Check it out Bro's they got a great special on a 2 pack of Mora's.

Personally I really love the brown handle look,

I was stuck between choosing the professional, and the heavy duty. I went with the HD, there was really nothing fancy about the professional, colour aside.

What do you guys think? the Heavy Duty or the Professional.

Pic is of the heavy duty with the carbon steel blade.

Sup /out/

I have plenty of hiking and backcountry navigation experience, but no mountaineering experience whatsoever.

How fucked would I be if I were to spend a week in the Scottish Highlands, doing stuff such as traversing Aonach Eagach?

I wanna do the exact same thing. When are you planning it?

Late April/early May, or in August. Not sure yet.

Am i retarded for wanting to hike Scotland in February.

Ok, /out/, I'm considering going on a long camping trip this summer, and I want to have my own vehicle to do it in. I'm planning to go somewhere in West Canada, in those mountain ranges. I'm not terribly concerned with comfort, so what's a vehicle that has good gas mileage, carrying capacity, and can reasonably accommodate 3-4 people for up to 3 weeks, but would not be terribly cramped/small?

Kind of a the wrong board. Most everyone here won't consider that really camping (including me)

May as well stay at a hotel and go on day trips... Especially if you're considering dropping that much coin to go on a three week trip.

Well the point really is to get as far away from civilization as possible, and obviously that is incompatible with either staying in a hotel or hiking, because one cannot reasonably hike hundreds of miles from the nearest settlement.

Moleskin, and dual tip Sharpe.

Does anyone have a large collection of survival information? Like a mega-pack torrent? What's the best way for a sheltered retard to consume as much information as possible about outdoor survival?
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>

Don't torrent anything. Start by going on short range overnight camping trips and day hikes.

If you do what you're thinking of you're going to end up buying a tonne of shit and never using it.

To what end do you want that information? Just to masturbate to survival/bug out fantasies? Or do you actually want to get out?

This might not be the right board for this but I think you guys can help me out.

I'm looking for a cheap place to buy/get made a blanket made out of animal furs. Normally, and obviously these things are usually stupid luxury items and are ridiculously expensive and only come from designers or some shit.

I would be using it for camping with my girlfriend now that its starting to get a bit chilly.

I'm a DIY type of person but I don't know if I'd be up for killing a bunch of foxes and skinning them and...etc.

If I could exploit the shitty Canadian dollar that would be great, other then that if anyone knows a place that could make the blanket and another that I could buy the furs from that would be great.

I am fascinated by Wyoming for some reason. I want to do a week long road trip out there in the spring. Does anybody know anything about it out there? Where are the best spots for /out/?

Tetons are breathtaking
Yellowstone is fantastic if you go in the back country and stay the fuck away from tourists
Laramie is also known as Laradise for a reason
Bighorn Mountains are amazing
Devils Tower is a sight to see and climb
Thermopolis has some nice hot springs
>>
>>669203
I wanted to stay a night in laramie and then do a day hike in Medicine Bow forest/mountains. Is this is a tight spot?

I keep hearing about The Grand Tetons. Are Grizzlies a major concern if I go hiking there? Also, is it better than checking out maroon bells in Aspen, CO?

So there's about a week left of hunting season (bow hunting) where I live. As I didn't see a hunting thread in the catalog, I figured I'd start one up.

I'm a sort of rookie hunter, been going inna woods for 3-4 seasons (whitetail, bow) and have yet to get anything. So I'd love some advice, if any would be so kind

ITT we can also share experiences, stories, pictures, tips and tricks, hunting wisdom and any other hunting related things. Doesn't have to be deer, and doesn't have to be bowhunting
5 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>668916
Bowhunting is very demanding, and many people who try it aren't skilled enough marksmen to consistently make clean kills. If you're not confident you can kill cleanly, don't shoot. I assume you're in the states, so I have to ask why you don't hunt with a firearm of some sort to start out. Basic shotguns and muzzleloaders can be had for less than $200 and aren't hard to shoot accurately within their effective ranges.

The best advice I can offer is to scout hard before the season opens and have places you plan to hunt depending on the wind. If you can't set up permanent ladder stands, use a climbing stand.

Set up on heavily used deer trails away from roads.

Don't be afraid to use decoys, calls and scents to bring deer into range. You need them quite close. If you're hunting during the rut and don't have a quality estrus urine wick deployed, you're cheating yourself. Adjust your setup by the time of year. Before the rut, just use confidence decoys and plain urine. Try using a fawn bleat to bring in doe, if you're allowed to shoot them. During the rut, bring out the expensive estrus pee and adjust your setup to try and draw in rutting bucks.

More important than the setup, though, is scouting. You absolutely have to scout your spots when bow hunting.

What kind of terrain are we talking about?
>>
>>671158
btw I killed a massive ten-point with one side broken off this afternoon. It's a crying shame he wasn't intact but I guess the antlers will have what they call character.

My best hunting story is the time my father shot a hog through the lungs with a .270 and it ran a half mile from where he shot it and died right in front of me. Crazy coincidence and he might not have found it otherwise because the blood trail was so spotty.

I've mostly hunted the American south and Namibia, so come at me with questions or requests related to that.

Pencil dive? What do you do with your arms?
I also read that your chin is supposed to be tucked in and head down, but that seems rather uncomfortable.

I basically watched this video on Facebook about a guy who jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge and then in mid air changed his mind and decided he wanted to live (just look up Kevin Hines), so he basically took the brunt of the impact on his feet and legs. The bridge has a 98% fatality rate.

That's what I was gonna say.

Back in the day, my buddy and I found an abandoned pool. Spent a couple days draining the water out with buckets and cleaning it up, and then we shredded the gnar.

I recently lost my job and have 4,000 in the bank. I want to live in the woods for a while so I don't waste all my money on rent. I also want a new job. What type of gear should I get?

I have:

4 Piece US Modular Military Sleep System
Rain jacket
Polartec 300 fleese milsurp
Water resistant fleece with Merino wool lining
Merino wool thermal leggings
Merino wool socks
Quick dry underwear
Soloman Quest 2 boots
Trail running shoes
Blackhawk tacical pants
Tru Spec pants
Carhartt Force Base thermal top
550 cordage

That's about it.

I want;
Husqvarna hatchet and axe

Need advice on tent.

I would love to get a hot tent not so much because I'm afraid of the cold, but because it would be nice to be able to read on those long boring days. What is a good hot tent. Price don't really matter I guess. It will be a months rent price for something that will last a decade, right? I would also like to get a cot or something to get up off the ground. They have some good ones at gander mtn. What is the best thermally reflective sleep mat? Do I need an air mat since I'm a side sleeper? I'm not worried about the weight of this shit because I can take it out to the woods bit by bit once I find a spot with the help of google maps.

I thought about getting a pack but they seem awful expensive for something that I won't really need because I'm setting up a forward base. So I'll just get one of those camo duffel bags from gander mtn. But maybe i'll get a cheap alice pack or something. what are good packs in that price range?

>I don't waste all my money on rent
Do yourself a favor and find some friends or family to move in with. You won't be able to find a job when you smell like shit and are developing trench foot. You have enough money to rent a place for a few months anyway, what the fuck?
>hot tent
No such thing, you need a good sleeping bag.
>last a decade
lol not if you expect to make it your home for that long

Most people who go live in the woods take a hell of a lot longer to get back on their feet, if ever. Go stay at a homeless shelter and apply for jobs. Don't be a try hard anon, we believe in you. I believe in you.
