Post the best of the best tracks that make the sound chips of classic hardware squeal. I'm avoiding obvious picks like DKC because I wanna hear the best soundtracks I may have missed.

Doesn't it play when you do the kill screen move on the grave yard stage?
When was the last time you played a game for the first time and were just blown away, or really enjoyed little details? Remember the first time you played Pokemon and instead of knowing all 151, you were entering this world full of weird creatures? Remember how walking through the tall grass was exciting instead of tedious, because you could see something you'd never seen before?
ITT: We talk about games that are absolutely full of surprises and wonder, and full of heart. Games that feel big and mysterious and exciting. Basically, talk about a game you can remember your first time playing, and how much of a blast it was. Try to use spoiler text when discussing things that other people may also appreciate being surprised by, and let's all share games and maybe discover some we haven't played before.
I personally loved Secret of Evermore, which is basically Secret of Mana, made in America, with a different setting. It's like no other game I've played, and admittedly far from perfect, but I personally get pulled into its world, love the "boy and his dog" motif, love the characters and the silly little moments like when youopen a jar, pull out what looks like a heart from Zelda or something, and then put it back because you have no use for a heart, and just generally think it's a game everyone who likes ARPGs should play at least once.

Metal Max Returns, just some months ago.
Things like finding a tank buried in a cave on the beach, decorating your house or just discovering and downloading new programs for your pre-fallout pipboy.
For me it was E.V.O
Many of these older RPGs are interesting to play, and not everyone played these back in the day because they weren't the most common or cheaper games (and continue to be scarce and expensive today).
I can see how some people would get frustrated by the controls and some of the boss fights. I personally enjoyed the controls and design, it's a 2D action RPG and I enjoy these kind of games. Only problem I had was getting lost on the maze levels (the cloud and the alien ship), but other than that, wonderful game, enjoyed every bit of it and would play again.
Eventually I'm going to play the original PC-88 prequel, which is I think a traditional RPG.
Im trying to find a game i cant remember the name.
Here is what i remember about it.
- old pc game, in period around 1995-2005
- 3D, third person, rpg
- u start as some sort of a knight and first enemys are skeletons with swords and axes
- u can loot enemys and pick their equipment
- later in game you can use magic
- the game icon had sword and axe ( simmilar to picture )
I apologise if its not retro game by your standard.
>>3253127
Severance? It's not technically retro but it's highly regarded here as sort of a missing link between King's Field/Shadow Tower and Demon's Souls
>>3253170
Unfortunetly its not the game im trying to find.
(but this one also looks worth playing)
- The game im searching looks simmilar, but graphic is older then this.

Uhhhh Deathtrap Dungeon?
Why does such a short game need two discs?
>>3253071
Lot's of dialogues really.
>>3253071
Short answer: sound streams take space.
Long answer: you can literally play the game on one disc with a cheat code, if you don't care about giving up some cutscenes and codec calls (they're there but text only).
>>3253071
>short game
did u skip all the dialogues and clips?
What if Sonic 4 came out in 1995-1996?
I don't think many people would've played it.
>>3252894
Yeah, probably not. But it would be great.
>>3252894
I disagree - Sonic was a completely different franchise in the mid to late 90s. If the Saturn had been given a true Sonic sequel it might have had a leg to stand on in the Western market, where Sonic games have traditionally and consistently performed well
What the fuck was this walls problem?
Mexico didn't pay for it
>>3252658
Maybe they had plans to do cutscenes, and Abobo was gonna come down on the lift, but he kept walking off and looking like a giant idiot?
But that doesn't explain why the player can go up it
Or maybe he was supposed to climb it after beating him, which doesn't really make sense
My god this is perplexing
Super Mario World for SNES is overrated. The graphics aren't just simplistic - they are shit. Often it's just blue skies with clouds and a platform. Not even much parallax. Look at the backgrounds in Sonic. Green Hill Zone. God there is so much going on. Parallax layers, great animated water ... Stuff is busy and fun to look at. Mario looks like done by a child. Also his skin colour looks like awkward sunburn. Shitty shading. Then you have a bush background which is also just a pattern that loops forever. The backgrounds in Mario are lazy and dull. The engine is a personal taste but Mario is always sliding like if there was bukake on the platforms even when it isn't ice. The acceleration and slowing down when running is just annoying too.
1) I am dead serious and not trolling 2) I am open for everything so you can still convince me
>>3252182
This is your opinion, and while you're entitled to it it in fact does not make it right or wrong.
Hmmm, fresh new pasta!
Then why is SMW the epicenter of Mario romhacking?
Why isn't Sonic more popular within the romhack scene?
Reminder that SMW is one of the 2D games with best physics.

Mega Man 4 on NES is my favorite
Anyone recognize this? I found it at the bottom of a box in my basement. It doesn't fit Genesis, snes, nes or n64 but those are the only cart systems I owned
>>3250716
Undercarriage of the Genesis 2 I think , plug for the sega cd
>>3250736
Can confirm. It's the dust cover to be exact.
Does anyone remember this old game?
>>3249381
I played the demo and I remember that I liked it, but I was bummed at the time that you couldn't kill the enemies as far as I remember, just knock them out. Overall, seemed fun though.
Combat was godawful but the platforming was surprisingly well done for its age and for being more or less the first game of its kind.
Also, full body awareness in 1997 - holy fuck.
I have yet to get past the first level in this. The whole thing is basically just a test of memorization.
Still good tho
Recommend me a game to emulate on my phone I don't have an external controller or anything. I like RPGs
Visual novels (not retro, but Ace Attorney series and 999 on NDS are perfect for the go)
WarioWare Twisted (MyBoy has gyroscope support)
Advance Wars series
Fire and Ice on NES

SquareEnix titles have good ports.
FF games age good so is chrono.
I'm sure there are more of their titles.
Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger. Turn based stuff.
Choose.

or Super Ghouls N Ghosts
TBQHF
>Ghost N Goblins original is best, original and fun. incomparable to the others as there was no other platformer like it at the time.
>Super Ghouls N Ghosts is 2nd, colorful, quick loads more enemies and great soundtrack
>Ghouls N Ghosts is a close 3rd, raw and fucking awesome
>>3248783
the double jumping ruined super GnG made it too easy
They are all awesome. Never got to play the arcade versions unfortunately. I like the genesis and SNES versions the most overall. I wonder why they changed the name to Ghosts N Goblins for the NES?
anyone have good memories of this game?

i liked splatterhouse 2 when i was 19
still preffer it to splatterhouse 3
i dont like walking up and down (on the vertical axis)
Hell yeah! Saw it in an arcade as a little kid. Blew my mind.
Did the Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx-16 bring about the decline of console expansions? Did the 64DD put the nail in the coffin? Or was it thePS2 HDD? Was the 3DO MPEG module the best one? What about 3rd party units like the NES Aladdin?
It was the HD-DVD drive for the 360.
>>3244650
since this is 4chan, im pretty sure cucks did it.
>>3244650
At least they were mass-produced.
