It's not trivial to calculate exactly how efficient it will be under different conditions, but obviously it is going to be more efficient the higher the temperature and the higher the humidity. If we for the moment assume that the peltier device is extremely cold we get a higher limit in that the volume of water is proportionate to the absolute humidity. Now, obviously 27 ounces per hour is under the best conditions they tested it in, so probably 40 degrees centigrade (104F) and 90% relative humidity. The ambient absolute humidity is then around 50g/kg. Now your moderate conditions might be 20C (~70F) with 70% humidity. The ambient absolute humidity at this point is around 10g/kg. So with our approximation, it would under these conditions produce around 5 ounces per hour.

Note that this is a best-case approximation. In all likelihood when it's colder, the condensation is going to be less efficient and the panel will produce less juice for the peltier device. At lower temperatures it's going to be virtually useless.

If you pull the siberian hitch away from the tree to make it taut: is there some further knot to keep the hitch on that point in the ridgeline? Otherwise it'll sag to shit under the weight of the tarp, right?

You'l have to baton off the outer wood to get to the dry inner wood. It's a fuckton of work and serious pain in the ass, but once you get a hot enough fire you can just throw the wet stuff on and it'll dry then burn.

Your father is a dumb retard then. Most compasses don't even have spirit levels, and unless you're only looking at your compass in weekly intervals while travelling thousands of miles, that lack of accuracy isn't going to be noticeable.

Even if you absolutely did need to use one, it doesn't take much effort to get the compass completely horizontal. Use your shoestring, put it in water, or whatever.

Welcome, and i guess the best way to start out is go to your local provincial parks and just hike. You will learn what you need as you go. Lots of good information on here, take from it what suits you and disregard what doesnt. I dont know any good books, no reason to adopt one persons philosophy but im sure it wouldnt hurt to learn skills from books. Also, post about your own experiences and what you have found to work. REI or your canadian equivalent, MEC is a good place to at least inquire about gear and they offer free classes in navigation or many other activities

So a compass can only be right 1/360th of the time, right? A human fits into a total of ten of the compass 'weights' or 'compass divisions.' That means a compass is really only right 1/10th of the time, since we can only go ten directions on the x-axis (boys imagine if we could camp on the z axis)

Anyway at home you look north, but
Since its relative, whatever you think is north and you measure a reading on your compasses. Once you have it, your initial North, for all 9 you simply turn to the next Compass Division. Once again, check to see if you have the correct division on your compasses. Then fine tune using the Turing-Table method. As long as you have 9 compasses, you will never get lost as you will always have two compasses pointing the correct direction.

Taking ten is a bit overkill as it goes from a 98.99997 chance of a 100% accurate reading to a 99.33334 chance which is negligible considering the extra weight taken on by the 10th compass.

Also a compass reads magnetic north which can change due to the earths magnetism. That's why you have to adjust your readings depending on where you are in the world, sometimes as much as 30 degrees.

Not at all! There is a very serious procedure one must take in order to not get in trouble. They have park rangers, drones, and thermal heat vision cameras on every tree, looking for campers that don't have their license. You'll need to sign up at the DC (Department of Camping) for your written test. Study guides are available online. Then you make an appointment for an instructor to take inna woods to test you overnight as you set up a tent and all. If you make one wrong move you have to take the written test again, which sucks because you have to pay this $75 fee each time. My best advice for you is to study, study, study and stick to the book when it comes to your over night test. Don't make the same mistakes I did, camping without a license could get someone seriously hurt or worse. Don't put your friends and loved ones in the way for a little bit of weekend fun.

P.S. Some regions have learners "permits" you can buy, but they are only good for 48 hours and you must have a licensed camper with you at all times. Camping without a permit/license (CWL) will land your ass in jail. Don't do it, they will find you. They do not forgive, they do not forget.

Sure it'll do the job, but I'm more interested in the spinning rods that you have lying around. You don't need to use a baitcaster for bass, and the setup your family got you seems like it would be better for bait versus lure fishing for bass. If you could tell me the spinning rods and reels you have, maybe I can suggest some soft plastics for you.

my go-to is a 6'6'' uglystick rated for 8-17 pound test and a shakespere something or other (excursion i think) that has served me well (its a cheap reel but in the salt ive put 20 pound braid on this combo and caught flounder, blue fish, spanish makerel, and in fresh ive caught everything from a bluegill to a 37 inch pike on it)

ive also got an 8'6'' rod with the same reel on it that i use for steelhead and crappie mostly, with 6 pound test on it, a light quantum affinity rod with a seina 1000fb and 8 pound braid that i like to work small lures with, a 7 foot ugly stik with a reel wos name escapes me, but its big (over 200 yd capacity of 20 lb, from back when i went through a phase of being paranoid of having my line totally stripped) an 8 foot medium heavy rod with 20 pound test on it that i mostly use for pike, i forget the rest of the specs other than 20 pound test line, and lastly a daiwa beefstik 10 foot with a daiwa opus 5000 bri that i use for catfishing

If you want to know how to do it cheap, look at how developing countries do it. You can see huts made of debris, wood and metal sheets in every ghetto around the globe. If you want to keep it sustainable and long-lasting, a log cabin would be the best solution.
