I'm looking to buy some old soviet lenses for my Canon MKIII and I'd like to hear your thoughts on what would be best:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lens-MC-Helios-77M-4-USSR-lens-1-8-50-mm-M42-/191736868775?hash=item2ca4686fa7:g:ksgAAOSw4UtWRIgy
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jupiter-9-M42-for-Practica-Nikon-Canon-/262243514571?hash=item3d0eee78cb:g:wNgAAOSwpRRWmkZ5
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mir-1B-Black-37mm-f2-8-Good-cond-Flektogon-copy-for-SLR-cameras-M42-/141882169315?hash=item2108d617e3:g:f~cAAOSwqYBWn1W8
Is there any real difference outside of like the tiny bokeh differences you'll see in peoples comparison photos? Should I just go with the MM I like most? Where should I buy that M42 or w/e adapter?
Thanks for the tips guys. I'd probably use it for video on tripod or portrait photography

>JPEG And RAW on print?
No. That's not the point of RAW. The whole deal with RAW is that you can pull off so much more dynamic range from recovering blown-highlights and underexposed areas. Allows you to enhance shots to your liking and recover shots which would have been just a throw away if shot on JPEG.
Always shoot RAW (with JPEG if you're lazy), and when you can be bothered enough to post process.
So I've been thinking about getting into photography for a while now but even after hours of lurking on /p/ all these camera brands and model numbers still mean nothing to me. Whats a solid camera I can get to start out?
Im taking a photography class this coming year as well and I think I need one that uses film, but I'm curious if film or digital is considered better at all. Does /p/ have any suggestions for a beginner?
Hi /p/eople.
I'm an amateur photographer with a very needy job and I was wondering : do you often shoot while being wasted ?
For me, it's the case, because I'm shit at street photo and the only time I can take something worthwhile is during social gatherings.
The first times, a large batch of them was a blurry mess, but I learned with a lot of training some instincts to get some nice results.
What is your experience ? Also, post the drunk pictures you want to share.

That thread revolves mostly around lulz w33d 420 xdxd stuff. This pertains strictly to humanity's second oldest drug.
>>2718430
I needed motivation to cycle a few miles in a freezing night and lug my tripod and valuable lenses in a cemetary, so getting drunk was a good general numbing candidate. I did ballpark bulb exposures on very forgiving film so it worked out allright.
>>2718488
I never was drunk on a cemetery, must be an eerie experience.
Can someone tell me what the effect used on this photo is called?
>>2749738
It's a simple diffraction filter, similar to the stocking on a UV filter trick.
So, what you'll need is a UV filter, and a bit of vaseline. If you don't have a UV filter, or a real camera, you can use a flat piece of glass and hold it over the lens and it'll be fine since it's not a high clarity effect by any means. Open the jar of vaseline, smear it on your hand, and with this hand put it up your ass to get the thickest turd possible. Now, smear it over the glass, but don't get it too thick or the image will be too dark.
The physics at work here are similar to a prism, causing the lateral separation of red and green.

I would like to make a photo book of images I have taken on one of my trips.
I've never made a photo book before. Also I live in Australia if that affects services.
What I'm after is advice and tips if you have them. Figured I could get some unbiased advice here.
Such things as:
Book size, image size, number of pages/images, how much text/details, cover image, well to sell online if I decide to/marketing such as fb advertising etc.
All that type of thing.
How do I into successful (relatively) photobook?

look at the canon website? They have printing options but they may be more suitable for individual books not in bulks to sell.
Also, post a couple photos here, I wanna give a look :)
Dunno why I came here.

How many are you planning on making?
How much are you planning on selling them for?
Who do you plan to sell them to?
How/where do you plan on selling them?
My best advice would be, if you are planning on selling these, to try and put together some kind of event. Or events.
See if you can find a gallery to do a showing at.
Maybe a local bookstore to do a book signing.
Try and collaborate with other artists and photographers. That way the people they know can find out about you work and the people you know can find out about theirs.
Finally, if you do plan on selling these books online, I recommend printing off business cards with the web address of where you can purchase the book.
What lens was used for this dreamy look?
Also vintage 40's 50's 60's thread, preferably families and portraits
Large format camera most likely 200mm with kodachrome film

Is Leica S a good first camera for my 11 year old daughter?
I plan to get her the camera and two lenses (24mm f/3.5 Super-Elmar-S and 100mm Summicron-S) to get started and maybe get her the 120mm APO-Macro-Summarit-S when she's more familiar with the camera.

I would recommend the new PhaseOne XF100MP. It's a bit heavier and more to handle than the Leica but I think that this will actually help your daughter since she will be less likely to drop it or mishandle it.
This is a stupid thread.

Yeah, first off read the sticky and resize your shit.
Secondly if you're only going to post two pictures then don't create your own thread, post in the Recent Photo Thread next time.
As for the actual photos, it seems like you got the trails down but you really need to work on composition/subject choice. A good Astrophotograph needs a balance of interesting sky and an interesting subject. Both of these are boring as shit in terms of subject.
I don't like the first shot at all. Underexposed foreground and extremely distracting lens flair, no clear subject, it's just an overall snapshit desu.
Your second shot is a lot better, nicely exposed foreground, however no subject and a boring composition. Try going back to this location, but this time find a nice interesting subject (there are heaps of dead trees/drift wood that I can see). Once you find your tree or whatever, get up nice and close to it and make it your main focus of the image, with the star trails as the background. You could try angling straight out to sea, so there's no distracting features in the comp such as those city lights.
Post more shots please
I apologize for my posting wrong, I have read the sticky now.
Thanks for the tips, will try it out

What is the best small, compact camera for traveling? Budget is around ~$1,500. I want something that you actually want to take with you and shoot pictures with. My DSLR feels too big.
Is it pic related? I'm afraid I'll be limited by the fixed lens but I mainly plan on street photos with the rare scenery/landscape photo
>>2748272
Original A7 / A7r with a 35mm? Or is that too big?
Fuji X Pro 1 or 2, or X100t if you wanted to go smaller. Fuji cameras feel great to take photos with, especially the X Pro, very tactile and familiar especially if you're accustom to older cameras.
Obligatory Ricoh GR (it really is a good camera though, replaces my DSLR most days)
