could he beat goku?

Is Final Fantasy 6 worth playing on the PS1? I really don't want to shell out the money for a copy on the SNES for a game that I may or may not enjoy.

It's my first time playing Final Fantasy 6, and I was just wondering.

Yes it is fine. It is the same game, but with some load times and awkwardly shoehorned PS1 era CGI cutscenes. In any case, I don't really see what one would be missing exactly by playing this version.
>>
>>3241520
The only problem with these PSX ports of SNES games is the load times, which can be very annoying if you combine them with random battles. I would reccomend the SNES or patched GBA version in FFVI's case, but if you wouldn't mind load times the PSX version is a competent port.

There is literally nothing wrong with nearest-neighbor scaling. I'd rather have mammoth-sized pixels than a screen covered in Vaseline and shit. CRTs and CRT shaders are the worst kind of meme.

End up with a fucked aspect ratio or large black borders screen.

all retro gaming is anyway is just a futile attempt at rekindling some juvenile emotion you felt when you were a child in an attempt to bring some modicum of joy into your drab and depressed adult life

Why do we still use dinosaur consoles and computers 20-40 years after their manufacture? Is it nostalgia for the 90's? Or something else entirely?

Any luck emulating it? I hear Saturn emulation sucks.

Just get the XBLA/PSN port. It's pretty good.

I really like the game, but it's best with friends. If you like beat em ups you should enjoy it.
>>
It is decent, though would you need a controller to input its street-fighter-esque commands. I could never beat it single-player; I needed someone else (I'd play as Nicole and spam her magic while my friend was the bruiser).

I think it is a good game, but it's a little uneven: lots of fighting huge mobs over and over again by the end game, and huge walls of text that you have to sit through (one mid-game point is where the game decides to dump ALL of its plot into one scene that goes on forever).

There is an XBLA port that I don't know if you can access on an Xbone, but that is a good cheap alternative on consoles. Emulating it on the latest SSF should not be too hard; Saturn emulation has come a long way and I don't have trouble emulating 3D Saturn games like Panzer Dragoon Saga on my old laptop.
>>
>fantastic jazzy music
>mediocre fighting gameplay
>characters are either broken or shit
>the JRPG elements casualise it a bit
>plane system you either love or hate
>branching paths/alternate endings
>little slowdown despite lots of action
>6-player versus can get crazy fun

It's alright, but there are better beat 'em ups. The two Kamitani D&D games come to mind.

Since /vr/ shut down, poor anon has nothing else to do but play retro video games!

In fact, with the spare time he had he beat every single retro game in existence.

Anon: retro games! Feed me more retro games! I need retro games!

Thank you for playing Twisted Metal

Who here likes to play MUD's?

A MUD is sort of like a text-based virtual world where players can log in and interact with eachother via console commands. LambdaMOO is a very old one (established 1991) with an interesting history.

HellMOO is based on the Lambda core, and quite possibly the greatest game ever made.

What are some of your favorite MUD's, /vr/?

This game feels sloppy. I never sense I'm in full control.

I have to maneuver my Turtle with the D-Pad, and alternate which attacks I perform with the D-Pad, as well.
I can't get the hang of doing both at the same time, so I end up pulling off attacks I don't mean to execute.

Anyone else have this problem? Or did you get use to the controls the longer you played?

I came here to discuss a problem I'm having with a retro game. Perhaps to get tips from others on how to overcome what I may be doing wrong, and/or see if anyone else experienced the same issue.

My post is on topic and just fine.

Hey guys, i need a little help. I need to sell my ps2 and dreamcast collection, but i do not want to take a big loss on it. Can some of you guys check my collection and see what you think its worth? I know marvel vs capcom 2 is worth a little bit. All your help is appreciated.

the only games worth anything are the snk capcom fighters. I would sell those separately since you will most likely lose money selling a lot.

I'm looking to enhance my retro experiences. Playing with the keyboard hasn't been as comfy as I wished (playing games with keyboard + mouse is fine but two hands on the keyboard hurts my arms). Truth be told I never ever tried a controller on PC so I want to change that.

Any suggestions? What is /vr/ using?
I'm emulating NES, SNES, GB/C and GBA. Might end up emulating PS1 and PSP for their RPGs eventually too. Are those 3 bucks SNES controllers worth anything? http://www.gearbest.com/mice-keyboards/pp_261728.html I'm not exactly rich but I wouldn't mind putting more money into it considering how big my backlog is.

no

Considering what you're thinking of emulating, I'd suggest a genuine Sony PS controller (dual analog or later model) and any cheap PS to USB adapter. The brand doesn't really matter on the adapter. Even the cheapest piece of crap adapter should work just fine without needing any drivers. You just want to make sure that the controller is first party or a trusted brand.

If you're only going to emulate older Nintendo games, you can try to get a genuine Nintendo SNES controller and a cheap adapter, or you can try a generally trusted brand like Buffalo.

http://www.amazon.com/Buffalo-Classic-USB-Gamepad-PC/dp/B002B9XB0E

Many people here would also recommend a genuine Sega Saturn controller.

In general, avoid off-brand controllers. They're usually terrible quality with awful D-pads.

Neither. Super Game Boy 2.

The super gameboy is slightly sped up, so it's not hardware accurate. I'd rather use my Gamecube gameboy player or a GBA SP

Twin Snakes is much better than the original on the Playstation X. Anyone else think so?

We can discuss it here because ports and remakes of retro games aren't against the rules.
