So the past few refills at the pump, I've calculated ~73mpg on my DR350. Normally it's 67. This is fine.

webm related is the kind of shit that happens to people who've been riding a 500 for 5 months and think they've got it down.
Don't be an idiot, learn to ride properly. If you haven't spanked the CB around a track at least 3 times and got rid of the chicken strips with proper cornering technique, you haven't got shit down. Shit I've been riding one for 2 years now and I still make progress.
If you find most of your riding is touring and you really _need_ that extra power because you can't lug around 100 kg of luggage comfortably, go ahead and upgrade.

There are lots of teenagers who start on liters and live because they respect and fear the machine instead of just diving in like a typical "fuck it, bro, let's lean" 250fag.
>>
>>17657611
Yeah great, they managed to not kill themselves because they were too dumb to figure out how to wheelie and only ever rode in a straight line on warm and dry summer nights. That doesn't mean they aren't stupid, aren't hotheads or that they can actually ride.
>>
>>17657611
Respecting and fearing the machine are two different things.
If you fear your ride, you'll never fully get to know them, because out of fear of dying.

>>17657572

>All teenagers are stupid hotheads.

Negative. That's a wigger excuse (and they crash often). I wasn't and learned to ride on the way home in north Jersey traffic with firstbike (MT 250 Honda Elsinore) which had a blown second gear.

Got it fixed, rode the shit out of it and manybikes afterwards. Nothing but two slow lowsides (wet leaves and ice are not your friends) in ~40 years riding.

Those who are passionately stupid really should buy a turbonitrousboredstrokedportedmultiliterpeter. Bike salvagers gotta eat too.

Fear makes you afraid of explore you and your machine's boundaries and capabilities.
If you're scare of your bike, you'll settle for "I can ride this while not dropping him at a red light", and will never have the ambition of trying out something new, or puching the envelope (within reasonable limit, of course).

If one really wants get good, they'll have to befriend the metal between their legs, and go to some bike ed after getting their licence and/or first bike.

Anyone else ever ridden out there? I had a mate who told me you can be on a road in the middle of no-where, with no humanity as far as the eye can see, yet the second you go >10kph over the (low) speed limit, a copper will jump out from behind a fucking rock or something and smash you with a big fine.

Something to consider is that capacity isn't everything. A Triumph Bonnie or Ducati Scrambler can be over 800cc, but still a much more gentle and forgiving ride than an inline 4 600.

Where are you supposed to rent a 30 year old sports car?
>>
>>17658203
>going from a 250 to a 500

Oh boy
>>
>>17658237
i4 600s are tame as all fuck, race tuned as in an R6 or detuned as in an FZ6. People really overestimate how far you have to pull the throttle/downshift to start shitting yourself, and even then, it's really not that bad unless you are a complete idiot and do it smack dab in the middle of a corner or through city streets full of uncontrolled intersections and people not expecting 80mph traffic.

The riding position and steering lock of a 600cc sportbike are not conducive to developing low-speed skills though, and the best bike to start on is the one you can just ride without focusing hard on supporting your body with your core lest you lose all control of your hands and wrists after 30 minutes.
>>
>>17658239
im sure if you look it up you can do it, dunno man. I personally would feel a lot better in a car going through japan.

the japanese put more soul and passion into motorcycles, bicycles, and public transit than cars. their cars are mostly appliances and cheap knock offs for overseas customers who can't afford the car they actually want.

know why? because their tiny, cramped roads aren't good for anything with four wheels.

This. Tracer Rental fag here, I'm an all round petrol head, but I've been to Japan plenty of times and seen nothing but incredibly generic, civilian cars on the road. Nissan Cubes and copies/derivatives are pretty much all there is.

Years ago I looked at renting a car for a similar Hokkaido road trip, and could find nothing but painfully generic saloons with automatic transmissions at the top end of what the rental companies were offering

Wore out the tire on my 390, and I'm amazed how bad the mileage on on sport tires are compared to my old roadster. Any recommendations for a sport touring tire in 150/60 R17 or 140/70 R17? Looking at the S20 EVO (S21 not available in the size in the US) and the Pilot Road Radials. Mileage figures are all over the place so I have no idea how the two compare.

Are BMW boxer twins anything special?

Looking into getting a poor man's track bike. Should I get a newer fuel injected bike or go with carbs? I plan on beating the shit out of this thing
>>
So my poor dr650 is still idling at 3k+ rpm. I've sprayed almost an entire can of carb cleaner on the boot and vacuum lines, but it didn't do shit.

Now I'm out of carb cleaner. Should I take it back to the shop or remove carburetor myself to see how many just screws I can strip in one day? I've found a manual online and it doesn't look very complex.

Your opinion is very important for me, /dbt/.

I rode the 1000 and it just felt like absolute garbage. Throttle response was shit, I would blip the throttle for downshifts and had the wheel skip on a few because it couldn't rev match from a split second throttle blip.

Maybe that type of bike is just meant to be ridden differently, but consistently locking up the wheel and being forced to downshift with slow eases of the clutch made it the most miserable test ride of that day.

I did a lot of research before I bought this thing, so it hasn't revealed many surprises, but today I learned how holy fucking hot they get. Swapped out the 15t front sprocket for a 14t after riding to a buddy's house and holy jesus christ the entire bike was scorching hot. Most difficult part was removing bolts without getting 3rd degree burns accidentally touching something. Took a look through the manual and the "normal" operating temp when the bike is warm is like 220 degrees. Fans and shit have already kicked on for most other bikes at that point.

Now it cooking my balls idling at stoplights makes complete sense, I'm literally sitting on the surface of the sun.

That is a great fucking price. 2013 bikes can't be early 90s KLR650s and sell for one and a half grand all day long, man. They're actually worth money.
>>
>>17660379
Blue book says $4555 so you could probably talk him down a bit
>>
>>17660400
It's a discontinued memebike/"future classic". If it's selling with $1000 of bluebook it's a small miracle.
>>
>>17660379
I don't think msrp is quite that high, even for the stock 2017 models. I get what you are saying about the price compared to older bikes though.

Suzuki already is
The japs don't really know how to innovate.
Everything comes down to what they can put on a spec sheet at cost
>>
>>17660746
They're so bad at innovating that they're solely responsible for shaping the bike market as it is and drove ducati to draw inspiration from their designs.

Damn soulless zipperheads. Why are white people so much better than everyone else? We have the most soul, the most passion, and the most smartness.

>>
>>17660758
All innovation has been more or less back and forth between japan and germany, with the odd contribution from italy and americans and brits only ever selling fashion accessories that shape the market in their home countries and nowhere else. However, japanese and german dominance seeps through everywhere. You see more yamahas and F800s than harleys out there.

Great fucking luck today, on the way home from work I got a puncture. Looks like some kind of nail, but I left it in for half my commute, to save what air I could.
Anybody have tubed tyres here? Do you know if I need to buy an entirely new outer tire, or just a fresh innertube?
Is 90/100-18 a common enough size to just call Cycle Gear tomorrow morning? I'd like to have this done before tomorrow's shift, so I'm not struggling in the dark or wasting Saturday's valuable riding time.

And a major pain in the ass, not being able to get the tire today for my commute tomorrow. I may have to get up around 9:30 to do this.
>>
>>17661033
