I live next to bear mountain and i want to start doing some downhill races. I heard the miata is great for downhill because of the 50/50 weight distribution and it weighing 2200 pounds. What are other great touge cars that don't break the bank?

>downhill races
>bear mountain

you're either going to take out a hiker/bicyclist/deer or run into a rock wall/tree after catching air from a hill followed immediately by a 90 degree turn that you couldn't see due to the foliage blocking your sight line, it really isn't a good area you should race in though i've seen a few regulars

1990s honda civic or integra, miata or newer sport compact (used mkv gti/8th gen civic si/cobalt or hhr ss turbo/turbo subaru) if you have around $5000

or get a bike

What the fuck is the difference between 4WD and AWD?

AWD varies power between the wheels to get maximum grip possible.

4WD is consistent power to all 4 wheels.
>>
AWD lives outside the box. He doesn't limit itself to a mere 4 wheels.

You get the strength of a thousand autismos in your wheels with the style of one well-groomed, fedora wearing sperglord. It's a win win.
>>
>>17658655
If you've already got steel wheels, since your car is a shitbox anyway, you should keep them.
If you want to get new wheels you'd be an idiot to get anything other than alloys.
>>
Steel are stronger against abuse and hopping curbs

Alloy are lighter and more fuel efficient but not as strong.

>>
>>17658311
More like a slow painful death at an intersection. Few motorcycle accidents occur at highway speeds. Take a riding course and be very honest with yourself. Do you have the innate skill it takes to ride safely? Riding a motorcycle is not for normies unless you want to die.
>>
Biking is scary as shit. Every time I go to work on my bike, I feel as if my life is on the line (particularly as people drive like utter cunts around where I live, and it's all fast roads).

The thrill is part of the whole experience, so I think you have two mechanisms:

1) live in denial and try to bullshit yourself about accident statistics and being an amazing rider - there is always some cunt not paying attention, and while you learn to preempt this (eg any fucking taxi should be given a wide berth), there may come a time you just weren't paying attention.

2: Accept your mortality. I've lost two of my closest friends in recent years. How? They went to bed. One had a brain haemorrhage, the other a pulmonary embolism, with no apparent warning sides. Everyone does eventually, so you can't live your whole life being afraid of it. It could happen to you in five minutes from now when you're sitting on your ass, or in 50 years after pulling all kinds of stupid/dangerous shit.

This is general advice to consider. I'd say if you're that afraid, riding isn't for you. You need to be able to keep a level head in hazardous (busy traffic) or outright dangerous situations . If just the thought of getting on a bike scares you so much, I doubt you'll be able to maintain a cool head and make he right decisions when it gets a bit hairy.

So the other day my gf was coming to see me from about an hour away. About halfway here her check engine light came on and she noticed the temperature gauge was all the way up, so she pulls over and steam starts coming out of the hood.

We get it towed and take it to a shop the next day, where they tell us that the upper radiator hose is blown and the thermostat is stuck. This seems to make sense, so we get the radiator rose fixed and the coolant flushed since that's all we could afford in the mean time. While driving it home she notices that it's a little shaky when driving.

The next day her roommate brings it in to get the thermostat replaced, but while she's driving it back the car seems to overheat every time she stops. She turns around and brings it to the store and they run the check engine light code into the computer and tell her that she blew a head gasket.

From everything I've read online a blown head gasket wouldn't result in an overheating engine specifically at idle. I also find it extremely fishy that the overheating problem seemed to be fixed when the radiator hose was replaced but then it started back up again after they replaced the thermostat.

Any thoughts? She's drives a '99 Honda Accord, automatic transmission.

Bampppp. Would really like an opinion on this from anyone who can, I know it's not much info but it's the best I got.
>>
does car seem like it lost power from before it had any issues? is it smoking?

id start by doing basic checks that are simple. look for leaking oil or coolant externally or on ground. pull oil dipstick or oil fill cap and check if it is milky looking. if you have a compression gauge check all cylinders for compression. these are all simple checks that can be quickly done. other checks require pressurizing the cooling system and doing a leakdown check on all cylinders.

i have seen a water pump failing cause overheating at idle. that mixed with a faulty fan clutch will not allow radiator coils to effeciently cool while sitting idle.

also get the code pulled and get the code number. that will help a lot in diagnosis.
>>
>>17659183
The coolant levels have been fine and it's been smoking from the engine, not from the tailpipe which is why I'm questioning the head gasket diagnosis.
