Been on some group tours and the girls were a nightmare. Complaining about everything, crying pretty much every day.
Men travel to experience the world, women do it so they can post about it on social media.

*Note about the JR Rail Pass*
Many people ask about whether or not the JR Rail Pass is worth it. It depends on your itinerary.
Plug your itinerary into Hyperdia to determine ticket costs, then compare to the below JR Pass options:
>7 day Pass: 29,110¥
>14 day Pass: 46,390¥
>21 day Pass: 59,350¥
Please check the /trv/ sticky before asking questions. It's filled with links to great resources, many of them specific to Japan travel.

I'm part of a minority group Trump has threatened and I'm considering my options just in case I need to leave.
What are the best countries for someone from the US to move to?
When I say "best", I mean that they have some of these factors:
+There are a large amount of citizens there who either speak English or understand English.
+The country isn't hostile towards immigrants, minorities and alternative lifestyles. The country allows many of the same freedoms an American would be used to.
+The country is easy to go to. There is minimal paperwork one needs to enter and stay in the country as an American.
+The country has demand for English/American workers. My degrees would easily transfer. The cost of living is friendly to the American dollar. The quality of living is similar to what lower middle class American would be used to.
I appreciate the help.
>believing anything said during the primaries
you realize everyone is just pandering to the extremists to win their party, then they'll spend the entire presidential election backpedaling to the middle of the road.
If you're a legal American, there's no group you could be a part of that would be threatened by a Trump presidency unless you were a Muslim extremist.
I'm not interested in talking about politics.
I simply want to know the answer to my question if you feel like answering.
I have free time until september and want to use it to travel around Europe. Never travelled alone before and pretty much every destination I look at seems amazing to me so I need some help deciding. Just tell me where you had the best time in Europe, thanks in advance!
Also, I plan on making several short trips and returning home (Germany) inbetween instead of one long journey, are there any disadvantages?
This way I could go by train to big cities and use a car to explore nature/more remote areas.
any help very much appreciated!

I hear they have killer saunas.
I may be traveling to Japan sometime this year and will be staying with a cute girl who, I think, has dropped some hints at being interested in a romantic relationship. I read the sticky, but what are some cute date kind of places to go to? I for sure want to see the Kiyosumi garden since I like landscapes and nature type things. She also mentioned going to an onsen with me. I hope to meet her family in Miyazaki, but I'm not sure if we'll travel much since she lives in Tokyo and I don't want to make her feel obligated to spend travel money. Anyway, what would be some nice places to go with her? I don't know if there's any trendy places I should know of.

It astounds me that so few people that I've met have actually seen the northern lights. Everyone I ask, be it in my university, old retired people who have traveled, or online, says they haven't experienced this light show.
How many people in /trv/ have actually seen a full show of northern lights? When and where did you see it? Was it worth it?
I'm particularly interested in Canada, has anyone from Canada seen these?
I was having dinner over at a work colleagues place eating steamed hams. He claimed aurora borealis was in his kitchen but refused to let me see it.
Flights to Iceland are getting pretty cheap. Thinking of take a short trip over there next winter and trying to catch a glimpse of them. It's just luck of the draw though, if they are going to be happening when you're there and if there will be no cloud cover.
My parents tell I've seen before when they took me to Alaska when I was 3.
i want to visit north of Russia to see it in future. It's gonna be cheap
Yo yo guys, I about to head off to SE Asia for 6 months and I'm in need of a decent smartphone to last me.
I'm in the market for something that has decent battery life and takes fairly nice photos.
I've narrowed my list down to a bunch of phones, wanted to see if anyone had some tips or personal preference of phone while backpacking
- Xiaomi mi 4i
- HTC One M7
- iPhone 5S
- Huawei P8 Lite
- OnePlus 1
- OnePlus X
- OnePlus 2
I don't know how you managed to list every single bad phone that's out there for the requirements you have, but you did it, op!
>Galaxy S6
Oh because I have a budget of under $350
I'd also check out the OnePlus before you say its a bad phone :P

Can someone explain travel and tourist scams to me?
I get a lot of them like pickpockets and whatnot, but the ones where they try to get you to buy something or demand payment for a service. What's stopping me from saying "no, fuck you"? Are they gonna fight and rob me on the street? Cry to the police? I don't understand why I'd pay someone for shoving flowers in my hands instead of trying to hand them back or failing that, dropping them and walking away?
>>1080163
I've been kinda scammed, and it was physical intimidation that got me (he had a rifle). But I imagine a lot of times it's just trying to make you feel like you're in the wrong, or you'll get in trouble I'd you don't go along. I imagine plenty if people are so afraid of conflict or drawing attention they just go along if it's not a lot of money.
Here's an infographic that gets posted a lot. Won't let me post the image and I don't feel like monkeying with it.

Oh, more mental than physical basically.
Hi. I'm Dutch myself, so I this might be a weird question. But I have some friends from abroad coming over and I want your opinions on places (preferably cities) to take them that aren't Amsterdam. I can thing of a few, but I want to hear a it from non-Dutch tourist's perspective. Where did you go and what did or didn't you like.
I have a car, so everything is in driving distance.
>>1081394
I guess it's sort of a tourist trap, but I found Giethoorn pretty wonderful. I also had a good time doing some medium long-distance bike trips along the coast, and I'm not even a serious cyclist (my wife is, which is why we did it... helps that your country has no discernible hills).
>>1081394
Of the cities I visited in the Netherlands, I liked Den Haag the best. In general the area felt a lot less hectic than other areas like Rotterdam or Amsterdam and the atmosphere in general was more welcoming.
Den Haag has the Mauritshuis and the Escher museum which I particularly enjoyed, and also to the north past Vredespaleis is Scheveningen where you can check out the beaches of the North Sea among other things.

avoid Maastricht, it's a shithole

What's the most ambitious undertaking anyone on /trv/ has ever done? Are there any real adventurers here?
Of the top of my head I can think of that anon who biked from Egypt to Ethiopia or somewhere, and then there's Africabro. Any other poster boys for NG in our ranks?
I feel like anyone who is willing to exit their comfort zone and travel for more than a month is worthy to be called an adventurer. Because once you get back home, you'll find so few that are like you if any.
The guy from /b/ who drove a jeep from France to Afghanistan was pretty wild.

I think Arab cultures are really cool and I got invited to Qatar by this guy I know who lives there. He said he'd pay for everything (I'll chip in too). I think he's in the military because he occasionally posts pictures in soldiers garb on social media. It's not something I ask too much about. I trust him and he's very nice. He also has exotic pets too, which is cool. And he wears the white thawb a lot. I guess there's lots of attraction going on, haha.
I just want to know if I should do it or not. I'm Czech, but I live in the England. I'm 20, he's 26.
Not sure if troll or not but I'll bite.
Qatar is safe for a woman so long as you dress modestly. You don't have to wear the abaya, but you have to dress modestly. No short skirts, etc. It's a peaceful, stable country with a large expat population and Islamic law is strict. Guys aren't going to try shit with you.
As to the guy you've met, clearly he wants and expects sex from you, so as long as you understand that, and you're willing to accept the risks of meeting a stranger--that's on you. Any potential danger will come from this individual, not from Qatar at large.
>>1079865
You sound like a gold digger, and you are literally going to get crucified if you have sex with him in Qatar.
>>1079865
I am male and stayed in Qatar for 2 months. You'll be far safer from petty crime than in England or the Czech Republic, and Qatar doesn't really have any cultural problems with solo female travelers. You WILL have to watch what you wear though, no shoulders, cleavage, legs can be shown.
If there's
>a lot of attraction going on
hooking up with a Qatari will not get you stoned, but play it safe and act completely platonic in public unless otherwise cued
While Qatar is probably the safest middle eastern country to travel to, it is also one of the most dull. But it sounds like you know one of the rich ones so you will probably have things to do
