I live next to bear mountain and i want to start doing some downhill races. I heard the miata is great for downhill because of the 50/50 weight distribution and it weighing 2200 pounds. What are other great touge cars that don't break the bank?

>downhill races
>bear mountain
you're either going to take out a hiker/bicyclist/deer or run into a rock wall/tree after catching air from a hill followed immediately by a 90 degree turn that you couldn't see due to the foliage blocking your sight line, it really isn't a good area you should race in though i've seen a few regulars
1990s honda civic or integra, miata or newer sport compact (used mkv gti/8th gen civic si/cobalt or hhr ss turbo/turbo subaru) if you have around $5000
or get a bike

Bear Mountain is an awesome place to drive, I've had a lot of fun driving through there in an S2000.
>some downhill races
Please don't do this, Bear Mountain isn't flooded with cops yet.

Well not races per say, but like a personal time thing.

So what you are saying is bear mountain is hard to touge on? I live by simple twisty roads, should i practice on those?
>>17659681
smarter to say personal time, but keep in mind you'll get spooked by what i told you above or oncoming cars and break your pace

yes, these are your cons:
>Foliage = Lack of visibility for upcoming turns
>Elevation Changes (can catch air) followed by sharp turns
>Off camber turns or blind turns (due to foliage usually)
>Very little runoff
>Deer and State Troopers occasionally patrolling
>Hikers/Bicyclists (Bear Mountain/Perkins Road itself)
I like Arden Valley Road, but its not a easy road. Just enjoy yourself and give yourself a nice cushion (don't go past your ability) in case something goes wrong.
Practice at the track/autocross, don't take a winding road with oncoming cars, no runoff, deer, and elevation changes as a opportunity to explore your cars limits. Initial D isn't real.
That said there have been a few regulars (during weekday afternoon/evenings), I know of a silver '15 STi that goes regularly for example. Tons of bikes too.

I do not want to take my 2015 corolla i just bought (its not exactly a sports car and its in great condition). Would a miata work well? Or what about a porsche 944?
>>17659982
just run it
just get something reliable you can learn on or motorcycle, don't get hung up on performance and weight when you don't even know what a 2015 corolla is capable of

Well only reason being is that i do not want to ruin a 14k car. I would be more than happy to in a 4k car lol.

Miata's good (forgiving) but you may want a roll bar...
>>17660378
That's the plan. Safety first as always.

>tfw i actually want to live
>>17660511
>Take a corner too fast in a miata
>Car ruined, but otherwise driver unscathed
>Take a croner too fast in a bike
>Bike stops at the guard rail, driver does not
>8 hour search party to find all the body parts
bikefags need to stop shitting up every thread on /o/ with their circlejerk

I'd throw in the RX8 into the mix, but you might not like the rotary upkeep.

I know a fireman and he says that they have to pick up bikers in a plastic bags after accidents.

buy miat or whatever light cheap shitbox you don't feel sorry for(yet) hit the race tracks to learn the limits and then hit mountain roads so you know how to stay well below those limits.
