Is this the best novel of the 21st century so far?
>>8352573
I thought it was pretty good, but I haven't read all of the books contained in your category OP
>>8352573
Probably
>>8352573
Nope. Against the Day is.
So I just found this really old bible along with two little notebooks describing how to treat various aliments through prayers and indigenous ritual. The bigger one is an unfinished book of theology of an unknown author, it also got these weird scribbles, any one know what these are? By the way this stuff is from Canada, and the Bible dates from 1629.
It's shorthand.
>>8352565
French.
The rest are scribbles.
French and Gregg shorthand. I told you this over on int.
Do you try find academic supplements to anything you're reading for personal enjoyment?

The redpill.
/pol/ and /r9k/ are good places to start
>>8352514
Don't. There are much better things you could waste your time on.
>>8352529
Such as?
I tend to read for about 45 minutes then put my book down when I want to read for 5 hours straight.
Don't put it down.
There was a meme post about how to become an avid reader. Somebody might have a screenshot of it.
>>8352481
Do an hour next time. Then an hour and fifteen minutes after that. Or switch between fiction and non-fiction.
What is objectively the best book of all time?
Crime and Punishment
>>8352443
Dante's Commedia.
>>8352445

>some bar owner in a shitty eastern european ex-commie country wants to have book shelf as a decoration piece
>books too wide and keep falling out
>he saws them literally in half
>spergs who see this and lose their shit badmouth his establishment and what he did to those poor books
its just paper jesus fuck grow the fuck up
>>8352408
>sperg who sees them sperging out, spergs out and makes a thread on 4chan about it

Later this week I'm going to write for a jazz magazine as a reporter of a 4 day long jazz festival. The plan is to write it in gonzo style. I have the accommodation and the booze sorted. Do you have any resources or tips for me about writing in gonzo?
Please don't
>>8352407
Well read some of hunter's books, analyse his style, his method, find inspiration in other styles of literature or in other authors of gonzo, don't forget that it's still a work of journalism, you have to expose informations, the subjective tone is here to help you make the reading easier, re-create an overall atmosphere, and to allow a more subjective analysis. Also don't forget that the film really focuses on drugs with Johnny Depp overacting as always, so... keep in mind to not do too much. Nothing much else to say...good luck.
How did you get into journalism ? I want to be journalist latter, I'm still a student rn
>>8352407
Make sure you don't write about jazz unless you know what you're talking about
Y'all white boys gonna wish a nigga happy birthday or not?

"I would have been 92 today"- ghost baldo
Even though im an idiot and had to re read a lot, A brief history of time was entertaining and a fascinating read. I'm looking for books like this one but on different topics
>>8352344
For cosmology:
>more stuff by Hawking, since you liked him - Black Holes and Baby Universes is a nice collection
>Cosmos by Carl Sagan
For biology
>The Selfish Gene by Dawkins, it's some of his earliest and best work (before he became Mr. Angry Twitter Rant)
>either Last Chance to See book, there's a Douglas Adams and a Stephen Fry version
For mathematics -
>Godel, Escher, Bach: The Eternal Golden Braid
>Everything and More: A Compact History of Infinity by DFW
For physics in general -
>Six Easy Pieces or anything by Feynman really
Chariots of Gods
>>8353097
Don't go for GEB. It makes its concepts way more convoluted than they need to be. If you were interested in those ideas you can just pick up I Am a Strange Loop where he just lays em out without all the puffery.
I do second Selfish Gene though, top notch book. I would recommend these:
A Brief History of Nearly Everything (history of the universe and the story of how we figured it out)
History of the World in Six Glasses (history of civilization)
The Better Angels of Our Nature (history of humanity)
The Selfish Gene (history of life)
The Story of Philosophy (history of thought)
What is the Bioshock of literature?
Infinite was much better in a literary sense.
>>8352257
What is the Bioshock Infinite of literature?
Bioshock was a child babby game for retards, wrapped in a decent-for-video-games story that nevertheless couldn't escape being a railroad because it was riveted to a shitty corridor shooter.
System Shock 1 and 2 were good games. You should stop playing fag games and play good ones.
>I don't read American Literature
Is there any other kind?
>>8352176
same and I don't read dead white male literature or even alive white female literature or even male literature. you should try it. gloria naylor is my shit
The problem with American literature is that Americans tend to champion mediocre books in order to act like they matter more on a global scale than they do literature-wise.
People try to put ridiculous corncobbers up with gods like James Joyce and then get offended when they get called out on it.
If Americans were less dishonest in evaluating their own culture people wouldn't feel so opposed to it.
What other good boards dedicated to literature do you browse /lit/?
litprom
Ba ba bump
None, /lit/ and my own good taste are all I need.
Give me one reason you haven't read everything on pic related yet.
Start with the Greeks? Ha!
Why would you start there when you aren't going to understand shit beyond prose?
>Start with the Greeks? Ha!
>>8352113
Don't get me wrong, you should certainly read the Greeks. You need to actually understand what you're reading though and if you don't have some homework done you won't benefit nearly as much
>>8352105
What the fuck is this?
What are some of the best books under the category of personal development? I just got done reading pic related and was wondering if anyone else has some recommendations of their own.
