If she did her photoshoot with me - perhaps she never would have turned to crime?

If you're going to be on the news for knocking off Jared's - you might as well have some decent photos done.

I just switched back to PC and I'm looking for software to replace iPhoto. So far I havnt been able to find PC software that has the specific quirks and tools I liked from iPhoto.
I'm looking for software that can:
-Tag photos AND create "smart folders" where multiple sets of those tags can be dynamically combined together into one persistent "folder."
-Needs to be able to quickly create a user-specified thumbnail image for an event and/or folder inside the software.
I've tried Picasa, Lightroom, Windows Photo Gallery, Kodi, Plex and so far the closest software I've found to what I want is maybe Zoner Photo Studio 18.
But Zoner's tagging system is super clunky. And (like many of these softwares) it will create thumbnails for folders, but wont allow you to change it from the ugly automatically generated mosaic of four tiny thumbnails from inside the folder. Not to mention it crashes constantly.
Kodi allows you to create custom icons for folders, but it's super tedious. You have to create a new photo labeled "poster.jpg" in the folder. And it doesnt really have a tagging system to speak of.
I know these seem like super petty nitpicks. But I have over a million photos to organize so the software I use to manage them all is insanely important to me. If I do find a software I want to stick to, it's going to take probably over a year to properly re-setup my library. I dont want to put in all that work for a software that doesnt have what I want.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Acdsee
a better option is to spend that time reducing your dependence on software, by organisation processes and methods, and then you can use whatever software you want and easily change whenever you find something better.
iirc xnview doesnt suck on windows

did you do this on purpose or just experimenting?
I like it, but that's because I like orange. The photo seems a tad drab but still, I like it. Maybe crop the top a bit so the ground takes 1/3 of the photo? I don't know, try something more.

Why is in the world of photography so much envy?
I have a friend who is professional photographer that literally gets mad when he sees a teen using an expensive DSLR camera or someone using wrong the camera.
Does this happen to you too?
>>2736854
I don't get mad, but I do feel some envy whenever I see people with shitexpensive DSLRs and everything set on "auto" while using a shitty kit lens, while I use a Canon AE-1 so that I can buy cheap FD lenses because a similar digital outfit with EF lenses would set me back about 5-10k and I'm europoor.

Photography is probably the easiest art form.
Anyone can pick up a camera and with a couple of weeks of practice, can be proficient. Not good, not talented, but proficient in a technical sense. Imagine if you could just pick up a violin or a paintbrush and become technically proficient in the same span of time. Imagine if you could produce a decent piano composition just a few weeks after laying your hands on one for the first time.
Because of the above, people who consider themselves to be 'good' photographers feel threatened when they see young teenagers not only using the tools of their trade, but making compositions that are not orders of magnitude worse than their own. It makes them feel belittled.
>>2736854
Those who get mad or jealous are insecure, probably because they know they're not really that great. It's as simple as that.
Dear /p/, what are some photographers that you like? I want some inspiration for my work.

I got a D3300, came from a D80.
Why is the D3300 so crippled by software?
I know buttons and dials cost to implemente.
But simple stuff by software? They should cost nothing. The code behind it is ready done, just get some stuff from the D80, copy and paste into the D3300.
Fuck this shit nikon.

>>2743274
Because they were more popular than Pentax or others for a long time, basically it was a game between Canon and Nikon to see how they can rip their own respective clients (that would have trouble switching due to prior investments) off.
Maybe it'll get better now with the extremely stiff competition from Sony... and smartphones also getting fairly serious on the low end.
Hi /p/ I'm desperate for some other opinions on which photos I should put into my portfolio to take to a university interview tomorrow. It's for a filmmaking course but they've asked for any relevant work so please don't let me down /p/ Can you choose the best ten for me to print in A3???

Where can I get 4x5 or 8x10 film for cheap in canada?
I've been using x ray film, which makes this camera and shooting less expensive than a dslr, but the x ray film has such a low ISO. I'd like to use something more versatile, with a sensitivity up around 400, but that shit is like 50$ for 25 sheets. The best I could find online was 175 +30 shipping for 100 sheets. That's expensive shit.
I also looked at cheaper films like Arista, and they charge more than the cost of the product in fucking shipping. What do?

This is 2016. There is no "the cheap place" to get photo stuff. If 9 stores are selling something for $50, the 10th store is going to be selling it for $50 as well. Especially something as niche as large format film.
What sort of setup would you use to light basic headshots, like for someone's business cards, etc.?
It's boring and uncreative, but there is a meaningful difference between doing it well and doing it poorly.
It's called 3 point lighting, anon.
Key light is usually the brightest and is used to illuminate the face
Fill light is not as bright and is used to fill in the shadows on the other side. This keeps the image from getting to contrasty with one side of the face bright and the other in complete darkness (not good).
Backlight is used to separate the subject from the background. Sometimes there even can be a slight halo around the head if the light is intense enough. A strong backlight is important if you're using a green screen because otherwise the subject might blend in with the screen too much.
