This is why GURPS is the greatest system on the market.
You can do whatever the fuck you want with ease.
Fight me you niggers
>>51814103
Your game is shit, you are a faggot, GURPs' conflict resolution system is boring, low-input and unsatisfying. The writing is also tedious and its fanbase are uniformly cancerous homos. Oh wow I roll 1d20 and add some shit to it, this is different from D&D because xfgsdgfgdsfgsdfg Go fuck yourself. Dice Pools or go home.
I'm going to be running my first Fantasy campaign soon. I'm bored to tears with running Vampire Masquerade and Rogue Trader, it's high time for a change!
I want to run something Heroic, good guys doing the right thing in a bad world. I want to build the setting myself (it's pretty much the main draw of RPGs for me) and so avoid Setting-specific games like WFRP or 13th Age. Without knowing too much what I'm getting myself into, I've ended up with a shortlist of Fantasycraft of DnD 5th edition. I've never done d20 anything before, but from what I understand these two games are the ones that do it best.
Fantasycraft seemed to offer a deeper Feat system which I like the sound of, while 5th edition is apparently easier to get to grips with which is a huge draw, the big reason I've stayed away from d20 games for so long is the endless ream of tables and crunch. Are there any other big differences between the games? Would I be shooting myself in the foot for picking one over the other?
>>51806636
Fantasy Craft is basically a version of 3.pf that actually works. It's still a crunchy, rules-heavy game, but it does heroic fantasy well.
5e is a much simpler game that sought to sought 3.pfs sacred cows with mixed results but still has some balance issues.
5e is significantly better supported with official supplemental material. Fantasy Craft has exactly one splat book, two adventure books, and a smattering of extra classes. Converting other DnD stuff to FC is pretty easy, but it's extra work you will have to do that you wouldn't need to do as much of with 5e.
All of the Fantasy Craft stuff is available at https://www.mediafire.com/folder/nzs6xsnzbid4t/Fantasy_Craft, from back when we used to have regular generals.
>>51806942
Thanks Anon. From reading, it seems that Fantasycraft is quite compatible with 3.5/Pathfinder, which I can understand. I was wondering if it's also workable alongside 5e? I've got the Feats open now (which are the main draw at least with my limited understanding of the game), are they inherently incompatible with 5e? The bulk of the 5e talents seem to be "If X is happening, get +Y to your roll" or some variation thereof, Fantasycraft seems to make these choices matter a bit more and open up options (primarily in combat). I get that 5e doesn't have Action Die and some terminology (at least) is different, but would I be failing before I started if I tried to mix the two? Is it more trouble than it's worth if not?
>>51807087
>but would I be failing before I started if I tried to mix the two?
Yes.
Fantasy Craft and 5e follow two very different goals.
Fantasy Craft was made to be a good and flexible fantasy RPG, based on the d20 system.
D&D 5e was made to be a product independent from the d20 system that can be marketed to fans of any edition of D&D without pissing them off, proper game design be damned.

It's the group of bumbling retards the world needed.
Individually, they are useless. Over specialized to the point of worthlessness. But in a pretty short period of time, they have already beaten 2 of the devil kings generals and befriended another.
Aqua's shitty God powers breaking unholy effects, with Darkness able to tank anything and Megumin insists on overkill explosions. They can't beat a lot of things, but they are a great party for taking on single powerful bosses.
They might actually be able to do this and save the world.
I'm running a post-Amon Protoss Camapign where characters can choose to be one of the four Protoss factions Khalai/Nerazim/Purifier/Tal'Darim.
I was wondering what possible reason would an Auir Protoss(Khalai/Nerazim/Purifier) would join the Independent Tal'Darim of High Lord Alarak?

What happened last thread? We had some well-painted models, /hhg/ now officially thinks that Raven Guard shouldn't be in MkVI, we had a lot of ship talking and Battlefleet Gothicking, then Macragge's Honour was discussed (but not how inferior it is to the Phalanx which I'll take the opportunity to point out now). Custodians where discussed (again) and a bunch of newfags flooded the thread with all sorts of questions and the Emperor should get an Emperor phase to Himself.

The only way to keep a footslogging Leviathan alive is to flood the field with groundbound heavily armored targets. You aren't doing that. Give it a drop pod.
It also looks like you're taking an allied detachment just to get Vultaraxes. I wouldn't bother with the allies at all. Just take two Fire Raptors.

How close do you think different unrelated aliens in the same setting should look like one another?
humans, elves, and dwarves look extremely similar. would it be acceptable for other aliens to have such a relationship with one another?
I suppose this is related to convergent evolution, if one alien looks like X, it is reasonable that another alien also looks like X
discuss
Convergent evolution just means that the form is very practical. Quadrupedal motion is extremely practical for macroscopic animal life and developing from that into bipedal motion is extremely practical for tool using creatures which are associated with intelligent life. The most general humanoid shape, therefore, is entirely acceptable.
However the general "great ape" musculature is not necessarily the most practical for all species and this is an abnormality used across fiction because we don't know how to draw people without HUGE FUCKIN' PECS 'N BICEPS.
>>51826277
Also such costumes and/or special effects are far more expensive than make up and rubber ridges on the forehead, but yea, convergent evolution is not an excuse for the bullshit in OP's picture.
Convergent evolution means two different planets are likely to evolve photosynthesis because that is likely the number one energy source. The details will still be different. Green on earth, maybe red or blue on another, or even black. Earth plants are mostly green by random accident, they would be more efficient if the leaves were black, but green works well enough for the plants to reproduce, so it stays green.
Likewise, you need to consider what your alien is capable of. A technic, space faring race will need some method of manipulating tools both early and modern. Early tools are simple, and will always function on the same laws of physics, that means the lever, the wheel, the pulley, ect. Convergent evolution may mean your aliens have limbs. What kind and how many limbs does it have? It needs a grasper for tool use, but it could have evolved mandibles to fill that function, or multifunction feet, not just hands as we know them.
Convergent evolution means solving the same problem in a similar way, but it won't look the same. Evolution is still random. Just look at how many different animals evolved eyes in Earth totally separate from each other. There is a species of sea mollusk with eyes made out of rocks, you can think of something unique if you try.

By that logic, divine casters passively generate magic from the universe instead of being gifted it by a divine entity. Ki is sourced from the body, the same way the "magic" necessary for a Paladin to smite something is sourced from the deity they worship.
By your logic, Paladins and Monks are virtually identical.
Is it possible to play a Druid who hates nature? I was thinking of making a character that using Druidic magic but doesn't really like the natural world.
Is it possible or does someone using that style of magic have to really love trees? Can Druidic magic be exploited?

Repostan cos it was late in thread.
When you look at the Caedere weapons, the Axe is a discount power axe, but costs 5 points more than it, the same as a power fist. Likewise the Twin Falx blades are less obviously shitty, but still basically discount lightning claws.
The meteor hammer might be worth 10 points, because instead of being a discount power maul, it swaps one point of AP (mostly irrelevant in 30k) and takes on bonus-attack restrictions* in exchange for an extra point of initiative (which can make a difference).
But are they really worth 1.5 times the cost of the power weapons their crunch is apparently based on?
It seems to me that there are two logical roles the Caedere weapon can be made to serve, but FW has given them the crunch of one and the points cost of the other. They should either be discount power weapons with situational uses available to World Eaters, or buffed so as to be an expanded set of power fist/lightning claw price-range weapons available to the World Eaters. Both options would be fluffy and make them more intimidating in combat, but instead they're left with weapons less effective and more expensive than the ones they're apparently supposed to supersede, which all other legions can access, and a handful even outdo, for more generous points costs!
*Also what's the point of giving a weapon both "two-handed" and specialist weapon? Is it to give characters using a fist or claw alongside these weapons the bonus of another attack when using those (superior, no more expensive) weapons alongside the Caedere weapons they have equipped? Who even does that?
Good loadouts for an Archmagos? Taking a whole bunch of supporty stuff on him, but he's going to be hanging with the gravidons in the Macrocarid. Chainfist and Photon Thruster was what I was thinking, I'd take another Graviton Imploder but that would cost me T6 and a bunch of toys from the Machinator, and it's not like S6 AP2 Gets Hot is much worse than Grav when BS5 PE in the T4 millennium.
Also, Militia players, how do you kit your Force Commanders? He's obviously leading my CH/TF Genetor Levy swarm, in allied detatchment.
Is he worth some toys? Was thinking a 5pt Tainted Weapon just because I might nail a lucky ID Rend, but that's all. Thing is, I always see lists where he has a billion toys and a Power Fist, wondering why.

Giving general outlines of places before fleshing out where the players want to go.
Having a plot/main quest to drive things.
>What have you tried that has not worked well?
Giving the main plot the same prominence as everything else.
Waving treasure around and not expecting them to go for it.
Leaving plot hooks instead of flat-out telling the PCs to go do X.
>Any interesting techniques or pointers you've come up with?
Write down all your ideas, however stupid. Ideas are building blocks.
Don't be afraid to steal and copy things, but be sure to change them so nobody knows.
Use cutscenes.
Write down everything in case you need it again.
Remember what the players like.
>Any good resources you keep on hand to make your games run smoother?
A big folder of rulebooks, and a folder of notes I've made as I think of things.
A big file of NPCs the players interacted with, and on the players and characters themselves. (Yes, the players too.)
