So it's a Tuesday, first time to organize and travel alone, and I'm just about ready to book my tickets for an Eastern Europe tour this July-October, and I just remembered: travel insurance.

Do you buy travel insurance, anon?
What's a good site?
How much would usually spend for this?
Do you buy this along with the plane ticket from the airline?

(Sorry if this is a frequent question, couldn't find it in the sticky)

Just go to a website that lets you compare what is out there, and then decide if you want to buy it from a company like expedia when you book, get a rider on your medical insurance, or look into your credit card protections.

What do you need insurance for? Add it up if you need it for medical care, or emergency interruption or both, or loss of gear and replacement value for luggage, that kind of thing. I always get it when taking a cruise because you really do get stranded with a huge bill if they put you off the ship in a crappy port with high airfare, or if you get airlifted. Most of the time, I use the coverage of my credit card outside of that, which increases my luggage replacement. For me, buying a last minute airfare is a gamble my savings can cover, as are high medical copays, but at least my plan covers me overseas after I pay upfront. If that wouldn't work for you, get insurance so your life isn't ruined in a flash.

It's not brought up that often here, really, but it's always the same outcome. Most people with some savings find these important points, that I made, and would insist you should have some protections where they matter, as I state. Don't listen to any kids who tell you to go without or that odds are always going to be in your favor. Just be smart.

so i am going to Barcelona for 9 months i have been to Spain before but never Barcelona, i am hispanic so i speak Spanish i know that Catalan is good to know. but what else should i know about apartments. should i bring my bike? i hear it is bike friendly is it worth lugging it
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Yes it's bike friendly. Bring one if you feel like it.

Riding and walking are far more common than driving, at least within towns.

And get used to Catalan speech in general.
They don't seem to like the south even though I love Andalusia.
>>
I live in barcelona and I use my bike almost every day to move arround. The city is pretty bike friendly and is not that big so you can go almost anywhere walking or by bike. I recommend you to bring yours, or get one here.
And as long as you speak spanish, you should have no problem, a lot of people speak catalan everyday but anyone will not have a problem speaking spanish.
I hope you have fun here in Barcelona anon!

So I was just invited to go on a trip to Scotland with a girl I'm friends with.
I'm a guy and i find her attractive. She's pretty cool, but I've never traveled with just one other person before. It's always been groups or by myself.

What's it like to travel alone with a girl? Does it suck? Will my chances of sleeping with her be high? Are my chances of being cucked high?

I've been to Scotland before, which is why she invited me.

I need your advice /trv/

Don't think to much, just go for it.

Go and have fun, if the opportunity to bump uglies comes up take it but just enjoy the trip.

Also don't sleep with other people.

What part of Scotland?
>>
People are different, mate. If you go with sex on the brain it will ruin the trip. If she wanted to bang you she wouldn't travel to another country to do it. She could do that at home.

Where in Scotland?

I'm trying to get from Vancouver to the Bahamas as cheaply as possible, but it's proving to be a challenge under $500. I'm thinking there must be some type of boat service from Cuba or Florida that would take people cheap, but I haven't found one. Anyone have experience getting there?

You can get a ferry in Miami or Ft Lauderdale for less than $100 one way.

The flight from Vancouver to Nassau is around $500, less depending when you want to go.

I need some advice /trv/. I'd like to go to Yosemite National Park with my girlfriend. I happen to also be a girl. Is there anywhere cheapest and private but also lgbt+ friendly?

>Camping?
Cheap and private dont normally go together. All of the hotels are really expensive and/or pretty low quality. Maybe you can find something on airbnb. It wont be cheap and will probably be pretty far from the park. Its a pretty long drive to the park on winding mountain roads.
>>
>>1088639
Check out Yosemite bug. It's 30-45 minute drive to the park. It has cabins with heaters and bathrooms, tent camping, or a co Ed hostel. Really good food (with vegetarian and vegan options) and pretty lgbt and alternative lifestyle friendly. Nice hanging out area with fire, board games and booze. The whole area is lgbt friendly, so don't worry about that while you're here.

60K miles on AA will take you to Europe and back.

Knowing nothing about you, I say fly to Glasgow, and tour the west coast of Scotland by train, bus, and ferry.

Parque Warner Madrid, the 2nd-best amusement park in Spain, is located in the area. Several big roller coasters and what not. Parque de Atracciones de Madrid is another big one in town, but its rides are not as big (though, tickets will probably be cheaper).

Hello /trv/

I'm going to spend ~2 months in Buenos Aires for an internship and I'm looking for housing. What is the best option (easy to find, cheap, etc)?
What are the prices like?
I would be looking for either a room in a shared appartment, a homestay, a studio, depending on what the costs are.

Other infos about the city are also welcome

Trying to plan a trip to Australia and came upon a lot of comparisons between Melbourne and Sydney with Sydney being the more popular one. Anyone able to refute this, even with a different location and help me out?

>inb4 angry Australians arguing that their city is better

I found that Sydney seems to be more popular the older you get, both my parents and grandparents have been to Australia too, my grandparents much preferred Sydney, my parents preferred Melbourne by a little bit, and i personally liked Melbourne way, way more.

Sydney has the big sights, Harbor bridge, Opera House, that big tower thing, close surf beaches, monorail, the harbour ect. I found what Sydney was missing was a vibe, it was very business orientated, the city center (around the bridge and the opera house) was pretty bland, public transport pretty shit, choices of hotels very expensive and personally beyond the big attractions there wasn't that much to do. I think thats why older people like it more, they just want to see nice things and dont care so much about the rest of it and they have the money to pay for what they want.

While Melbourne has less of the big sights, i found there was way more to explore, the number of misc alleys and tiny malls was great, very interesting food and coffee culture, pretty good public transport (one thing that bugged me about sydney was the amount of buses in the city center). Also i found the nightlife in Melbourne to be way better, not sure why particularly, but venues seemed better and there was no shitty lockout laws. Also as a Sailor, Melbourne bay actually is great for sailing because its pretty big but the sea conditions are nothing like open water that you get beyond sydney harbour.

My review is probably shit, i expect someone to give a better summary, but personally, i liked Melbourne better because i thought although it lacked the big sights, it actually had way more to see and do and wasn't just another big business city.
>>
>>1088509
How was the weather in Melbourne during your stay?
>>
>>1088509
I studied abroad in Melbourne and I second this post, anon nailed it.

Melbourne has so many cool restaurants, suburbs, sights etc. not quite as big ticket or recognizable as Sydney but I liked it way better there.

Sydney is fine too if you decide, it's not shit that's just what I recommend.

Where to go?

Zurich/Appenzell/Zermatt/Lucerne/Bern

Interlaken/Lauterbrunnen/Grindelwald/Wengen/Murren/Gimmelwald

Geneva/Lausanne/Gruyere

After a lazy amount of research I've come up with these three areas.

Any opinions or suggestions?
I know most people will probably suggest skipping Zurich and/or Geneva, but they are conveniently located and accesss into the country by plane and international rail.

can't really say much about the rest of switzerland but i was in the wallis, sion multiple times, which is not far away from lausanne and the area is quite nice, summer is hot and due to that theres a lot of whine growing and of course beautiful scenery of the alps
sion has a rail station of course but its not a big city all around

Swiss here, it completely depends on what you want to do, see and your budget.

Switzerland is expensive but most destinations you listed are super touristy and expensive^10.

Flying first class tomorrow, I know the drinks are free but I am a heavy drinker. Is there a limit to how much FA can give you?

Varies at least a bit by airline. But the general rule is that they will cut you off if you're noticeably drunk, or if there's any risk you will become disruptive. But it's pretty rare in first. I had a very nice flight attendant apologize for not being able to leave me with the bottle once, but she came back to give me at least five or six cocktails before I passed out.
>>
>>1088402
Depends on the airline.

Thai airways gave me glasses full of whisky, no ice, until I could barely walk. Korean air actually cut me off after 2 beers and told me "I think you are getting too drunk, sir". I think it has everything to do with the culture of the country the airline is based out of.

Sometimes you can bring your duty free liquor right on board. If so, just do that. Saves you and the flight attendant the trouble, and surely 750ml of hard liquor is enough for you, no?

Sup /adv/, I'm thinking of moving to Korea because it would be interesting to do, and the people seem great. I do music production as a living, so I'm basically at my computer at home all day, it gets boring so I want to find new, interesting things.

The language barrier is not a problem, I was already learning Korean and Hangul so that's ok.

But after reading a bit in it, it seems that houses/apartments are fucking expensive in Korea, especially in Seoul, where I'd like to go. I'd rather not live in some shitty place, would it be a good idea?

I oopsed /adv/ in the OP, I mean ofc /trv/
>>
I'm really interested -- why do so many people on /trv/ (unfortunately, you're hardly the only one) think that they can just pack their bags and move to any country they feel like? If you're looking to legally emigrate your choices are (a) be rich, (b) have a legitimate job offer with a company willing to sponsor you for a visa, or (c) marry a local. That's pretty much it.
>>
>>1088371
This still is 4chan dude, the haven of weeabos who see chinks as goddesses, that think life in Asia is just like in anime and porn because there is the holy land.

To OP, would it be a good idea? Who knows dude. If you have a job and can get a permanent visa, it could be good. It could be hell. You could arrive there and lose your job in one month and be left all alone there. Or you could hit big, find a nice girl, get married and have a lovely life.
Just check the legalities of it and give it a shot. Worst case scenario you'll be arrested and tortured for the rest of your life.
