I drop the sword and run away in case she's the lady of the lake and wants to make me king of the brits.
>It turns out the local Mermaid Blacksmith is having trouble getting business, and is giving away free samples. Unfortunately, most people don't speak Aquan, resulting in a lot of confusion and a few accidental coronations.

I'm looking to branch out from my current games, and get more invested in tabletops. I'm not completely inept when it comes to /tg/ games, but I only have a few games of experience, and still have a lot to learn so expect inexperience. I'm down for anything, am not the type to just drop out of game, and can usually get along with anyone.

>QM question
What genres do you think just don't work in a quest format, if any?
>Player question
In a new quest, on what do you like having control? Setting, personality/appearance of the MC?His or her name?
>>44540495
>What genres do you think just don't work in a quest format, if any?
Mystery, slice of life, strategic planning, anything without a lot of action. Also, stuff with a lot of die-rolling. For evidence I point to Joker Quest, where the final battle has stretched for MONTHS.
>>44540495
>What genres do you think just don't work in a quest format, if any?
None. Some are harder to do, but if you're determined you can make a fun quest within any genre you like.
If done right, would a Shonen quest work?
Why do people minimax?
Do you find enjoyment in it? Is it a compulsion? Do you ever even recognize when you're doing it? Above all, do you care if you do?
>>44538468
What's minimax?
>>44538468
I don't enjoy wasting time and effort on shit I don't need.
If you were interested in getting bigger biceps, triceps, shoulders, and pecs, would you go jogging and reading about history? If you needed to go to the store to make the most delicious sandwich ever, would you stop by the car dealership first?
Wasted stats are wasted potential. It's the same reason racers rip out the upholstery and seats in their cars to lower weight.
>>44538468
Why don't people min/max? Do they just not care? Are they just not trying?
Some people enter marathons for no reason or just to say they did it. That's kind of stupid compared to people who enter marathons to beat a personal record, to come in first, or to improve themselves.
We thank you for dispatching that group of bandits. In return here are ten of our finest Llamas in payment.

You can't stop fyreslayer edition
via Archibald_TK @ Warseer
"Fyreslayers Hearthguard (5 miniatures) - 33€ 25£ 40$
Slayers with shorter beards with what looks like shooting weapons, greataxes or some sort of flail halberd.
Fyreslayer Vulkite Berserkers (10 miniatures) - 45€ 35£ 60$
Slayers with dual axes, or a bladed shield coupled with an axe or pickaxe.
Fyreslayer Auric Runemaster (1 model) 23€ 18£ 30$
This is not the one we saw on the sprue, that one carries some sort of brazero staff and he... he... he has no mustache!
SURPRISE! The WD shows the models that have yet to be released everywhere. I find the new giant salamander to be absolutely gorgeous. IMO in term of design they take models like the slaughterbrute, break them in half, throw the parts into an incinerator and bury the ashes 3 feet under.
For those wondering, Fyreslayers use the Ur-Gold to create runes over their own body. I have no time to actually read the WD but I'll come back later if there is anything interesting. I think that army design is a success."
A few more nuggets of info from the WD:
- Fyreslayers are born from the fight between Grimnir and Vulcatrix.
- Fyreslayers believe that in Ur-Gold resides the essence of Grimnir, their shattered God.
- Ur-Gold is magical. There is a funny rule when you play a Runemaster where your opponent chooses one of his units as carrying some gold, and thanks to it said unit can reroll all 1 to wound. But better not let the Runemaster get close enough and realize you are carrying the gold or the Fyreslayers will go all chop chop on you.
- When they insert Ur-Gold runes in their flesh, their God's energy starts flowing through their vein. This lead to things like being surrounded by flames, striking harder, more resilient skin (I suppose that's why they have 5+ save).
This is how each of their chapters is organized:
- Chapter mast.. no wait what am I saying? I mean Auric Runefather.
- Below that is the Auric Runemaster (the one in the WD)
- Auric Runesmiters
- Grimwrath Berzerkers
- Auric Runesons
- Hearthguard Berzerkers and Auric Hearthguard (the ones in the WD)
- Battlesmiths
- Vulkite Berzerkers (the ones in the WD)

A Summary for lazy yiffmeisters:
The legendary Godmodder did battle with the Defenders 4chan in attempt to destroy the site for wasting his time. Antics ensued and the Godmodder became a female due to a magical genderbender dagger and a Anon summoned her past self who died from exposure to /b/
The Godmodder managed to obliterate /pol/ and /b/ in her rampage.
One Defender tried to absorb the dark energy of /b/. They became the /b/east, the a corrupted monstrosity. The Godmodder briefly took control of the /b/east before fleeing inside a wound that was created. The Defenders ventured into the /b/east's entrails and found it's Heart. They prepare to do battle.
*a corrupted monstrosity
The Hero Pistol managed to stop the Heart from pumping Miasma by breaking the Miasma Vessels carring it into the Entrails
The Heart has taken 1000 damage thanks to MacGvyer.
The Heart 59000/60000
The Godmodder uses her Dark Bump ability.

Terrible DM Thread:
Was recently in one the worst campaigns I've ever been a part of. It was pretty similar to pic related. The whole campaign felt like the DM's fan fiction.
>The campaign had not even started yet and there were warning signs.
>DM is using a homebrew setting with an emphasis on it being a land of heroes.
>Discusses in detail with players the many DMPC's he rolled up for the campaign and how "badass" they all are
>The briefing for the campaign on our community page is as long as Moby Dick
>First session is kind of rough and shows many signs of railroading.
>Setting is massive and the starting town can only be traversed through various means of transport that the DM uses to set us on course.
>Power scaling is fucked with almost every character being twice as powerful as our characters (starting at level 7)
>A few sessions in and the flaws are really starting to show.
>Most of the time, the party is being helped by multiple DMPC's who take part in combat and everything because all encounters are significantly above our level
>DM is pretty much playing his own game
>It gets worse
>4 sessions in DM introduces a character of his from a previous campaign now level 30 (we're 8 at the time)
>To show off how powerful this DMPC is he had this character fight other DMPC's (PvP against himself)
>I quit the campaign by the 6th session
>Haven't heard a single positive thing from my friends who are still in the campaign.
>>44528560
Never had anything that bad, but I do have a shitty payoff story.
>DM I've played with before proposes new game
>I like the last campaign, got enthusiastic, wrote back with ideas for courtier-type character
>Got response inviting further elaboration
>OK!
>Lay out character fit for doing courtly things in court, with some character hooks to use on them
>Know I'm on the same page as another player
>Session 1: we get ordered out to some hick town
>Deus Ex pins us there
>DM produces hand-drawn map for this town, making clear that it will be the campaign center for a long time to come
>Players who had been talking up courtly intrigue ask what the actual fuck
>DM says that he never promised anything of the sort and we have no right to feel misled or disappointed
>>44528560
>>44528853
Why do DMs do this? Why is their head so far up their ass? Did they forget that story-telling needs to be tweaked when there's other people contributing?
>>44529279
A lot of DM's are terrible at improving when players want to do something they haven't planned for.
Do you often play as archetypes that are completely different in game that what you are in reality?
For example, IRL I am fairly well built from being shit like a Mover, Lumberjack, Construction worker, etc... and I find for some reason the majority of characters I make in game tend to be lithe athletic or nimble characters, which is often pretty much the exact opposite of me most of the time.
Anyone else do this?
I play interesting characters while, IRL, I am boring
I like playing girly girls.
I'm not very girly.
>>44526027
Are you even a girl? I think you get bonus points if you're not even a girl.
Today, I bring to you a tale most vile. Most disturbing. Most uncomfortable. I bring you the tale of the self-mutilating Drow/Tiefling bard, played by the we-think-transvestite player.
Firstly, time frames: this occurred back in the semi-early days of 4e, the online builder was only just released. Same group as my last story about That Guy Jack, minus Jack of course.
The new entry in the group went by "her" online handle, Pale. I put "her" in quotes because she said she was fully female but had a little too much of the male hormones. No judgement there, but they were *utterly obsessed with drag queens*, and always "dressed up" as a "woman pretending to be a drag queen."
She also "had an issue taking roleplaying seriously", which is why she played a bard whose 'performance' was cutting off her own skin...

No "real" subject today. But we've now got a booru to share images on, since the old Gangrel Minus went down. So today's topic is bringing attention to that and getting people to upload things to it, since I can't do it by myself (especially since most of my images are from gelbooru).
http://urbfan.booru.org/
Be sure to tag things as best you can, tagging helps people searching. The idea is to have a repository of character art, but any sort of inspirational image is good, so backgrounds and monsters help as well.

I'll tell you what, I'm really digging The Chronic's Investigation rules. My players really like a mystery, but I've not been very good at making them fun to solve, stumping them because I had a very rigid idea of the mystery.
The system works much better, since it says "look you want them to find the clues, because otherwise there is no story, so give them stakes for good investigating other than "you don't find out"."
I'm gonna try and incorporate it into a Mage Chronicle I'm writing, using a stop gap rule set until 2nd edition comes out.
Also, I've been toying with maybe giving a bash at updating Genius: The Transgression to Chronic rules. Is that something people would be interested in?
>>44520581
>The Chronic
I giggled.
Isn't there already a 2e Genius update? Or did the guy not do that because he hates nWoD as is, and taking it further from oWoD kills him?
Also, surprisingly enough, Bloodlines has kind of given me ideas for running a mystery. All of the important things require a Computers or Inspection or Lockpicking Feat of like 3 or 4, while anything that's sequence breaking or requires 8 to 10.
This seems interesting. Is it basically Eldritch detectiving?
Well that escalated quickly.
And all because Charlie couldn't handle an unexpected bit of difficulty in communication as well as he thought he could.
>Parson doesn't realize he was baffled
>Thinks Charlie legit tried to kill him even though he turned
>Turns back to Gobwin Knob
