Have you introduced any cool retro games to your children or younger relatives, /vr/?
Been showing my kids these great games forever. My son loves and has demolished yoshis island, we also play games like Crash Bash, Worms, Bomberman and Tekken!
It's not retro but I found what I thought was going to be shitty rayman-branded shovelware, but instead turned out fun as fuck as far as a family game. It's called Rayman Arena on PS2, there are equal number racing and shooting stages but the racing stages are a fucking blast. All on foot runni g, jumping and fucking with the other racers and tons of clever short cuts. Me, my wife and 2 kids play this shit all night with a multi tap. You could probably find it for $0.12

I introduced my (now 11 year old) niece to the original Sonics and debatably retro original Animal Crossing.
>>3248691
I introduced the kid I babysit to them, he ended up becoming the kind of spoiled brat who begged his parents to get him every different revision of the OoT cart off eBay, and he hasn't even finished playing that game.
I created a monster
besides harvest moon, what are the comfiest psx games?
Final Fantasy 9

Intelligent qube
The eeriest yet most beautiful puzzler out there. Running around on some huge puzzling monolith floating in a seemingly endless sea of blackness while an orchestra swells and crashes in the background. I could play this game for eternity even though I suck and always die on level 5.
Also, Jumping Flash and Treasures of the Deep.
Saw this about a cyberpunk arcade in Japan that got its aesthetics from Kowloon Walled City: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_2KgQOqzBc
This got me thinking about other unique arcades that were different from the typical Chuck E Cheese and amusement park fare.. Anyone encounter arcades that deviated from the norm to share? Arcade general, too.
>>3248563
That's seriously impressive.
beautiful place. If that's what it takes to have a modern arcade, so be it
>>3248563
Quality post, OP. Richfag arcades are probably the best place to find custom themes.
Post good Western retro game developer studios ITT.

The final boss spooked me as a kid when I saw it. Gave me a Ghostbuster's Zuul vibe with those two dog/cat things shielding him.

How do I get good at HOMM3?
you are pretty good @ posting funny pictures
It has been ages since we had a HoMM3 thread.
Can you explain what gives you problems?
I for one recently played a scenario which I think is called Shadow Valley. I just couldn't make an army big enough to advance quickly to secure castles. So I'm looking foe some tips for that scenario?

What are your honest thoughts of Doom 64?
>>3246001
Better than Doom 1-2 and Final Doom.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udjDdj4bcE0
It's my favorite vanilla Doom game.
>>3246001
I prefer 1 and 2 but 64's still a fine game.I'm honestly surprised that the new game is implying 64 is canon, I had always figured it wouldn't be.
All your opponents are dead at the end.Even the cute ones. I hope you feel good about yourself.

What are your favorite or least favorite examples of localization?
Simon's Quest
Faxanadu
all of them because i'm not a fucking weeb or japanese

Least?
Persona 1. Blackfacing, whitewashing, but it nerfed the encounter rate at least.
Why didn't the N64 have a sound chip? The SNES had one.
>>3244840
You tell us, OP. What is wrong with N64 music? Because I certainly don't have a problem with it.
>What's Wrong With Music On the N64?
As far as I know, nothing.

Don't have any complaints.

Most N64 games do sound a bit generic.
Many melodies from the N64 are not as recognizable as in the 16-bit days
Do any of those cheap chinese genesis/mega drive flashcarts have save states?
I'd like to beat Sonic 1 and 2 on original hardware, but I'd like to play on my own time. Or am I going to get cucked and have to buy from that slav motherfucker?
Also general flashcart thread
The ever drive md doesn't have a save state feature whether to buy from krikkz out not. The mega everdrive has them but there's no cheap copy of that. Ask yourself if you really want save states though
>>3244041
Just use the level select codes.
Or just play them, they're hardly an hour long.
>>3244057
hmm... I'm not a save scummer but it's mostly that I'm not too down with the multihour marathon sessions any more. I'd like to be able to play a game for 30 min, put it down, and pick it up a week later where I left off like I can with retroarch autosave/autoload.
Hmm... I might just buy one of those cheap ebay copies and upgrade to a save state version later.
Anyone here own one of those cheap ebay everdrives? Any problems or good things to say about them?
I can give advice on NOT-RETROOOOO EZ Flash IV for GBA if anyone's wondering about them. Only flash cart I currently own.
How do I listen to raw video game music? Do I need to make a board and buy the synthesizer chips like pic related?
>>3243806
i think a flashcart and the actual system would work as well.
>>3243806
Compared to some of the shit that gets called autistic here this goes far above and beyond.
>>3243990
Yes what about it? Is this bad to you? Is it bad for someone to be dedicated to their hobby that they're willing to find a way to listen video game music without it being compressed in MP3 quality? Gee anon you sure are above me because I don't conform to your own social norms, you got me good.
In fact lets
Give this anon a big round of Applause for calling me "autistic"
I'm starting to get into the X series more. I have X1 for SNES, but I don't have the others.
Should I buy this? Is it faithful? Is there any problems with them? I heard that the PS2 version uses the PS1 version of X3, so I'm not sure if I should play that or play the SNES version on my Wii's SNES emulator.
Also, how is the non-X collection?
Didn't you post this last week?
The X Collection was programmed by Capcom in-house, so it is of excellent quality. The only minor issue is that for the PS1 games, the tracks fade out after playing for like 12 minutes (longer than you would feasibly stay on a stage) before starting over again. Which i mean, is utterly negligible.
The only real difference between the PS1 and SNES release of X3 is the changed soundtrack, so unless you are absolutely in love with the guitars for X3, it won't be a huge bother. While a few of the arrangements aren't the best, others are quite nice and on the whole it is a satisfactory job.
compare

vs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmErF0UdOIY
It's worth it to have the X collection over the individual games themselves.
The classic collection (PS2/GC) sucks. It was done by hacks who couldn't even emulate the SNES's Mode7. Something that fucking ZSNES figured out over a decade ago. Avoid it.
I don't know about the Legacy Collection, but it was made by the losers who did Capcom Classics Collection, who gave us blurry, filtered games with game-pausing achievement screens and other cases of fuckery.
I think the version of X6 on this doesn't has any voice acting.
