Anyone else kind of get depressed during winter? I mean, I fish and catch little to nothing. There's not much to hunt. What the fuck am I supposed to do. I'm so bored. I wanted to ice fish, but frozen lakes around here wont support my weight.

I would pay to fish with this man
R8 my rod build again!
Who here has experience with micro guides on casting rods? Are they worth it?
On hour number five of a Boat-Ed's "about 3 hours" online boater safety course. There was a thirty minute break in there somewhere but this is definitely going on longer than expected. So tired the "Save & Logout" link is looking pretty tempting, but I can't take the exam until the course is completed. Then I fork over the thirty bones to get my certificate which thankfully is good for life.
Anyway, anybody here fish with medium-to-large swimbaits? I could use some advice on rod/reel/line combos. I'm not quite sure I'm ready to start shelling out the kind of money swimbaits can cost but I spent late into last night watching YouTube vids (mostly KeepinItReelFishing) and it's making it tempting.

Two of my Abu Veritas rods have the micro-guides. If I remember right my Wright & McGill/Skeet Reese spinnerbait rod does as well. I think they look at lot sleeker, keep the line tighter to the rod along it's length, and they seem to distribute the load along the rod really well.
I am tired of autistic charts full of stupidities, so I will make my own autistic charts will less stupid things.
This is the first version of the first one. Don't save it because I need your backup to improve it first, or if you save it please don't repost it. They would take a place that is made for the final, correct version.

If possible add some diagrams on how to make field cooking fire places.
Great work OP, keep it up!
Overall, not bad. I would add a bit about GORP/trail mixes to the food section.
minor errors i found
add a '-' to
>and propane under 40°C
also i would add °F an oz in brackets (although i use superior metric units)
also i would add a tldr after part1 like
>Part one: Food and Stoves
There is literally no excuse for you to not be sleeping in a tent tonight. You have a tent, just do it. Post your set ups.

Pic related, my setup.
>Coleman master race ftw
I have insomnia, so I do have an excuse for not sleeping in a tent tonight
>>661924
Texas is too warm to warrant the extra weight of a tent, I just sleep under the stars for the entire year I camp.
I just use related to protect against dew
I fail to see the purpose in camping.
This is not a troll thread. I've been "camping" probably 5-6 times in my life. Most recently about two years ago I went alone, planning for 2 nights and 3 days. After the first day slogging a far too heavy pack around 6-7 miles down what I found out was a horse trail a few days after a rain (pic related), my knees were too blown out to go past the first night. I turned around, went back to the car, tossed the tent up next to it and left the next morning so sore I could barely move.
During the trip I saw miles of nothing but trees and bog. Ocmulgee river ran as a nice brown shitstain like it always does somewhere nearby. Somehow I managed to both get sunburned and the temp was near freezing at night during March of 2014.
While out there and after, I just couldn't see the appeal. The "fun" of being alone, hauling a giant ass pack around, all so I could...what, be alone? I can be alone at home right now.
I've spent plenty of time fishing in my youth, hunting, whatever - I just fail to see how people get enjoyment from camping. Maybe if you lived in a place like Utah or Montana or somewhere there is actually something spectacular to go climb and see without a lot of issue.
There is nothing spectacular about a mosquito-filled swamp that's sitting around 100% humidity 10 months out of the year and loaded with copperheads.
I'm planning to try again soon, but as I'm putting all of this together, I'm still wondering: Why?

I go camping mostly to fish, hike and camp along a river, it'll provide you with a source of food and recreation

Different bored EMT.
Let me see your First Aid Kit, and I will rate it.
Please also provide an explanation of each item (unless self evident like anti-bug bite)
Also, pictures are nice.
Don't have a First Aid kit set up? I will be able to help, I can work with almost any price point.
Please do not bring up the cancer that killed the last thread-

Anything that is not considered Basic Life Saving.

This thread is to help those who don't have the knowledge and skills of an EMT or higher.

Should an Epi-pen be used on a penis that has been hard over 4 hours due to medicinal intake?
thank you in advance. You have about 53 minutes left to answer this.
>>676643
>piece of cloth that can be used to create whatever its called the thing that you can make to support a hanging arm
That would be Cravats (Triangle bandages) and the thing is called a sling
>small fabric balls for wound cleaning
I would suggest you use these only to clean minor wounds. With larger wounds, upon arrival to a medical facility (Hospital, trauma center, Stocked Ambulance) the wound will be cleaned thoroughly anyways.
>small splints for fingers, wrists and arms
I would add a larger splint. A standard sized SAM splint is 36' long (about a meter) and would work great for a leg splint
I would add a fair amount of 4x4 gauze pads (10-25) and a few more rolls of gauze. This is for smaller cuts, abrasions and the like. Things you are more likely to see in a camping trip or a minor car accident.
All in all, not a bad pre-made kit.
>>676644
Uh, no. Go to a hospital. Have them deal with it. You already messed up taking in that medicine. Do not add more shit to the pile by sticking your dick when it is full of blood.

Where's all your food?

You're screwed.
Do you think Squirrels have emotions and compassion like dogs do? Ive been wanting to hunt them for a while because I believed that they were not emotionally complex, but now I don't know what to believe.
I know im being a pussy but this is important to me and I'd appreciate the help.
>>677327
A common squirrel call is the crying baby. Even if they know it's not their own pup, they'll still run to see if they can help. That sound a lot like compassion to me. That said, they're a rodent, a prey animal. They don't live long and exist as part of the food chain. If you're hunting for food, I feel it's well justified to hunt squirrels.
>>677334
thank you, any other opinions guys?
>>677334
The same can be said of every mammal, though. Cows are probably more intelligent and emotionally complex than rodents, and we eat them all the time. At least with squirrels, you know it's organic, free-range, GMO and growth hormone free, and you're not perpetuating an industry that essentially imprisons and slaughters animals for money. Hunting is far more compassionate than eating at McDonald's.
So I'm a uni student who went to a shitty state uni (university of Vermont) because I thought it would have a great outdoors program and I could do my favorite activity in the world, backpacking, every weekend.
Well It more seems people here are just interested in smoking weed and watching Netflix so I'm unable to find anyone to go backpacking with. They have an outing club but it requires exouberant sums to go on the trips.
What's the best way to get out and go as much as I can if I can't find people here? Is there backpacking groups or should I just go on solo trips? I have all the gear but not a car as I'm only a freshman.
Does anyone know of any good weekend trips around the Burlington area?
>>680811
You live in Vermont just go.

Those girls look sturdy, like they know what its like to be the bottom of the pyramid
Smoking weed and watching netflix is pretty great, anon.
But keep working on finding more clubs, or try to form your own. A lot of universities will let you form your own club if you can demonstrate a need, and some of them even give you some seed money as well.
Or you can form a group on meetup.com, although if you don't have a car that kind of makes that hard.
Worst case scenario smoke weed and watch netflix, and then work a job over the summer so you can afford some of those trips next year.
Does /out/ ingress?

Level 16 resistance here. Just signed up for the goruck challenge at the Seattle anomaly.
Every time I've made an ingress thread over the last 2 years, pissypants casuals who hate walking always deter any conversation.
My favorite thing I've done In game was make a 7 layer field over my entire county, lasting 3 days. The anchor I threw from was on an island only accessible by kayak. Lots of rage ensued. Got black illuminator from it, too.

Nice
Just started playing a month ago. And I'm fucking hooked
What is the best bait for rats? We have huge norway rats that are too big for normal traps but are too cunning for leg holds.
Ive heard dark chocolate.
I used to have a pet rat. Peanut butter was pretty high up - especially good for traps because it doesn't dry out/go rancid, and it also whafts around so they can smell it far away.
BUT chocolate pudding was like crack to that little bitch. If you have a rat within 20 metres of your chocolate pudding-laden trap you have a dead rat
>>679405
peanut butter and a conibear #110 or #160
Make yourself a rat bucket? I hear they work pretty darn well, though I've never had a rat problem to try it on.
Where I live the Forest Service uses light blue diamond trail markers. They are sort of what I would call a line of sight marker, meaning that if you stand next to one of these markers and you look around you should see the next marker. On a long straight away they might be 50 yards apart but in some places they can be as close as 10 or 15 feet. They are also night time reflective.
But sometimes you see a red marker or a dark blue marker which are definitely not used a lot, you may see one every mile or so although they don't seem to mark mileage. So I always wonder what these colors mean or do they just not mean anything and they ran out of light blue.
The first pic was the light blue often used. This is the red one
And this is a dark blue one. I'm just wondering if these colors mean something else, the dark blue and red.

What are you all planning for when the weather gets a bit warmer?
Want to take my first trip to Porcupine Mountains in the U.P. (Michigan). Lived here my whole life and never been. That and pictured rocks. I'm tired of making excuses every summer.
>>678978
I'll definitely be getting out on the lakes more often for fishing. I hate fishing in the winter; it's just cold, wet, and miserable. I also have some 2-3 day hiking trips planned for spring/summer in the Ozarks, and MAYBE a ~10 day backpacking trip on the Lone Star Trail in TX.
2015 was my first year homeless mainly innawoods. I didnt prepare for winter, so had to yield and couch-surf the coldest months.
this year i must make million firewoods in preparation for winter. also thinking of building small guerilla sauna :)
I'd like to go to Snowdonia , have any canons been ? Any advice?
Does anyone know what this is?
I tripled over it by a stream.
>>678781
It's an old wolf trap. Some poacher must have left it there long ago.

I'm really lost at looking for a job. I want to get into a career that lets me go to new places and go outside loads, but I simply have no ideas.
