So I want to tone down the brightness from the window in this picture but I'm new to photoshop and I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to go about this without it looking "photoshopped".
I've used the brightness/contrast, levels, curves and exposures adjustments but they all leave it looking unnatural. Any help is appreciated

get apple mac computers, at least 2, they are best for image photos and shops. They have more of the colors than windows and make better photography.

It's true, i heard that since mac's latest software update they have at least 12 colors more than win 10.

On a more serious note.... get and run CCleaner ... it will most likely solve your problem.

Fuji threads are the new "old /p/". Good personalities, recognizable posters willing to help and teach, frequent photos, realistic gear advice, good prioritization of what makes a good photo, not much hate at all. I don't even shoot Fuji, but I spend most of my "contribution" time on /p/ in there.

I know there have been a thousand threads about Trump rallies and protests, but I went out to one in San Diego and figured I might as well post my photos here too. Before I write anything else though, I'm aware this is /p/ and people on here are assholes, so rather than just saying photos are shit, let's be constructive. I'm not a photojournalist so this kind of photography is foreign to me. And I'm not a fan of the low saturation, low contrast, high noise images, so I'm sorry if that's what you like, this is not that. If you like them, good, if not just be constructive is all I'm saying.

Okay, so I will try to post these in chronological order, the best my memory will allow, and I will also just write a small snippet about the photo to give a little bit of the story of what's going on.

This first photo is not early on in the protests, just a good hook image.

This was taken right after I was leaving the rally inside the convention center. The police had arrested a protester that threw something at them. They advanced the line to grab the protester, and this is when they were retreating after the arrest was completed

This guy with the "Don't Tread on Me" flag had just arrived at the protest and was trying to move into the "Trump Protesters Free Speech Area" (It's fucking stupid that they have a free speech area). The police stopped him and informed him that he was allowed to have the flag, but the flag pole could not be brought into the area, probably because it could be used as a weapon. Here in the photo, the police man is trying to cut the flag from the pole, but he was unable to, so the flag guy just stayed out in the nearby street

I took quite a few photos of this guy. The white guy with the bald head and beard was a pro-trump protester. He was making some pretty inflammatory statements to get people fired up. It worked pretty well, within minutes of being there, he had 30 people surrounding him, and a lot of them were media.

hey guys;
I've been doing photography for a while now and my little brother has just recently picked up the hobby.

I asked him earlier today how he felt about a road trip where we could end up somewhere cool and just take photos along the way. he's in, just looking for me to find us our destination.

in a perfect world, we'd end up somewhere with mountains and a large body of water together.

we live in NC on the east coast. ALMOST every cool spot I wanted is on the other side of america.

any suggestions? the appalachain trail looks promising but I'm not trying to fight off bears or anything. Just looking to eat at some diners, stay in a shit hotel and get some meaningful photos.

Open to a desert too or somewhere with no light pollution.

Hit me with something from left field

thanks in advance!

The AT is really tricky to photograph. Until you get up to Maine, really, it's almost always too dense to get shots you're after. I think it's a really untapped subject, but it's fucking difficult to shoot well.
>we live in NC on the east coast. ALMOST every cool spot I wanted is on the other side of america.
Speaking of Maine, that's where you need to go. If you don't want to drive over to the West Coast just yet, then there's no reason you can't go up to Maine. Once you get above Boston, it gets really nice. The little towns are fucking amazing. There's lobster fucking everywhere, and there's tons of photographic scenery. Make your final destination Acadia National Park, on Mount Desert Island. Stay in the town of Bar Harbor. It's fucking gorgeous.

First pic is oversharpened.

Your shots are quite dark, which you might be able to fix in post, but I think willl probably just look like shitty HDR and ruin the aesthetic.

It looks like you're trying to go for nice blue hour shots, but your pics are taken too late in the day. Try shooting a bit earlier. Some time after sunrise, but not so late that there is no ambient light left.

More interesting subjects wouldn't hurt too.

What is the best place to learn more about taking good photos?
Started photography about a month ago and bought a shitty DSLR and I am having a lot of fun, but it's so obvious my photos are snapshits

I mean, obviously, practice and all that, but to train your eye to see better and understand things more

Thanks

I watch a lot of videos on youtube, it takes for fucking ever to distil that down into something useful, but it's free.

I can't recommend any books, but they are a good bet. Do you have any friends who are decent photographers?

I learned all the basic shit like rule of thirds, and just practice with exposure - stuff like this:
http://www.photographymad.com/pages/view/10-top-photography-composition-rules

This is just a really poor example, but from googling I found this knowledge.

DSLRs are a double edged sword because you can spend forever learning the basics as it's extremely forgiving. Film + B/W film is a very steep learning curve but my god do you learn a shit tonne.
>>
>>2867754
thank you so much

do you know any good Youtubers you could recommend?

If I really get into this whole thing, I might try film, it really seems interesting
>>
>>2867756
Good question, I don't follow many photography channels, but for inspiration / insight I'm subscribed to Art of Photography.

This guy is very passionate, and his earlier videos are extremely useful.

The is a Matt Day who is also an interesting guy who focuses mostly on film, very informative but he tends to ramble a lot.

Other than that I would hit up a photography club if you're in uni, or meet with like minded people. That sort of atmosphere will really motivate you!

Can we get a /p/ feels thread? People tell me that I'm making it, I'm earning a good income and taking cool shots, but some days it just hits you.

Particularly bad day at work today- huge shoot, lots at stake and the pressure nearly got to me. I pulled it off, but I hate being that close to the edge. Especially if you step back and consider that it's just a fucking photo to sell something.

If there's anyone in the same boat, what do you do? Even if there's not been a failure, I feel like there's sometimes an unhealthy amount of pressure.

Practice more. Get good.
I once did a shoot of 4 people in 15 minutes out of a studio to create huge studio prints by the next weekend.

Was I worried that I'd fail? No, because I've put in the hours of practice and know that I have the skill and kit to pull it off.

If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough - Mario Andretti

You won m8 - give yourself a pat on the back and use the experience to make it a little easier on your nerves the next time.

Also, every job worth a damn is like this sometimes.
>>
>>2867519
This isn't an issue of practice- I've done a degree in photography, been working in studios since I was 16. I've put in my 10,000 hours so to speak. It's not a question of skill or kit- just the pressure/nerves sometimes.

I think that >>2867523 might be right- some jobs might just push you that much further.

How do I shoot against a window with an iphone? My gf should be completely darkened...

Tap on the window, which tells the iphone to expose for that area and not the center of the screen (which is your girlfriend in this instance).

If you tap and hold the yellow box, you can also slide your finger down to decrease exposure.

the phone realises you probably dont want a black picture with the window exposed so it sets the exposure on the person
if you want the window exposed properly, and not all blown out and white, then tap the screen at that point. Wherever you tap is where the phone will set the exposure too. Tap and hold down for auto exposure lock.

Now delete this thread and next time post in a general questions thread or at least google.
