Go to Roll20, find a game that's looking for players that sounds interesting and is run at a time you can play, ask if they're okay with newbies, most of them will be. From there you should be fine.
Don't listen to /tg/'s opinions too much, most of these dorks don't actually play any games, they just vent their bitterness on here.

Get some mates together and buy the DnD 5e book - though this does require one of you to volunteer to be GM. DO NOT GM IF YOU DON'T WANT TO, it'll be a chore (but if you want to, go for it, it's the most rewarding seat at the table).

If you can't find a GM, just go on Roll20 or something

But we've been getting more in to traditional games lately.

Been wanting to start up a Pathfinder campaign with them, but no one has taken the time to get familiar with the rules.

Really, any kind of fun board games, card games, or RPGs would be great.

But I'd be willing to read up on the rules for anything that is fun to play

So far we've just been playing Heroquest, Monopoly and solving puzzles, but we've only had the game for a few days

What should be done with the Orks, /tg/? They currently don't really play much of a role in the setting. They're basically irrelevant to everything that proceeds in the galaxy and spend all of their time in the Waaagh!, only coming out to do insignificant raids. What could be done with them to get them more involved and really set them up as a faction worth noting? Is there a problem with the Orks, and do they require some kind of change or rework? Or are they fine the way they are, and do they merely require some plot lines to be set up that feature them as a main driving force? If so, what could they get up to that would actually be noteworthy, unique and interesting?

That's not even correct though.

Octarius and Armageddon are obviously the biggest examples but they've had plenty of impact on the setting.

They slave raid entire planets into near non-population. We never hear of these planets because any story built around such a place would be Tuesday from a DE perspective and too horrific for comfort from a human perspective.
