Recap:

You are Sergei Yegorovich, son of former Soviet citizens, and a first generation American, and university student. A little while ago you met a mysterious man by the name of Dr. Speranskii, and found yourself back in time to the year 1872. You appeared right in front of the Winter Palace, and were arrested but soon cleared of the charges in exchange for given the choice to assist the Inspector General of the Third Section in protection of the Tsar and his family. Today Is a big day however, and you yourself will be given an extensive tour of the Winter Palace to see the day to day operations, as well as take in the vast amounts of luxuries and grandeur that the Romanov Dynasty possesses.

You wake up to the nudging of the Corporal by the name of Soloviev.

“It is time to get up, Mr. Yegorovich.” The Corporal says before placing a clean guards uniform on your bedside table.

“Whose is that?” You ask pointing at the Uniform.

“That is an officers uniform commissioned by General Dreletn to make your presence less suspicious. I believe it is of the Captains rank.” Soloviev mentions then exhales some air in what seems like jealousy.

“Oh thank you. Don’t worry Soloviev; I don’t feel like bossing anyone around really. I just have one goal in mind to return to where I came from and nothing more.” You say with confidence.

“Very well then.” Soloviev says while walking out of the room.

“What the hell is his problem?” you say to yourself.

Yeah, here's some advice: DON'T.

And I really wish I was just trolling, but after several earnest attempts at that from me and other GMs I know, it's sincere advice. So, just don't. It's doomed to failure UNLESS you have an entire group of players who are really sharp, attentive, and on-the-ball. And most likely, you don't.

Have scenes and subplots based around their families, friends, and homelives.

The short version is: be prepared for things not to work.

Investigation is a thing that one would hope works well in an RPG format. Unfortunately, making the acquisition of clues into a stock challenge makes the game hostage to whatever resolution method you're using. Worse luck, you're relying on the players to take careful notes and make deductions in order to solve the case. While those things do happen in RPGs (the same searching for clues and putting together a mental picture of what's happened is often part of, say, a D&D adventure), by setting up the scenario as investigation you're relying on them to carry the game.

It might work out for you and your group. I hope it does. But I strongly recommend a plan B.

It's a shitty story.

It literally makes no sense, and is basically "Look at what my imaginary GM who is supposed to hate me let me do," except that everything Henderson does is just LOLSORANDOM and XTREME. All with, complete with passive aggression, rule breaking, and reliance on such leaps of logic that just about every situation completely unravels the moment you ask even the simplest of questions.

It's like baby's first dumb player story.

It depends on how much augmentation or drone operation is part of military practice.

An armed forces which uses cybernetic or biological augmentation might offer a perfect, superhuman body as a benefit of enlistment, with the downside of pledging yourself to military service until you pay off the cost of your body.

On the other hand, if a military uses remote operated drones, you could have your 'soldiers' be fatarses sitting in VR suites and they'd still be combat effective.

I would say very important, the condition of the human form is directly related to how much augmentation it can handle, how much data it can process, the speed at which it does.

The fitter, stronger, faster and more intelligence they have the better able they are to adapt to body modification, implants and all sorts of tech-sorcery.

This is the thing that always bothers me. Why would the military offer to give you a weaponized body and then let you keep it after your service is done?

Then again the way GiTS does it makes sense, you're given a civilian grade cyber body and any pertinent memories or information about what you do or know is wiped.
