Ok guys, I'm still a little new to the physical side and getting prints done, but since most people don't have calibrated monitors, stuff that you edit to be printed, do you have a second edit that you use for digital viewing? Or do you not really care as much how it is going to look on non calibrated stuff like phones/laptops/pc's etc for instagram, websites, etc.? And when a client is viewing something digitally that they want printed, how can you ensure they are getting what they see? Or do you think they won't notice a difference? Because sometimes, the difference can be quite a bit. Thanks for the input. [:

take it to a good printer, and give them the color space.
>>
calibrate your monitor and work in sRGB space; you'll be fine in most cases

for calibration it has to adjusted to a SPECIFIC printer, so when you change to CMYK that profile needs to tuned to that printer

if you don't know how to do that >>2869779
is right, they can usually read the metadata and it'll be wysiwyg
>>
You never finish a shoot properly until you see the photos in print. It is just so much different.

>shoot it at night, they said
>it can be shot anywhere between 400 and 1600 without changes in development, they said

yeah, no. the shots that were generously exposed turned out well, but even the slightest underexposure gave me ridiculous grain and ugly colour shifts. in the future, I would shoot this film no faster than ISO 640... its nothing near the amazing film that the website claims it is. Fuji 1600 would hold up better for night photography, and its 10% of the price!

the only real benefit I can see is the tungsten colour balance, but you could also just shoot daylight film with filters or post-processing

Waht's the the fuzz about Nikon and Canon? Why not Pentax?
I mean it's cheaper, it's OK and you can pretty much go to whatever fleamarket and get some cool old objectives.
Yeah, in some aspects it sucks compared to "big two" but, why not? Everything is OK with it. Cheap as fuck, yuge range of old cheap objectives, a lot of nice features and the sensation of not being like everybody else...

A. A lot of those lenses are optically garbage
B. Most of them are manual focus
C. See B, it's not useful for wildlife or sports

You don't.
>>
ez way is just play popular music and get them into the mood

understand the campaign (or art director) vision and ensure that there's a concise vision - be confident

you dont have to verbally blow them or always seem interested in THEM; you just need to be in the mindset that you know what youre doing

Thinking of making a simple pdf portfolio to pass to companies/publications when I'm applying for contributor/freelance stuff.
Would like some advice and pointers from others who are experienced in this kind of thing.

I also have a few questions:

Is a brief description about myself in the portfolio necessary? Do I really have to put some kind of flowery passage about my "artistic vision" or something? I've seen other portfolios do that and I feel I'd be lacking if I didn't, but the whole thing feels a bit weird.

What would you say is a good page limit for an average digital pdf portfolio? My 3 main categories usually consist of portraits/fashion, music, and landscape/scenery and I'd like to showcase a good balance of all 3.

Haven't personally given my portfolio to anyone since I don't live near any agencies and you'd be stupid not to have an online portfolio for people overseas.

As far as words, I feel like you should only add to a photo if you need to, and the best photos can stand by themselves (i.e. if you *need* to write something, write as little as possible and make sure your future work is better).

The issue with digital portfolios over web-hosted ones is that you either have to limit your photos or the quality of the photos to keep the PDF small enough to send via email, so I would keep pages to between 10-15.
>>

>As far as words, I feel like you should only add to a photo if you need to, and the best photos can stand by themselves

Agreed. I just feel like I'm lacking when I see other portfolios having fancy written pieces and I'm like "wait, is this the norm now?"

But to each their own, I guess. I'm sticking to wordless save for some contact information.
>>
>>2869407
Just do what feels good senpai. let your gut and subconscious guide.

I feel exactly the same when i see phony ass wanabe art photographer's blurbs, obviously written by themselves in the third person. Using words to supplement your pictures can be a crutch, and hammy.

Do you have a link to your stuff online or any portfolio you have come up with yet?

Hey guys, does anybody here know much about actioncams?
Thinking of getting a Polaroid Cube, or a second hand GoPro Hero 2 that I can get for around the same price. Which should I go for? The GoPro won't have warrenty and is obviously not going to be brand new.

Purpose is mainly to take underwater photos/videos of my fish tank, but I'll use it for other things as well.

If you have questions about a new camera, what lenses to buy and anything related to gear or wondering about getting into photography, post it in this thread.

Do not attempt to make a new thread for your new Rabal, broken glass and being new.
No pointless (brand) arguments and dickwaving allowed! You have been warned!

I repeat, ANYTHING GEAR RELATED goes in here!

This photo represents the futile resistance of man against the sands of time. Notice the sand in the sole, at the center of a counter clockwise spin. This shows the efforts of humans to deserve the drift of time. This is in contrast to the sand, which is coarse and gets everywhere: The sands of time.

Old one is about to reach limit.
Starting the thread with something I have tried over the last week. Lots of us own the x100//S// but want to use Classic Chrome as a starting point for our RAWs. By using an EXIF editor I have been able to gain CC on my X100S. It seems very stable and super easy to use. Can this be done with the XPRO1/X100??

By no means not using this images to showcase my work, just giving an idea of what Classic Chrome looks like on the x100S.
