Sort of. At my store, people really don't like thinking outside of the box. Everyone picks an established faction in the lore and paints them as such. Anyone who comes up with their own thing, everyone rolls their eyes and gets annoyed with any decisions.

They get pretty upset with me for mixing and matching regiment tags in 8th edition for Guard. It's all my army, but I like different buffs for different units.

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Masterwork Bastard Sword" bullshit that's going on in the d20 system right now. Katanas deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine katana in Japan for 2,400,000 Yen (that's about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid steel with my katana.

Japanese smiths spend years working on a single katana and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest blades known to mankind.

Katanas are thrice as sharp as European swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a longsword can cut through, a katana can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a katana could easily bisect a knight wearing full plate with a simple vertical slash.

Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Japan? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Samurai and their katanas of destruction. Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the men with the katanas first because their killing power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Katanas are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the d20 system. Here is the stat block I propose for Katanas:

(One-Handed Exotic Weapon)
1d12 Damage
19-20 x4 Crit
+2 to hit and damage
Counts as Masterwork

(Two-Handed Exotic Weapon)
2d10 Damage
17-20 x4 Crit
+5 to hit and damage
Counts as Masterwork

Now that seems a lot more representative of the cutting power of Katanas in real life, don't you think?

tl;dr = Katanas need to do more damage in d20, see my new stat block.

You are now a Perpetual.

Assuming you didn't do anything to change things, the future would follow along the 40k route: Age of Technology, Age of Strife, Great Crusade, Horus Heresy, all that stuff is to follow. Everything you know about the lore is, barring interference on your part, assured to happen.

Getting doubles in your post means you're a psyker, delta level. Getting triples means you're a blank.

What would you do with your newfound power and knowledge?

Hey, /tg/, lend me some brain power here.

I'm preparing for a Horror/Espionage campaign in GURPS. The PCs are operatives of a benevolent conspiracy out to prevent the end times by collecting artefacts of black magic and keeping them out of the hands of evil people (two other rival conspiracies are hunting for them, but their motives for wanting the artefacts are hidden from the players). The Bricks of Maru-Du article from Pyramid #3/5 has the full details on the artefacts.

I need ideas for missions - each artefact can be used for one type of black magic power, the PCs have to find it and exflitrate, rival agents are after it also.

What have you got?

Do you know of any RPGs which have tackled that subject of race/racism (as opposed to ignoring it, which if we're honest is probably the only way to do right by people in this industry) in a way that wasn't either completely one-sided, oversimplistic or all-around insulting? (this goes to both extremes of the "we've made all the iconics Sino-Hispanics, what do you mean the game takes place in Iron Age Ireland?"/"GAS ALL JEWS" scale)

Degenesis.

It's a post-apocalypses setting in which Europe was destroyed by asteroids, while Africa got of relatively unscathed.
500 years later Africa is the imperialistic superpower that comes to Europe to steal it's riches and exploit it's people.
It's an interesting spin on history and based on the idea that all people are equally awful.

I think you can sorta do both in Strike!. DitV style confrontations for most stuff, 4e like combat for important battles.

How post-apocalyptic are we talking here?
>The Apocalypse was a few years ago and most survivors are barely crawling out of the rubble
>The Apocalypse was a decade or more ago; human survivors are banding together into tribes
>The Apocalypse was a century ago; the older generation remember their grandparents telling the story of the Fall,
>The Apocalypse was centuries ago. There are tales of how men use to live in the sky and that the ruins were once great cities. A few books and scholars know the truth
>>
Apocalypse was a few years ago, 5-8 to be more specific, society is functioning on a small almost tribal level.
>>
dunno how mystical you want your world to be, but here's a few ideas i'm stealing from books.

>rumors swirl about a village where the water is clean, and the land has become fertile again. Some say a local can make plants bloom. Meanwhile, bandits gather, planning to raid the crops and kidnap the villager. (You decide whether or not the villager is a charlatan).

>The oldest man in a village all has a twisted mask of scabs, scars from the apocalypse. A few locals from younger generations have disappeared while out fishing/gathering.
>Investigating reveals the man, withdrawn from society, has had his scabs crack and fall off. Beneath, his human face has taken on reptilian features. He flees, and the bodies can be found stored in a crawlspace dug out underneath his hovel.

>A woman with a serious drug addiction begs the party to help find her next fix. The only thing she can promise as a reward is a small package that contains thermite, which she acquired but has no use for.

>A scientist uploaded his consciousness to an AI before the apocalypse, with the intent that he'd be able to share useful knowledge to whoever came after. Unfortunately, his AI has all the emotions he had, and just wants to die now that his family is gone and he's trapped in a box.

>There's a horde of slavering wild dogs roaming the countryside. Occasionally, they drag a live child from one of the villages. The remains are never found. Investigation reveals that one of the dogs is a she-wolf with human-like intelligence, and is kidnapping children to raise them as its own so it has some companionship.

Kinda spinballing, but maybe it'll get you started? Might be too far side.

Tyranids only win through sheer numbers. If it was a Zerg swarm vs a tyranid tendril on a planet, Zerg would win easily
>faster adaptation
>creep means tyranids will be found as soon as they set foot on it
>Kerrigan OP as fuck
>actually hold the planet and fortify it instead of just eating everything
>ultralisks are way bigger than biotitans and can be spawned rather quickly
>better overall troops
>reproduce faster
>don't need biomass, only minerals

40kids will throw a shit fit because they can't handle anyone being able to beat their Mary Sue setting, but objectively Zerg>Tyranids in all but numbers.

I maintain that any one Zerg is more dangerous than its Tyrannid equivalent, largely due to their self-mutating and self-healing capabilities. But there are just so many more Tyrannids that the Zerg...both are species that rely on overwhelming numbers, and the Tyrannid's unit count is just larger. Not to mention that they have much BIGGER units at their disposal than the Zerg.

Having said that, the video your screencap is from is probably the best possible depiction for what a Tyrannid invasion looks like. And the music is perfect.

I'm putting together a table for what you might see when you travel to a far realm equivalent and haven't been able to find anything existing for it - any ideas or contributions welcome. They should have a single theme, gimmick or similar, and include a way to get away from there again (most likely a d100 table and 100 means they go home again). It can be dangerous but shouldn't be insta-death, otherwise anything goes.

>A bare room, 10 by 10 by 10 feet, the walls are pure white with thin lines all over, bright enough that it hurts to look around. Touching the wall causes an eye to open underneath it, and poking an eye transports you to another plane.
>A vast expanse of darkness, you appear standing in the middle of nowhere. Anything you think about becomes reality as with the wish spell, but you cannot take anything with you created by this spell when you leave.
>You appear to be standing at the bottom of a well, luminescent flakes of light falling like leaves to light up the place slightly. You have no troubles breathing, swimming up there is nothing but an endless tube of water, and drinking all the water, which anyone can do as long as they try, transports you to another plane.
>You appear on a large, green surface with an enormous entity visible in the distance. After a few seconds, it starts moving, reaching out a hand as large as a house to grab something besides you and bring it to his mouth. It repeats until it finishes its meal, and being eaten transports you to another plane.
>You appear on a thin bridge from emptiness to some kind of city, alive and buzzing with lights and fractal patterns making up the "buildings". Once you get off the bridge the streets are filled with tiny holes and it's easy to slip in, which transports you to a different plane.

>You appear in a giant vault, filled with heaps of holy symbols, fetishes, charms, talismans and so forth. Holding a symbol and performing the proper prayer rite of that god/cult/entity/whatever transports you to another plane. There are also some that are not from the mundane world, and using them may attract attention from other entities. The owner of the vault is taking a pee break and will be back in 15 years if anyone wants to wait.
>You appear in a very normal place, with alien but reasonable plants, people and landscape features. However, you see this as though looking through a kaleidoscope and it's hard to make anything out. Saying "duude" transports you to another plane (placeholder, idk what to do with it).
>You appear in a long, uneven corridor. Looking up, the walls form tall statues of people of all different kinds of races of the world. Walking along it, the statues grow increasingly inhuman and strange, some seemingly missing from their plinths, others flickering in and out of view, changing shape and colors, or completely alive walking along with you. Standing by the side of the corridor and closing your eyes transports you to another plane.

>You appear inside translucent jars embedded in the ground of a fairly earth-like place. The ground is green with grass in the immediate vicinity, but otherwise there's largely sand all around. You notice you can see extreme details, looking at a person you can see their pores, the fine texture of their skin, miniscule scars or imperfections, as well as microorganisms if you focus. Going to the sand you can see tiny aliens (black exoskeletons, feelers, stubby arms and round segmented bodies) milling about through microscopic tunnels, thousands of them in just a small area and probably billions if they inhabit the entire desert. They seem scared, but if paid attention to will beckon you closer. If touched, the creature and yourself are transported to another plane, the creatures all eager to get there but scared because you can kill millions of them with a single step.

>You appear back on the material plane in a village you haven't been to before. An old friend in the crowd approaches you and asks you to their house for dinner, where his family is waiting eagerly and the dinner is almost finished. All they can talk about is dinner and how much they're looking forward to it, and when it's finally served you see it's human meat. The housecat, the birds flying outside, and any other animals are also very human in their appearance (though they still behave and sound like animals). There's a portal in the town square to get to the real material plane, but why would you want to leave your old buddy so soon?
>You appear in a gloomy place, the sky gray and featureless and the ground covered in mounds and piles of skeletons, skulls and some rotted clothing and other equipment (none of it human). In the sky above is a large black moon, descending down and making you feel light as the gravity shifts gradually. Given time it will attract everything off the ground, and ascend into the sky again before expelling it all to rain down upon the blackened earth again. Above the moon is a darkened hole that can be jumped through from the top of it, transporting you to another plane.
>You appear on a stone pedestal far off the ground, about 30 feet in diameter, with more of them as far as you can see in the fog that seems to permeate all of this world. Each one seems to have a bonfire and one or more figures sat beside it. Some are silent and still, others chant strange words, move around erratically or add to the fire from their own bodies. Some fires are also burnt out, but even they emit a faint glow. This glow is what lights up most of the place, there is a faint glow echoing through the fog that might come from the sky, but that too may just be from more bonfires. The figures will transport you to another plane if you sacrifice something to the flame.
