Do pros really use Darktable and is it really the best free option out there for processing RAW at the moment? I've been playing around with it for an hour and it has been kind of frustrating to use compared to LR. Can't even get my exports to look the same as the preview.
I want to use LR but I'll be using my images for school and worried that someone will find out that I'm using a pirated copy (can't afford to buy it cuz no student discount). Is there any way to prevent someone from finding this out while also keeping EXIF data unaltered in my exported JPEGs?
>>2870720
why would the school care what programs you use? Does the school offer LR for a price...is that why?
what about this? (for nikon)
http://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/product/imaging-software/viewnx-i.html
>>2870720
We have to submit our work online and the instructor will put it through a site that is supposed to make sure that what we're turning in is our own work and I think pirated software use might be one of the things they check for too according to some of the kids in my class.

Jesus christ what a shitty jpeg conversion. Could it be your OS is a 32bit version instead of a 64bit?
If you have the chance test it out on a 64bit OS and post results, I'm quite interesting as it could be a great option to install ubuntu 64bit+latest darktable in a basic laptop with 4gbRAM; 2gHz dualcore processor for editing on the go (trips, train to work/uni, spare time in the library...or just a basic setup for poorfags).
>>2870739
This too. I use ViewNX and though its only for basic leveling and lacks many advanced tools the results are top quality. Also very fluid and user friendly.
hi there i have a old yashica 35 gsn and i want to know if somebody can help me to put it in my canon eos 60D anyone know how to dissamble and put on there?
Remove the top and bottom plate being careful not to break the flash sync wire, peel back the leatherette, and the lens sits on a board held in by a few screws. You'll run into trouble with the little rangefinder doohicky that pokes out the back of the lens, and the fact the the shutter is built in.
>>2870672
i cant do something to use the ring and fix the shutter to use like a diaphragm or something? if ionly use on 1.7 putting away the shutter is not a problem at all
>>2870675
You probably could if you're mechanically minded. I've had my Yashica apart, but only to fix the POD (and to resolder the connections my dumb ass snapped). Do some maths and work out the flange distances before you gut the poor thing, you might not even be able to mount it on a 60D.
How do you guys get inspired to go out and shoot?
I'm sitting on the last day of my weekend, and I feel like I should be out there shooting something, but I'm not feeling anything in particular. Nothing in this neighborhood interests me. I've wasted an entire weekend, you know what I mean?

I feel the same way. I have fun when I'm out shooting, but I have difficulty convincing myself to actually leave my room. I would probably have an easier time if my photographer friends came with me, but they're always busy/not in the city when I want to shoot.

How is the job market for photography? Thinking about going to school for photography, but after I finish will there be any jobs left?
>>2870401
We clearly have too less photographs and photographers. It seems like - especially in the 1st world - nobody wants to this job anymore. So, it gets outsourced to people who really need the money and are still willing to do it. We can be happy about everyone who gets into photography nowadays and has a professional approach towards it, instead of just doing it for the money. There is a lack of interest but tho it is much needed ... oh wait, I meant geriatric care, not photography ... doh, I always mix them up .. sry.

OP, if you're under 28, you might consider enlisting into the Air Force as Air Force Aerial combat photographer. It's one of the very few enlisted jobs with the opportunity to fly in some amazing aircraft that are off limits to everyone except pilots and crew. pic related
Well Im looking for a new mobile phone with a good camera, But Cheap, Arround 200/300$ So one of my options is Asus Zenfone 2 or the Asus Zenfone Zoom
http://www.asus.com/us/Phone/ZenFone-Zoom-ZX551ML/
https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone-2-Deluxe-Special-Edition/
Btw I hate Apple and Samsung
>>2870046
Every phone camera is shit because they can only fit a tiny lens.
Either an iPhone SE or an xperia z5 compact
>>2870046
those aren't good cameras.
That F/2 is more like F/12 because the sensor is too small.
And 13 MP on a fucking midget sensor gives terrible looking images.
Then every phone lens is some wide angle <30mm piece of shit, when faces look horrible at less than 50mm, and no professional portrait photographer uses less than 85mm.
Are GoPros actually worth it or are they just overpriced astroturfing fodder?
CaseyNeistat videos a lot of his vlog on it, so yeah,
>>2869941
TopGear uses a shitload of them. them and pretty much every other action oriented TV show that puts cameras somewhere where they will likely get destroyed.
a $300 gopro is much easier to lose than a $6500 Blackmagic camera.
As a photographer, they are what you use when you don't need the quality of a DSLR. As a sports videographer, they're great and significantly better than most of the competition, but unfortunately they suck at making budget cameras or branching out and so they're losing value. Only the future will show if they are as innovative as they tell us they are.

Should you try to be original when you photograph or should you just be yourself? Is originality still possible without doing something gimmicky?
>>2869766
originality is totally possible. thing is, not all the time the "true" and free output of someone is desirable or attractive as a work of art.
>>2869767
Has someone tried to prove scientifcially if originality is still possible or how hard it is?
>>2869768
Are you stupid? There is no way that originality is not possible. There are literally an infinate way of doing things with multiple variables to change or ad to make something uniqiue. Especially in an ever evolving world of technology.

Question about window/door/mirror reflections.
I attempted to take a photo of two door paper flyers, it was a bright day and my vision was slightly impaired from the sun. I tried to focus on the center of the two doors. I took two photos. When I got home I realized I was in the reflection of the door.
1: One photo has me in focus but the flyers are out of focus.
2: The second photo has the flyers in focus (not perfect) but my reflection is out of focus.
Both photos were shot at 85mm, f3.5. The only difference being shutter speed which would not matter. 1/125 and 1/160th.
If the flyers are on the same "plane" as the door glass along with the reflection why would one or the other be in or out of focus.
I can understand this working with light but how does depth come into play in a situation like this?
I never took a selfie in the mirror and this was and accidental selfie. I will post both photos, they are both 100% crop.
Can someone explain this or give me some insight into this?

A reflection is not a painting or poster.
In practical matters, your reflection is not on the same plane as the door, its focal plane is the same distance "behind" the door as you actually stand in front of.
>>2869844
This.
Light doesn't just paint a reflection on a plane, it bounces from the window and travels the distance you stand from the window. If you simply focus on the window plane, you are focused in the flyers or the dirt in the window, but not the reflection because it's optically behind the glass.
I went on a little walk, mostly to test out a new lens. The photos aren't really my best, but I think this little set is sort of pleasant and comfy anyway, so here goes.
