Alright guys, I am running a classic civ game. You will serve as the ruling council for the your selected civilization.
The first choice will be for what race you want to play. Since I am rusty and have succesfully DMed these civs before I will give you three choices.

A. Orcs
B. Dwarves
C. Vampires

A group of nomadic monks, whose goal is to travel from mountain peak to mountain peak, carving each mountain face to that of the god of said mountain, leaving a number to setup a monastary before traveling to the next peak. Tunelling is an oft used method, as making travel easy for others is a secondary objective.

I will take this just to keep things moving.

Your clan was once great and powerful, your father commanded the respect of many warriors and gained great glory for your people and the gods.

Only a rival backed by demonic powers was able to strike him down in single combat. With his son (decide name) being too young to defend the leadership of the clan, many of your followers scattered to the winds, joining other more powerful clans. Leaving our clan a mere shadow of its former strength. Our leader has finally come of age, into a world of strife, with clans divided and the neighboring realms weakened by decades of war.

What is our leaders specialty?

A. Shamanism , always attuned to the gods you draw strength and visions from their divine inspiration. The gods can provide many gifts including weapons, magic and miracles both on and off the battlefield.

B. Warfare, through hunting and skirmishing with other clans, you have learned tactics and the ability to hold your own battle. In addition tomes from the human lands teach of grand strategy and managing supply lines in campaigns of a scale that orcish leaders have only dreamed of.

C. Science, tomes purchased from the black market have had a place on your shelf since you were a mere boy, learning how the world works and the secrets of building things better, and faster then your people have in the past. Provides access to better technology and industry.

>>44360194

Throughout most of his childhood he never thought much of his people's rituals but when Ormak was a small boy of eight, he received his first vision while hunting boar alone in the forest. The spirits of guided him to a clearing where the boar slept, allowing it to be easily slain, and feeding Ormak's family for many days.

Since then he has used the herbs and wisdom of his people to commune with the spirits of nature and his ancestors.

Your people are currently camped in some craggy highlands in the northernmost part of orcish territory after being pushed off more prime lands in the south. Living is hard here with food being hard to come by and the harsh temperatures lowering our peoples productivity. Aside from the metals in the ground there is little benefit of living in this area.

A. Move the clan south into more hospitable lands, where chances of confrontation with other clans is much higher

B. Establish a more permanent settlement in our current location, exploring the nooks and crannies and possibly setting up some mines.

A harsh temperature you say? Start a week-long campaign where everyone hunts as many boars as possible. It will be in celebration to the God of the hunt. Their meat will keep us fed and their pelts will keep us warm.

As Ormak got out of his tent this morning, he saw an owl fly over the camp, the owl, a symbol of mystery, confidence and intelligence a clear sign to seize our ambitions but in a way that plays it smart. Despite not being as fast or strong as some other birds the owl always gets it prey in the end.

Ormak decides to send half the warriors on a hunt while the remaining people in camp focus on building a mine over the iron vein found a few miles away.

Please roll a d100+10 to determine success of the hunt. I will take the average of the first 3 rolls. We get a bonus due to the favor of the spirits in this action.

Forgot to put my reasoning.
We can trade or domesticate animals for food.
Highlands are defensible. We have a plethora of metals which is unarguably the hardest resource to get in good numbers.
Mountain orcs are hardier and generally tend to be more disciplined and stronger warriors.

The warriors manage to slay a handful of boars, despite favorable hunting conditions a series of minor mistakes prevented them from bagging several more. The hunt gives us enough food for several weeks. The mining operation goes better, with a small mine set up along with a small primitive forge, allowing us to make crude iron tools and weapons.

Our people gather in the center of our village for a ritual ancient and powerful, the bloodbonding of our new young warriors before they go on their first scout in enemy territory. Sacred blades are gathered and fires are lit. At midnight the gathered warriors slice a small cut on their hand, bleeding into a goblet. Upon filling the goblet it is passed from warrior to warrior, young and old with each drinking deep of it. Bonding our warriors by blood. It is followed by a celebration with much grog and boar being consumed. Morning comes and the scouts leave camp.

Please roll a d100+10 to determine results of the scouting mission.

average of 102 a critical success.

Our scouts move quickly and quietly through the craggy foothills until reaching the forested lowlands most of our orcish brethren call home. They locate a camp belonging the blackspear tribe, where it appears the warriors have gone hunting leaving mostly women children and old men along with what appears to be their winter supplies.

I would assume we're all more-or-less the same religion.

Also speaking of religion the use of the word "gods" rather than "spirits" when we're specifically stated to practice shamanism is triggering me. I know it's a hilariously minor petty thing but it is :(

With the few sentries they have focusing their attention south. our scouts easily steal everything they can carry from the storage dump. Including several days worth of food, a bundle of iron axes and a chain mail shirt. They quickly make their way back towards our territory when they spot movement in the distance. Upon approach they see a large falcon, horribly wounded guarding a nest full of hatchlings. The scouts honor the beast and put it out of its misery and take the hatchlings back with them, to be raised and trained in our camp.

Back at the camp, Ormak receives a vision of ball of fire landing near camp and a strange urge to find it.

Ormak despite watching every night for almost a week spots nothing and decides to turn his attention to training with our warriors. They engage in many feats of strength, including lifting large stones and throwing them and carrying large logs for long distances. The iron axes we took from the Blackspear clan have given us some proper weapons to train and fight with, and our warriors spend several weeks sparring. Finally one night, a streak of light is seen above the camp, followed by an explosion several miles away.

Upon investigation, our scouts find a large piece of black metal. Our smiths are amazed at the properties it displays being lightweight and flexible but incredibly strong. Upon seeing it himself, Ormak is struck by a vision of himself, carrying a black blade and speaking to a host of thousands of orcs outside a burning city.

Ormak immediately orders a blade forged.

Whats our next move?

Ormak orders the forge expanded to accomodate the black blade as well to increase the production and quality of our smithing. Our forge now produces a steady but small number of weapons and tools.

With the recent blessings from the spirits our people have extremely high moral and confident in their chiefs leadership. Several younglings have been born and our young warriors yearn to blood themselves in battle against their fellow orcs as their fathers did before them.

Our scouts believe that we are of similar number to the Blackspear tribe and that through our superior leadership and favor of the gods we can crush them and absorb them into our clan.

Whats our next move?(This is an open ended response)
>>
>>44361868
If the spirits and scouts are both for it then obviously we do it. Conquer the Blackspear tribe.
>>
>>44361868
How big are the wild boars? Can we ride them? Because that would certainly provide an edge. Taming them should be easy with the help of the animal spirits.
>Find boars and tame them
>>
>>44361885
Yep, it's the best idea right now.
>>
>>44361907
>>44361885
With the black blade in hand, Ormak communes with the spirits for several days before coming up for a plan to attack the Blackspear tribe. Our warriors are gathered and the scouts are sent ahead to watch for ambushes. None are found, instead our scouts find the Blackspear camp full of mostly wounded warriors and women and children. It is clear only their chief and a few warriors are in fighting shape. It is unknown how so many of their warriors got killed and wounded.

Whats our next move? (this is a player write in)

Average of 57. A very average outcome.

The warriors form a wide ring around Ormak and the enemy warchief.

The enemy warchief, is older and has the scars of a grizzled warrior, wielding a massive great axe carved from the bone of a large animal. Fortunately he appears to nursing a wound on his left arm.

You hang back and dodge the first swing, however even with black blade, you unable to land a strike with your counter slice. Your inexperience clearly showing he makes to strike again but feints, clipping your right leg and causing a lot of bleeding.

You are able to recover and establish your stance again for his third strike. An eagle flies over the camp momentarily distracting everyone, giving you a second to recover before the third strike. With it he feints again, fortunately his wounded arm gives away the feint and you sidestep and cleave his left arm clean off. The cheers of your warriors are deafening as you declare victory over the Blackspears.

Unfortunately you realize your are severely bleeding and collapse shortly after victory.

Ormak wakes up nearly a week later, his wound stabilized but will leave a nasty scar.

He is now the ruler of two clans and has gained a small amount of territory to the south. The warriors of Blackspear were mostly wounded but will be ready to fight again in a few weeks.
