They expect you to believe that a car had these fucking wheels in 1983.
I've come across two BMW owners over the past year who keep their gas powered car plugged into a battery charger while it's in the garage. I asked why and they told me it's something newer BMWs need to do if you don't drive them very often, but couldn't explain the reasoning.
Every car I've ever had could sit for months and the battery would be fine. Why is this a requirement for BMWs? I wanted to get one, but damned if I'm doing that every time I park in my garage. I might as well get an electric car.
They were probably diesels. If you don't drive diesels incredibly frequently, or in the winter, the gas needs to be heated so it doesn't solidify.
t. guy whose father had a 300D boat
Every modern car has many modules on a CAN bus that draw small amounts of electricity. Security modules that look for your key, infotainment that stays in a semi sleep mode for the system to load quickly when you open the door, memory for seat positions, etc. If you let a new S Class, A7, etc. sit for a month without being on a tender it will likely drain the battery to the point it won't start. A week should be no issue, but it depends on the car.

just to clarify since I didn't say it - because the gas needs to be heated there's a plug in the front of the car that when used heats the gas and keeps it from turning to jelly. We did that with the 300D all the time in the winter, though my dad had no fucking idea about it for a few months and my grandma that he got it from may have had no idea since she bought the car in '83 and never let him know, lol
>>17536669
I don't think those warrant plugging the car in or else every single car would come with that sort of plug
So how clean does your car need to be usually?

yes
Probably.

how hard would it be to swap a manual trans into an m30? and wouldn't it be kinda difficult to even find a manual trans for it since in the u.s. it always came auto?
literally only the base model shitbox version in Japan came with a manual because manual luxury cars are retarded
its a VG engine so I guess you could use a 300ZX transmission or something

Grass hut
>my apartment building's parking garage is being renovated
>ramp is restricted to one lane
>door is open with a key
>two months ago
>car was coming out of the garage, the door opened automatically from inside
>I entered
>garage door closed on my car and cost $650 in repairs because the building management denied liability and refused to give me a security tape
>fast forward to today
>the key to open the garage was relocated to halfway down the ramp, way too high to even reach without getting out of your car unless you're in a pickup or SUV
>I am halfway down the ramp and car comes out of the garage
>car comes up to the top of the ramp
>they both honk furiously for me to get in
>I just sit there and wait till the garage door closes
>they're all pissed off at me
>the guy who was behind me comes out of his car and comes to my window asking why I didn't go in
>he looked like he was ready to murder me if my mom wasn't in the car (I pick her up from work sometimes)
Seriously, why should I be the open pressured to go through the door that already closed on my car once by two SUV drivers? Why is it that I was "blocking" the ramp when the top of the ramp says "yield to oncoming traffic"? The guy behind me could have reversed (as I do when I am at the top of the ramp and someone is trying to come out), or the couple in the car trying to get out should have just went back instead of pulling out and sitting at the bottom of the ramp waiting for me to squeeze by them and risk having to pay another $600 to repair my roof again? Anyone have an opinion on this? I still feel like an idiot and I'm worried that one of these people might come back and vandalize my car later out of spite, and I know that I probably had time to go in safely, but it's the principle. I had to pay out of my own pocket to get my car repaired and the management of the building told me "you shouldn't have gone through the door without using the key". What the fuck am I supposed to do?

It's too late for that. Don't you think I would have done that if I could get the video records of what happened?
hello /o/, lurker here looking for some quick advice if anyone has dealt with a similar situation.
the other day I was driving home from work and to make a long story short, i ended up clipping this guys car with my mirror at a measly 5mph while trying to get onto a right lane as he was making space for me but then abruptly stopped. my mirror folded itself as i drove past and the dude jumps out of the car taking pictures of my license plate. he comes up to my passenger window and i roll it down and i tell him to pull over to the side. the guy just looks at me with this stupid face and some hand gestures and i tell him again just pull over to the side. at this point he's behind me and when the light turns green, i make a right turn into the CVS lot and he instead decides to drive off. i get out of the car to see if anything actually happened and there isn't even a transfer of paint (car mirror has that rubber portion underneath).
fast forward a few days and i get a mass amount of tickets from that city's police department for
>careless driving
>leaving scenes of an accident
>traffic on marked lanes (???? it was clearly a two lanes)
>failure to wear seatbelt (??? lol)
>following too closely (wasn't even following)
>failure to possess drivers license (again, LOL)
>failure to possess registration and insurance (just lol)
and now i have a court date. what are my options here without resorting to lawyering up and wasting my time. its crazy that some sore loser went through the effort to do this.
>>17535485
Lawyer up and waste your time. Don't get legal advice on the internet, seriously.
Otherwise, remain calm, tell your story and never argue.
Installing Aerocatch latches in my CF hood. Haven't done this before.
Question about the stock hood latch: Should I just remove it? I don't really like the idea of then having a useless cable and lever in the car (although I guess I could pull those out too easily), but I'd almost think the stock statement would get in the way of the AC latches. I'd imagine popping the hood with the latches still engaged either wouldn't do anything or would be a bad time trying to put upward pressure on the pins.
So delete the stock system, or keep both?
>>17535481
Stock system* not statement.
Basically I'm just trying to keep as many things on the car as reasonable, but based on my thought process it seems like the OEM latch system should go.
Nevermind, forgot how shit these boards are and that virtually no one actually works on their own cars or own anything besides an econobox shitbox.
You downers are incapable of posting in any thread that isn't clearly bait/trolling/circle jerking.
Well what did you expect? This is a shit fucking board filled with bus riders that don't know a single damn thing about cars. You would have been better off posting your question in the stupid questions thread
People usually use hood latches on track/race cars for easy access, usually along with quick release hood hinges. They're also useful for aftermarket FG/CF hoods like yours since the latch built into the hood itself is prone to breaking.
If it's a street car then the latches with locks are a necessity, and don't remove the latch on the car in case you ever want to revert back to an original hood
If it's a track car then may as well remove it if you're stripping out the rest of the car
Is this a meme? My brake pedal feels kind of mushy, but not to a point where I wouldnt know how much pressure to apply.
Do these even do anything or is it a placebo?
Asking for daily driving.
>>17535467
Not a meme at all. It won't really make your brakes any more sensitive or touchy but if your car is more than 4 years old you will immediately notice a more direct and 'new car feel' to your brakes. They will also stay that way forever as they won't stretch.
It's a great upgrade and I recommend everyone do it.
>>17535467
new fluid and pads are enough for a DD, but braided steel brake lines are fantastic for a permanent upgrade to brake feel
>>17535467
>will also stay that way forever as they won't stretch.
FYI most car manufacturers already use Braided lines on points where the brake line needs to flex, and the metal brake lines don't stretch. Most of the new "feel" comes from fresh brake fluid.
No to say that aftermarket Kits aren't better that oem however.
Is rust on an engine a case for concern? Do I need to remove it or is that purely for aesthetics?
>>17535226
If it runs fine don't worry too much about it although it can cause your coolant and oil line connections to develop leaks
as long as there isn't any INSIDE the engine it's fine.
>car is less than half a year old
>downpipe and tarbu piping already rusting
such is life
>based Dodge is the only manufacturer who makes good looking modern cars
>everyone starts to rip them off
Why is this allowed?
American manufacturers have always been the real innovators.
Just take cruise control for example. American cars had it since the 80s but only recently nip and europoor cars got it.

Hyundai has totally changed their quality control and even offers a 100k mile warranty on the drive train. Why not take a decent looking car and put some reliability behind it? We all know FCA is at the back of the pack when it comes to quality control.
