Hey friends, I'm going to buy a D7100.
I already have the following Nikon lenses: 50mm 1.8 and 55-200mm 3.5-5.6.
My question is should I buy a D7100 with the 18-105mm lens or a D7100 with a 18-55mm and 35mm 1.8g
I ask this because I think that, perhaps, with a 18-105 I would stop using my 55-200mm. If I buy a 18-55mm I would still have use for the 55-200mm.
But I think that, since I already own a 50mm 1.8, the 35mm 1.8 on a DX body wouldn't be of any use.
I know that this is a weird question and in the end it all boils up to my own personal preferences but I'm new to photography and I'm interested to know your opinions on the matter.
A D7100, a great camera is a bit too much for a beginner but if you have the money, go for it. I would use the money to buy better lenses though. A good kit lens is the 24-85mm f3.5-4.5 yeah its full frame but so what? Also invest in good prime lenses or a wide zoom like a Tokina 11-16 f2.8
>>2746929
thanks for the tips. Problem is that right now I have to decide between a
D7100 with a 18-105
or
D7100 with a 18-55 + 35mm 1.8g
lol coudnt just stay in the thread for questions
How can I become a better photographer if I'm a shut-in loser who only goes out when absolutely needed?
>>2744371
don't do that.
>>2744371
If you want to take more interesting photos, become a more interesting person. Stop saying no, and start saying yes. Stop seeking out negativity and excuses, and start looking for reasons to be happy, and supportive.
Look for the bio of Pierre Verger and you'll learn that it is possible. Of course, you'll have to stop being a shut in loser at some point, tho.
I wanted to share a few photos I took with my phone. Come show me yours, anon.

Realistically,
What Photography and Videography businesses can make money?
And I do not mean >hurrdurr high end fashion photographers make heapz
I mean more specifically, realistic businesses the average photographer or videographer could start and actually make a great living with?
For example, the most obvious choice
>Weddings
An industry that does not decline even during a recession, is always in demand and as long as you arent a complete moron, can network and make a basic website you could enter the market and start making money, as opposed to trying to get work for some high end fashion designer.
But what else?
Specifically for you videofags out there, what market can you realistically enter and make GOOD money?
Why am I asking? I know a Canon explorer of light who makes less than the average wage and has to work a fucking shit 9 to 5 job to make ends meat, so fuck that shit.. I want to make money with the skills I have not struggle for life.
>>2746027
>I mean more specifically, realistic businesses the average photographer or videographer could start and actually make a great living with?
It's possible, yes, but you won't like it much. it's a grind, of making the customer happy. And the customer doesn't know anything about art, and doesn't care much for your creativity. You'll be shooting weddings, and events, and newborns, and senior portraits.
>>2746027
School photographers and stock photographers have always been profitable. Sure, you can operate your iPhone well enough to take a photo, but can you corral 2000 kids and photograph them all in less than a day?
>>2746027
>great living
>photographer
Pick one.
I've been wanting to get into photography for awhile, and I've come down to a nice point and shoot camera, is it as good as the reviews or should i start off with another?

How to street photography /p/?
I will be shooting tomorrow but I fear that I will get confronted. I'm amazed at how photogs are able to shoot at these close up range. They say that in order to get good street photos, you need to be close enough. Pic related is kind of hard to do especially with kids.
I will be using my film camera but it doesn't have a working meter. I think my phone will suffice. I prefer colored film as well but should I be using B&W film?
tl/dr how to shoot street /p/?

use a wide angle lens, stop down considerably, shoot at hyperfocal, viewfinder basically just to compose quickly
~5000 stranges over a few years, only 1 confrontation
most people don't give a shit, some will give you dirty looks, and others will seem flattered by the attention
don't act sneaky, act like it's your fucking job, be confident, own it
life's too fucking short to care about the perceptions of strangers whom you'll likely never meet again ever in your life, just fucking do it

>use a wide angle lens
I only have a 50mm f1.8 zuiko is that already enough?
>stop down considerably, shoot at hyperfocal, viewfinder basically just to compose quickly
Does that mean I should have a large depth of field even though I am shooting people?
>~5000 stranges over a few years, only 1 confrontation
>most people don't give a shit, some will give you dirty looks, and others will seem flattered by the attention
I hope so. Does that mean you don't shoot in the exact location twice? So you won't meet the same people again?
>don't act sneaky, act like it's your fucking job, be confident, own it
>life's too fucking short to care about the perceptions of strangers whom you'll likely never meet again ever in your life, just fucking do it
Thanks. That is really encouraging. Well aside from being affected by others is using my phone as lightmeter slow me down? My main problem with it is when the sun is shining and suddenly it gets clouded and I need to adjust the exposure or when my subject get's into a dimmer area.
What happened with the confrontation? Actually I fear that I might take a photo of a qt then he might get a police and say I'm a stalker or sexual offender.
>>2739533
get good inspo. your pic related is an awful photo of nothing. went to that page (http://www.peterscottdavison.com/shooting-film/) and found similar snapshits. you have started wrong right away if you think thats a good picture, let alone a "street photo".
you can only be as good as the quality of your inspiration. unless youre a genius. but even then you need some proper references.
go and shoot in a place that makes you a bit uneasy. ive seen shit street here on /p/, photos inside literal shopping malls, dont do that. they are safe spaces, but are the dullest places on earth.

I have crazy trouble with white balamce on night shots. It always seems like something looks off.
Okay, can somebody explain to me how you shoot at night in raw format? I don't get it. What do I do with exposure/shutter speed/aperture/iso?
I'm using a Canon Powershot G11
so does anyone here on /p/ use the vsco app as a platform for your photography? and not using iPhone snapshits, I'm talking about taking pictures on your dslr, editing them either within the app or not, then uploading to vsco. what're you opinions on that
I was never too fond with the idea of uploading my DSLR work to mobile platforms. It's not that I feel like it's cheating (even though it clearly is) but, that it is the wrong approach. Shitty IQ mobile photos are better suited to be seen on mobile devices. If the pic is really good, then of course print it, upload it to flickr, whatevs., but a fine image should be printed directly.
Now I believe Vsco has some sort of journal or some shit. It isn't like the old grid (from the vsco app) but some sort of platform to make blog posts with your photos. That could be an alternative to tumblr...
I'm going to buy my first fixed focal length lens in a few days. As I'm interested in street photography I'm thinking about the Nikkor 35mm 1/1,8G or the Nikkor 50mm 1/1,8G for my D3200. Which should I choose?

35mm on crop camera like yours, do nikkon not do a similarly priced 24 or 28?

Also, which of 50mm and 35mm is better for portrait photography?
