Suppose you have a race of intelligent brachiators. Fantasy orang-utanmen. They're fairly primitive, but the use of tools is widespread. The same goes for weapons.

Common weapons are variations of hand or arm weights, that make their punches and haymakers pack a much bigger punch.

Still, the brachiatiors realise that their prey is much easier to take down with cutting or piercing weapons. What kind of bladed weapons would they come up with, keeping in mind they need their hands to move at full speed?

And worldbuilding general, I guess?

Sorta... eh? The different realities are creative, but somehow none are as compelling as the RIFTS geography.

I think you missed the point of Torg - it all takes place on Earth same as Rifts.

So Jovian Chronicles is having its table top side get more of a focus now, and they managed to get their goal in less then 2 days.

What are your thoughts on this game and setting /tg/? I haven't seen many people outside of my city (the home of the game) even aware of it.

I hate to say this, but these figures look really shitty compared to the Dropfleet Commander and Firestorm Armada figures. You would think that resin figures would be higher fidelity than DP9's almost as lame plastics.

That's true, but for their price it seems of fair quality, at least in my opinion.

>there are almost no rules for non-combat related things
Why is this a thing?

>>
>>51802948
Because people think that you should just be able to roleplay all social stuff and the GM should be able to handle stuff like investigation and exploration, so the only thing that needs rules is combat (and of course you need detailed combat rules because combat is important)

Asked this in the last thread.
So after playing the new resident evil, I really want to do a run where the PCs are in a MASSIVE sprawling mansion with completely weird shit in it and getting more and more surreal the deeper they get into it.

So the setup I have is that a powerful spirit made a deal with some guy to give him 30 years of riches, power and fortune in exchange for his soul. But now the time is over and the guy used his power to create powerful wards around his mansion that prevent the spirit from collecting it's prize and the guy hasnt left it for decades.
The Runners are payed through a surrogate to get the guy out of his mansion.

I just need some help coming up with a bunch of NPCs and insane shit to put into that mansion
I imagine that whoever wanders into this hell house isn't allowed to leave anymore, because the owner is a crazy and paranoid wizard, but he doesn't outright kill anyone either, because he enjoys the companionship and needs servants.
The mansion itself is dangerous as fuck, in the spirit of RE, but most of the NPCs that made it till now have learned to navigate it.

Do you guys have any great ideas for random NPCs and rooms the runners could encounter?

So far I have:
-A corp agent who was sent in here a few years ago to find out WTF is going on here. He has survived through sheer badassery and actively tries to kill the wizard at this point, but at this point has run out of his original gear and has to rely on MacGyvering shit. Might be friendly or hostile to the runners depending on how they act toward him
-A very mercantile boy scout who REALLY wanted to sell the rich man some cookies, or handkerchiefs, or whatever and stumbled into the hell mansion. He's very cowardly, but kept his streak for business and actively trades with the other people and spirits in the mansion. Acts as a resupply possibility if the PCs bring him the right stuff

Reposting since I wrote this when the last thread was dying:

So I finally got my core rulebook and as the internet warned me the gluing on it appears to be very weak. From your experience, do they hold the pages despite it or should I save myself the nerves and ask a bookbinder to take it apart and have it sewn ? Could they put it back to the original hard cover after it from your experience ?

okay, here's what you do

assuming you have the base mechanics:
>steal (port) stuff from other books

build up bigger things between sessions

Hello anons. I didn't play much tg rpgs, only some DnD and Warhammer 2ed. I am looking now for rpg system to buy for being GM for my friends, any help appreciated.

Must have:
1. No DYI. It must have extensive library of monsters, items etc. books.
2. No weirdness. Not requiring me to know about background, no fate/path, game mechanics for doing some story stuff. Just beating the crap out of monsters for loot, the story I will work on myself.
3.Mini figs/tokens based. On grid or without grid, but they have to be there and coordinates of them must be important.
4.They are more accustomed to gamist/boardgame than roleplaying. So no cinematic stuff like "I decide to jump on girandole, double flip and land blade in ogre eye."
5.Still being RPG and not wargame.

Savage Worlds.

1: Has a fuckton of content and new content is easy to make
2: Can be very well done as a straight-up monster slaughter
3: It's gridless
4: It lets you do shit like that but it imposes stacking penalties making it much harder to succeed
5: Though it can be played as a wargame or skirmish game, it does both equally well

Oh yeah, a protip for SW; encourage usage of the called shot rules (this is almost mandatory for bigger monsters), and import the escalation die from 13th Age. The escalation die is basically a +1 bonus each turn to attack rolls that caps out at 6 that the players benefit from.

The game has a pretty big wiffing issue on high-toughness monsters but this alleviates it.

What is the longest you would want to invest in any one session of play, regardless of the system or setting? Is there a minimum time that's needed to 'get shit done'?

Personally, I hate 5-6 hour boondoggles that mostly consist of people not being at the table because they're taking various breaks. I'm more of a 3 hours maximum kind of player/GM that don't take all day and leave you time for a personal life.
22 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>51801498
The maximum is as long as the shortest attention span, or ability to keep playing. The time was, we could run for 8+ hours at a stretch, running the whole thing in our heads.
Then go home and come back the next day to do it again.

But jobs and life and sleep schedules and meal schedules get in the way of that.
And then one of the players got herself pregnant, so that pretty much put an end to her involvement.
>>
Current groups I'm in do 6+ hours once a week which is really draining on me especially when it's 6+ hours of mostly talk and investigation. I would rather have 4 hour or so and more often per week but they all work such twisted shifts that once they have time they wanna do all nighters.
>>
>>51801498
>Personally, I hate 5-6 hour boondoggles that mostly consist of people not being at the table because they're taking various breaks.
I had a good group the few times I had an in person group and we regularly had 5+ hour sessions and everyone was having fun.

It's no problem, we have spares.
>>
>>51801259
In our settings, the characters are gods having to deal with a disgusting bureaucracy filled with other gods, with back stabbing and using our own followers as cannon fodder and shit like that. Gods are not allowed to kill other gods on the "godly" plane (because if gods were, then all hell would break loose), but you can kill a god when they leave this plane (which they have to for their followers) or you know, some people are sneaky enough to not get got. Now if the head god of Death died, then the thousands of other death gods who need to get enough votes to become the new head god from the other gods.
>>
Death as a metaphysical force is integral to the continued existence of the universe. It can't be destroyed as long as life exists, because its opposite requires an antithesis.

Psychopomps and death spirits can be 'killed', but like demons, their energy is reconstituted.

Here's a story I'm pretty fond of

>Party is a swashbuckler, war mage and ranger
>Clearing out a stronghold filled with orcs for the local village
>Clear through a group of orcs and examining a locked door
>DM tells us to roll perception checks
>We fail
>A javelin is thrown at us and critically hits me
>Turns out that one of the orcs was only knocked unconscious and the DM was rolling fortitude saves to get it to wake up
>Another javelin gets thrown at me, hits me
>Command the group to specifically knock out that particular orc, no blades only blunt trauma
>Knock it out
>Clear out the dungeon, find some intrigue and explicitly told the DM that we take the unconscious orc with us
>Recruit the orc into the party
>Became our javelin throwing mascot who has saved our skins multiple times throughout the adventure

In one of my brothers campaigns I was playing a Scion Wizard, my friend was playing a Half-Elf Bard, and a mutual friend was playing a Human Rogue. There were three other players, a Dwarf Paladin, a Dwarf Cleric, and a Dwarf Fighter, but they were in their own group because no one could find time to play together for at least a month. Our group of three only played once, but it was one hell of a session.
The three of us were traveling to a massive metropolis that was the capitol of the human empire. We had met on the road there and decided that it was safer together than not. There was one last town before the city and we would stay there before we made it to the city. On the way to this town, however, we were ambushed twice, first by goblins and second by murder bandit (cultists?). The goblins almost killed the rogue and the bard, and the bandits knocked me and the bard out before the rogue killed the last one. The town visit was uneventful for me and the bard, I just read tomes in my inn room until we could leave.
We left the following morning, and half-way to the city we were ambushed once more, this time by a dozen impoverished peasants who have lost their farms and their jobs. We had already learned that without a meat-shield at first level this many enemies will destroy us. So we opted instead to bluff and intimidate as if our lives depended on it (and it did). They wanted money, and we didn't want to pay them (I also had no money, I spent it all on character creation and my tavern fare). While I had no spells prepared for affecting the mind, I did have all of my wonderful fire-related spells, most notably burning hands and grease. Since me and the bard knew each other best, we immediately began our master plan, which consisted of him talking me and the rogue up as dangerous criminals and me attempting psychological warfare with the peasants.
Some world details first though, continued in the next post.

That thing you want to do? Don't do it.

If you must, for some reason, run a AD&D one shot you can run the start of Tales of Enchantment in one night, or cut out enough encounters to finish it up without needing to take several sessions.

The OSR general's mega has quite a few AD&D2e resources under TSR/AD&D 2nd Edition. However I agree with the other poster, why do it? If you just want to do a one shot to see how the system works, that's fine. But if you're looking for a system to play then I would recommend Basic Set (B/X) or AD&D1e before that.
