Which is the best /out/ drink?
I think we all know the correct answer.

Bored EMT here, and an outdoorsman. Post your first kit/contents and I rate/give suggestions for it.
Don't have a first aid kit? Name me a price, the kind of camping you do, around how much weight you can carry around and I'll find you something good for it!
General tips:
1. Don't buy shit you don't know how to use. (scalpels, IV sets, airways in most cases)
2. Have something for both major and minor trauma.
3. Have a tourniquet.
4. Have shears
5. Have a shitload of gauze.
Ask away!
Haven't made a FAK yet but do you have any recommendations for one in a desert environment?

So I'm deep in the forest hunting ptarmigan/grouse (pretty much only thing in season now) and I had my 10/22. This real dark brown furred thing runs across this kinda hill, I was on my way up. I had my cell phone out using the GPS and I yelled "hey!!" It stopped and stood up on a downed trees root ball. This fucking thing was about the size of a small pony and had really weird large pointy ears, wolves in our area have small ears and are either black or grey in color, and it had a white/grey looking face. I am also going to post a pic of a coyote I took before so you can compare, some coyotes I've seen online have big pointy ears but our don't. In no way was it a wolf, coyote or someones dog. It took off and ran up this ravine. Maybe in a week or so I'm going to and get some scale.
This is what our coyotes look like
Those are big ears on that thing anon, looks like the ones on a german Shepard, same narrow looking face.
>>671826
>Those are big ears on that thing anon,
That's what got me. Wolves here hunt mainly by smell and sight so they don't really need big ears. Coyote's in our area use their ears when hunting small things like mice and voles. I just can't state how 100% positive I am it wasn't someones dog. I'm off work on Fridays so nobody really goes into the woods during the daytime because they work.
Mora has finally released a full tang knife. Are you ready for this /out/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbqZ8ekQ_Fw
>>669618
i am not.
It's just another knife.
>>669792
well you better get ready.
ready for what might be the most memable piece of /out/ gear of 2016.
ready for thread after thread musing the amazing increase in utility delivered by the full tang.
ready for photos of full tang moras in pristine, showroom new condition, alongside assertions that they could be batoned through a granite boulder, serve as a springboard for felling, replce the entire grandsfors catalog, slice bologna, and the like.
get ready.
Hey /out/ !
I own a small patch of forest and I'm planning on staying there for a week this spring.
I recently watched a documentary on a french regiment (13 RDP, you can get it on netflix the tv show is called "l'insider") and it got me thinking.
These guys dig hideouts and stay there for 2 weeks doing military intelligence and stuff, so I would like to do the same for shit'n'giggles, and because I'll have a week worth of time to kill. What would /out/ bring ?
The basics I have gathered for the moment are
shovel/pickaxe/small axe/saw/plastic liner.
For accomodation I have a small lake less than a mile away, I can get water there and I'll bring along 7 days of food, tent, sleeping pad, tarp, and pretty much everything to build a small shelter and basecamp, I don't intend on living in the hideout, just want to build it.
What I'd do is bring you think you'd need and wing it. If you forgot something you need, try to make it. Making things would add some fun and experience anyways.
Bring a notepad and paper and try to keep track of what you used and how much. If you used something once, or never used it, consider not bringing it for next time (unless it's something like a first aid kit. You catch my drift?)
Depending on your environment, you may not need things that others would. Watch for things such as weather conditions, wildlife and plants (not too big an issue with plants).
Worst case, you can always head on home. Just be safe and let someone know where you are going and how long you plan to be gone for. If able, even try to check in once or twice in the week.
>>669871
Stagnant water are not safe. I recomand a mix of boiling and filtering.
You are going to learn how to dig if you want to do the same. I am not joking. Diging a mouse hole is one thing, digging a shelter that can house a hand of people for days, with a roof that cannot be seen is something else.
Do you even know how to build a roof over you head without leaving axed trees?
>>669871
I think of something. Why don't you make stealth camping instead? The fells will be real.
What are some /out/ appoved instruments in the backcountry? i would like to get a native flute for nights around the fire. what are some bushcraft instruments that can be put together on your downtime?
>>675647
A comb and paper comes to mind.
Be advised I camp alone, so ymmv.
>>675647
Have you tried the skin flute?
>>675647
Ultra Light Weight: Body Percussion, Singing
Light Weight: Clarke Whistle, Harmonica, Improvised drums, Jew harp
Car Camping: Guitar and Tambourine, Erhu, Didgeridoo
Fedora Tier: Uukes, Ocarina, Banjo, Mandolin, Band Instruments
Hi, /out/. Looking at getting a liquid fuel stove for short trips. All my research has pointed me to an MSR Whisperlite. Is it a good stove? Are there better stoves? Discuss stoves.
>>669768
Why would you get a liquid fuel stove for short trips? Is it high altitude? Low temperature?
>>669769
It's hard to get butane canisters where I live.
>>669768
Been using a whisperlite for 20 years
I didn't know they still made them
It's pretty easy to use and clean if it gets clogged.
The weak link is the pump. I carry a spare on long trips
Hi /out/ I need your very best advice for this one
>be hiking easy trail alone
>catch up with this friendly dude
>he's really into /lit/ so we talk for a bit
>his gf shows up near the end of the trail
>she's a really good looking 9/10 /fit/izen and really into /out/
>thisisthegirlofmydreams.png
>she lives somewhat near me
>literally I start having goosebumps
>we all walk together for a bit
>she's really awesome and the guy is quite nice too so we agree hiking and maybe do an overnight in the next weeks
>I add her on facebook
>overnight is on, february 6
>ohboyohboy.mp3
My question is, how do I fuck with their relationship without being too obvious? How do I make them argue and shit during that day?
I know this is a bad thing to do but fuck it, I'm really into her and in love, just like in war, there's no rules. As I said the guy is a /lit/ dude, not the most manly guy out there but still a solid 7/10. Myself I'm a hardcore /out/ist and /sp/erg, also a solid 7/10 physically and I could easly rekt him apart, but he's a cool guy and I don't want to apear to be retarded in front of her.
Anyways ny ideas are very welcome, I'll post results and pics of her after the meeting. Thanks lads.
yikes... you sound like a super beta faggot dude.
This is not going to work, you'll make an ass of yourself and leave with your tail between your legs full of regret like a bitch.
>>679034
Holy shit. Looks like some people missed out on the rules growing up.
Rule #1- don't be "That Guy"
You will become "That Guy who tries to break up a relationship to get with a girl because, dick stiff"
Don't ever be "That Guy"
>>679036
>super beta faggot dude.
Protip: I'm not
>This is not going to work
Maybe, but I'll try it anyway
>you'll make an ass of yourself and leave with your tail between your legs full of regret like a bitch.
No, I don't
Now post ideas or gtfo
I'm not sure if this is an acceptable thread or not, but do /out/doors men have any good philosophies or life lessons they have learned while /out/ which they can share.
I'm going on a 2 week outdoor trip all alone and I'm wondering what i might learn about myself and whether it will change me or I'll come back just the same.
>asking other people what you'll learn about yourself
could you get any more pathetic op?
>>674612
I'm asking others for their personal experiences
You'll come back a happier more serene version of yourself. That always seems to happen to me when I go camping.
I'd suggest taking a copy of The Sand County Alamanc by Aldo Leopold and reading it while you're out there if you're interested in /out/ philosophy
Hey /out/ how do you react when you see other hikers in the woods? Do you say hi? Ever walk with them? Is there even a point acknowledging people when the trail is crowded?
Sup nod and walk past
I always say hi, and never travel with people. I want to be nice, but I want to be alone. Most other people do too. In the rare and horrifying case that someone on the trail is lonely and desperately searching for a friend (like old people in line at the grocery store) you don't want to give them much opportunity to engage with you and start a conversation, otherwise yer fukt. Smile, glance at them quickly with a quick greeting, look down and keep moving.
>>673963
Just a "hello" and DAS IT MANE.
I get pretty autistic with strangers. I prefer to stop and let them pass or avoid them altogether.
Only on crowded places I may exchange some words, but only with old men.
If they have dogs I am playful with them though. Dogs are master race and the only strangers I welcome
Anybody here /o/ut/?
>tfw i want to lower my car for less body roll on the street, but don't want to explode my oil pan all over the trails when i pretend to rally
I'm looking into skid plates but they're a bit pricey.
We are experts on lowering cars here on /out/. First you'll need to sell your car. Then you'll need to go outside.
banana zozzle

what
Try walking
It's cheaper, and you actually get to be outside!
Alright sc/out/s, what kind of activities do you do to stay in shape for your (enter favorite outdoors activity here) season? What do you do in the off season? What are your goals conditioning wise?
My activities:
Hunting, camping, climbing, downhill sports.
Exercises:
Mostly cardio, some weights(trying to avoid the gym til February), and small amounts of body weight.
Off season:
Lots more running and some rugby. Most of the time I just watch my intake.
Goals:
Get back down to 10% body fat and be able to run constantly for 60 mins at 7mph.
you should post more of her
Lift weights, get swole, bout the only thing I can do with my shit genetics.
I go to the gym, i like doing an incline on the treadmill and elliptical.
We're in some of the coldest days of the year now, let's see what keeps you warm at night.
I picked up a Trek Tk II long edition from Sea to Summit a week ago and took it out this past weekend. Overall very comfortable and fits into my backpack very well, compacting to about the size of a NFL Football. If you want temperature ratings on it I found this on their website

Ive got a woods microlite rated at 40 F.
I usually just use a fleece liner with it in the winter. Have slept comfortably down to 23F with this setup. Been thinking about picking a Kelty Cosmic Down 0 degree bag. Any anons have experience with this bag? I mostly due long distance hikes so weight is sort of an issue. If it wasnt I would probably just get a modular sleep system but 12 fucking pounds is too much for a bag.
>>659680
My winter setup is a Western Mountaineering Ultralight. It's rated to 20 degrees F, but I've slept in it comfortably down to around 0 degrees F using a silk liner.
Anybody have any suggestions for an affordable 30-40 deg rated bag? I want to start backpacking and all I have is the bulky crap one I used as a kid. I don't have a ton of money, but I can save if I have to.
So I'm hiking along and I came across pic related (orange peels). Immediately I was triggered beyond belief and all comprehension.
I picked them up but noticed wolf hair and little spots of what looked like blood next to them. Trappers
I followed footprints for about a half mile into the woods when I came across a trap line marker. I left them a present.
>>675493
dat pic
Can't you fags fuck off to blade forums of something?
>>675056
Best bit of the story is that they neither need nor use their blades nor go /out/, the just post pics of shiny blades in mint conditions, and what they could do with them if ever...
Knifefags are the bottom tier residents of /out/, right on par with the /k/ spillover
>>675058
/out/ is just /k/ light, that's why all the /k/ stuff like guns knives and patches get so much attention
>>675056
just learn to live with it and post in a way that you deem suitable. there will always be knife threads and if the effect they have is making people who post useful stuff here leave (or just constantly bitch about knife threads) then that won't help matters.
the only person you can control in this situation is yourself, so in short, deal with it.
