Has anyone here ever played the Win, Lose or Draw NES game based on the 80s game show? Picked it up at a flea market recently.

I just got this nifty box to hold my NES games. This is pretty much my complete collection, containing all the games I had as a kid, plus a handful that I've hunted down over the past years to fill in the gaps.

But I seem to have enough room for TWO more games in this box! Help me out, /vr/!

>inb4 Castlevania I/II/III
I was never really a fan, but if I ever come across I or III at a decent price, I can make room for them. After all, Super Team Games is pretty worthless.

/vr/ please tell me of a retro video game that you are particularly fond of, preferably one that is slightly niche so that I haven't played it before, probably on something like NES/SNES/Genesis etc.

Legacy of the Wizard on NES.

5 playable characters with different skills.
Each must be used to clear the game.
non-linear progression.
One of the earliest metroidvania style games.

It's fun. Find a map.

Holy shit. I never played the X series before and I was doing fine until THIS FUCKER came along. I don't even have all upgrades and I can take care of the doggie and Sigma no problem.
Now, here's my question:
Should I look up where the other upgrades are? I hate using guides, but I wanna finish this tonight (before I have to go into work) and I really don't know where I would have to look for some of them.
OR, should I just man up and try to beat this without the upgrades even if it means staying up late?

>>
Man the fuck up and beat it tonight. You'll feel great about yourself.
>>
I like playing megaman X by getting all the upgrades (that I can get without special weapons) and without beating any of the bosses. So I can just crush them in any order. Then I get the rest of the upgrades and beat the game.

Anyone use one of these?

Is it worth hunting one down nowadays for racing games?

I've heard that this is the best gamepad for fans of racing games, as it has better precision than a traditional analog controller due to the wider radius of rotation that you can twist it.

I tried one at a convention once. I thought it was cool but I wouldn't hunt one down. It's kind of fucked up. It's neat/cool but don't buy one for reseller prices before trying one out yourself.
>>
There are decent steering wheels for PS1 but at one early stage this was the case since its only competition was the Uniracer, which is also a pretty okay steering controller. The NegCon is a unique feeling especially on Wipeout.

Sup /vr. A guy near my house is selling his videogame collection and it's giving me this one for $30. Is it worth it? I honestly don't remember hearing about this game. The condition seems to be pretty good despite him owning the game since 2001, and both discs are included.

Can you also give me a short overview of the game? I love RPGs, and as long as it isn't like Final Fantasy, I'll be happy. I'm currently not on my house, so I can't do much research on my own because phones are terrible for that shit.

That is a decent price as it usually goes for around $40.

Yeah its fucking fantastic, you should pay him 60 dollars.

It's hot garbage. Anyone who recommends it is a fucking moron.
>>
Fucking moron here, as an RPG it mostly sucks gameplay-wise. It's linear and repetetive. But the story's great if you're willing to stick with it, though it's rather slow to start with. I don't think it picks up until 15 hours in and then you'll probably be overloaded with information. They should have just made a visual novel or something, as it's really the only worthwhile part of the game. It's worth playing if you can accept it on the points above, though I have no idea what an appropriate price is nowadays.

So, bought one of these at a retro game store, what do i need to know?
How do i make the most out of this badboy? (emulators online capabilites etc)
I know they're famous for breaking down, what can i do to prevent this?

Essential games? I'm trying to learn Japanese so imports are cool too.

Also do i need a program like Nero to mount the iso if i plan to burn a game to a CDR?

Breaking down? I've never had issues. Just don't be a fucking tool.

Download ISOburn essential Dreamcast tools for burning games, easier than using DiscJuggler or Nero.
>>

Shenmue I&II, Skies of Arcadia and Jet Set Radio are essential IMO

I'm looking for a solution that will allow me to run 8/16/32 bit console emulators on my living room TV. I'm trying to decide whether I should just buy a used Wii U and jailbreak it, or build a mini ITX media center PC. Which option gives me the most bang for my buck? The Wii U would be a bit cheaper, but the ITX PC would be a lot more flexible and powerful. What does /vr/ suggest?

Buy a backwards compatible Wii and install the Homebrew Channel. cheap and easy as fuck
>>
Get a HDMI and USB cables and hook up your computer to your living room. Costs less, offers more.
>>
>>3240662
I don't want to lug my big heavy desktop into the living room every time I feel like playing Zelda II or Tecmo Super Bowl. I'm looking for something that I can just leave in there that is reasonably priced.

Is this thing any good? I gave my bro a psp for emulation but snes emulation is shit on it. He wants it portable, so I figured I'd just get him this then.

New3DS is better.
>>
>>3239728

That thing is only portable in the barest sense, the cartridges stick way the fuck out the top, and there's fucking horrible blur on the screen. Maybe I'm thinking of something else. Not too much point in carrying around a "portable" system when you still need to carry around a stack of fuckhuge cartridges.

If you're decently good with computers, pick up a new3ds (in box, not used) and head over to >>>/vg/hbg . My personal favorite console is the japanese or australian black LL (non-XL), but if you're a burger the black XL is the easiest one to come by.

New-in-box consoles currently on the shelves are guaranteed to be exploitable. Used ones are iffy because normies auto-update to the latest firmwares and the very latest one is not hackable (yet??)

You will need a microSD of at least 8 GiB size (32, 64 GiB strongly recommended), a small phillips-head screwdriver, and at least 5 hours for your first-time setup.

I can personally vouch that the n3ds plays basically all the games I want to play at full speed.

There are also some android-based made by GPD and some other company, but I can't vouch for them personally.
>>
>>3240929

He has an N3DS, but better yet I even read there's a way to inject roms into existing bought VC games. Though I imagine the results will vary from game to game since they are proprietary emulators. I'm absolutely certain he's at 11.0 as well for fucks sake.

Riddle me this /retro/,

Why are retro games so expensive?

All the Japanese versions of the same game are super cheap. I speak French and often buy the French versions because they are much cheaper. Why are the English versions games so expensive?

I'm beginning to think it would be economical to learn Japanese at this point.
37 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Not as many coalitionist collectors want NTSC J games.

Most games are the same prices. At least the good games. For example Legend of Zelda on NES and the famicom rerelease are the same price.
>>
Because the majority of the world can read english, but not japanese, and because PAL sucks.

Learning japanese is a good idea, but unless you become super serious with it, don't expect to start playing japanese adventure game in a few years.

I didn't grow up when it was released, but when I look at it, it looks just like an other Atari game.

A really simply idea with a simple design since the console didn't allow for much more.

What was so much worse about this game than the rest of the Atari library?

>it looks just like an other Atari game.
That's exactly why
>>
>In the second half of 1982 the number of cartridges grew from 100 in June to more than 400 in December. Experts predicted a glut in 1983, with 10% of games producing 75% of sales. BYTE stated in December that "in 1982 few games broke new ground in either design or format ... If the public really likes an idea, it is milked for all it's worth, and numerous clones of a different color soon crowd the shelves. That is, until the public stops buying or something better comes along. Companies who believe that microcomputer games are the hula hoop of the 1980s only want to play Quick Profit."
>>
>>3237801
Top selling does not mean good. With shit games like pacman and ET coming out people didnt want to fuck with consoles anymore. In fact having high sales probably made it worse. Everyone gets all hype and buys the game only to find out they just paid good money for overhyped garbage.

I love Ghost & Goblins and the sequels. BUTThis was always my favorite platformer. It also had a perfect port to the MegaDrive/Genesis.

Dark, imaginative, many types of enemy, not repetitive and the soundtrack is not only awesome but it also fits the mood of the level.

So what were the Strider-like games out there?
