I recall back in the day i was in love with pokemon yellow. As many teenagers in my day, both pokemon games and anime was hot, people from your class that you had almost nothing in common were talking to you about their pokemons, you could met people by simply starting a pokemon conversation if you saw they were playing the game.
But i don't recall ever been so hyped when the commercials for Gold/Silver were on TV. In this era of Skyrim/Minecraft, it may sound strange, but pokemon for me represented the ultimate rpg experience in which travelling and living adventures could match no rival.
Everyday, while i was having breakfast, before going to school, there was one pokemon Gold commercial and it made you feel like a big world full of life and events and adventures were awaitting you.
Nowdays you have sandbox games, which in some way they inherit the spirit of those RPGs, but at the same time they are so different. Do children nowdays experience the hype and awe that we got for Pokemon? I swear there is a lot to be learnt from the Pokemon saga, and seams like no game developer falls to see that.
wow, noone really? It is not enough retro for this board?
>>3251806
It's a slow board.
Anyway, there are still kids hype about Pokemon. You don't think plenty of them are jumping on that Pokemon Sun and Moon shit as soon as it hits?
>>3251806
What is it that you want? Everyone played fucking Pokemon, most of us still like it and there's an entire board on this site for it.
Quest of Ki
And her
Quest for Pie
Well, did she find the pie?
Let me guess, she had to touch the north wall, then the south, kill at least one of the Blue Knights, and then use the candle while facing the south wall to find it.
>>3251310
Scan never ever.
>>3251287
Is pronounced Quest for Pee.
Let's talk about some games for the greatest retro console out there.
I was thinking of buying a NES about a year ago but since then prices have literally doubled. People are trying to charge £50 upwards for the console only, no wires and chips/yellowing all over. Boxed consoles with wires are going for £150, three times the price I paid for one for my friend's birthday a while back. I honestly don't see any end to this.
Not calling you one, but why do retro posers always pick the Nes as the best thing ever?
>>3251559
It's a legitimate great console with lots of classics.
If you're gonna pose, do it right.
Is it cheating if you use Auto Charge and Rapid Fire?
No. They're things you find/get in the game.
Use whatever you want.
>>3250847
no but it means you suck
It's my first time playing X5, but I played X4 before. I'm in this stage now. This first part is the epitome of artificial difficulty, holy shit it's annoying.
Anyone still play runescape classic?
>>3250634
Playing it right now. I'm getting my mining up so I can get into the guild. I'm only one level away.
played it for an hour in 2004/5 on my first main.
>cant walk over fires
>one person per npc at a time
>inventory is also slot gear
>had to sleep in order to do anything
>>3250664
What's your username?
Dragon quest thread?
I mostly want some help with Orochi in Dragon warrior III for NES, but I think a thread for Dragon Quest/Warrior is a good idea too right?
I remember Orochi being a tough battle, but I don't remember what strategy I used.
I think my party was Hero, Sage, Warrior, Cleric, if that's of any help.
>>3250470
That's my team. I CAN put him to sleep, but not always. At least not reliably.
I wish there was more art of the DQ classes, like from 6 and 7. FF classes get tons of art but because in DQ you never see your characters in battle no one bothers to draw art.
What are some fun retro games that feature Australian or Australian-like characters?
Streets of Rage III has a kangaroo
One of the Super Bomberman games also have a kangaroo animal friend.
The Adventures of Bayou Billy
>>3250314
Fallout 1 & 2 feature present-day Australia + a Mad Max type character. Good fun and long too.

God bless RottKing/Pordontae for that video.
Just played navyseals. Before playing i expected something really bad. Holly shit! Really fun to play it. This mod great for its time actually. Counter Strike can be a different game but they fucked up.

Think my highscore was 12,000,000 something.
Try to beat that, bitch.
Anyone know how to compile Project 64 from source? The already-compiled installer comes with malware that you have to opt-out of, and I don't truely trust that you can *really* opt-out of it. This can be avoided by compiling Project 64 yourself. Unfortunately, I have zero experience compiling anything in Windows (only limited experience in Linux using make files).
i think 1.7 is better than 2 with our without the malware
Download VS Community edition, I suppose. Or maybe you need GCC. Either way, google compiling software on windows.

>>3250212
Just install it you sperg lord. You can opt out just fine.
Did limits and restrictions make old games better?
Not in every aspect, but often limitations meant perfecting your skills, doing your best even if there were limits, molding yourself to it.
That was the philosophy of many legendary game designers like Tokuro Fujiwara.
Some limits are better. For example, when fighting games made the transition to 3D graphics, they largely became much less animated and fun to look at. We'll never get another game with the variety of Darkstalkers or MvC2, even.
I got my cock stuck in a nintendo 64 cartridge what do i do ? Blow it ?
Opinions on Cory Arcangel's Super Mario Clouds?
I really think you should go away
I don't understand what you're asking.
i just know him as the guy who made that video of that guy who wrote a perl script to order pizzas from the command line
Started playing this recently and really enjoying it, but using epsxe for it is making my piss boil. What other emulator would ye guys recommend.
I don't recommend emulators, for I am not a fucking faggot.
>>3249414
Play the vastly superior PSP version. No load times, better menus, higher resolution, no slowdown and it adds in the saturn extras. It truly is the best version of the game. It's called Dracula X Chronicles
>>3249445
You'll need to unlock SOTN by finding the game icon in Dracula X as its not immediately available.
Anyone have any memories with getting those magnifiers/lights back in the day? It really did improve the gameboy experience quite a bit, as dated as it looks.
Was there ever such a thing for the Game Gear too? Everyone knows the TV tuner of course.
I remember feeling like the joystick was a big help for Link's Awakening, and or course playing in the dark while your parents were sleeping was a huge novelty back then, but in retrospect it was kind of a trashy peripheral. I soon moved on to just using the Worm Light exclusively.
>>3248968
How much did that behemoth weigh? Never used it back in the day.
>>3248968
yeah, the official one was the super/wide gear. and the super was fully shrouded, there were a few third party lens only ones. there was also the battery pack, and the power back.
