why the fuck does this guy bring up pretty architecture all the time?
Unfulfilled white men have a weird obsession with buildings - you'll notice that behind every unfulfilled white man is a wish to either create, visit, or wonder at some kind of building, as if "place" is what gives value to a life.

Prolly cause he spends alot of time in buildings so that his bald spot doesn't burn.

hi jeremy1122
Looking for a book that will help me learn to write better essays. Nothing too deep, just the basics, please.
I really liked "drawing on the right side of the brain" and its approach.
Anything similar but for nonfiction writing? Pic related seems well-received, but also rather uninspiring.

Or are you referring to the section of the Norton website?

not tryna kill myself again. wasn't fun the last time
This is my personal "library" - books I either want to read or have already read.
What other books would /lit/ suggest?
I'm not interested in pseudo-intellectualism, I'm not interested in validating my ego; I don't give a crap if other people think the book is good or not because I have no intention of telling anyone about them. (Of course I am doing so here, but I'm anonymous and looking for more so whatever)
I like hard science fiction
politics too, but particularly right wing views and anything that could be described as "libertarian nationalist" - if you think that's fucking retarded then give me something to change my mind
philosophy is good, but shit that's actually comprehensible - art of motorcycle maintenance is alright, neitzsche is like "what the fuck is this guy smoking?" I'm particularly interested in anything that sets the foundation of or expands upon, western civilization
Technical books that help with practical things - e.g. programming
Books that are just plain fun to read
pastebin version so you can ctrl-f: http://pastebin.com/SVsyqRrb
you're gonna get through maybe 5 books on this list before you give up
by the time you've given up you will have spent more time planning what books to read than actually reading
This is a sad, sad post, and an even sadder image.
>>8420605
I've already read a bunch of them. I don't think I'll ever read them all, and I don't care if I do. I pick and choose whichever ones sound the most interesting at any particular point in time and then read them.
Who gives a fuck if I go through them all?
Who else /quittheirjobsoyoucouldstartwritingyournovelbutnowyouresixmonthsinandhavenoincomeandcantpayrentandisonly45pagesintotheirnovel/ here?
Honestly I tried writing it while I was working but I was working as a projectionist for a drive in theatre and it just ate up so much time (I was putting in close to 40 hours a week, and it was at night which is way worse than day shifts) and it was so fucking boring I never had anything to do. 99% of the time all I did was change the reels 5 times a night.
>couldn't handle <40 hours a week
kys my man you're just retarded
>>8420555
night shifts bro, way worse
>>8420551
Couldn't you have written in the projection room if there was really that little to do? Also I quit my last job and wrote a book after, but I didn't quit to write it, it was just what I decided to do after quitting.
I originally posted something on this over on /tv/ but since that board is nothing but a meme horrorshow (a real shame for people that actually like film), I thought that I would bring it over here to /lit/ since it is based off of a novel to begin with and I actually mostly spend my time on /lit/ anyways.
So, I just finished the painted veil for the first time last night. It was spectacular. I had heard really good things about it a couple of years ago (Girl I was talking to said it was her favorite film) but I had never really gotten around to actually watching it.
Well, now I did and I don't regret it. In fact it is probably one of my new favorite movies and I wish that I could erase my memories of it so I could enjoy it anew once again.
10/10 Edward was great.
What do you guys think about this movie?
To tie it back to /lit/, has anybody here read the book and what did you think about it? from what I gather the book is much more about Kitty's transformation as a person and less of the hollywood crap. Also, I know... I know... the book is always better...
>>8420550
read and watched 10 years ago.
go away
>>8420619
And?... what did you think about the book and film? Compare and contrast the two?
Also, I'd rather not. This is a forum for literature after all... If that is something you'd rather not discuss then perhaps it is you that should depart.

you admitted you started this thread on /tv/
kill yourself.
Can somebody recommend me some books based off my intrest.
I like 'stoner' for it's simplicity and dark and sad undertones.
>>8420546
I also like 'crying' for it's humour and style, I've read no other 'pynchon' novels, but would like to pick up 'Mason & Dixon'. "Crying's" themes I'm very interested in.
>>8420553
Also, this I just enjoy generally.
I also enjoy "The Mezzanine" & thought about reading something by 'steckensha? Lam' like "solaris".

Is there any nonfiction on the vast amount of men today living without sex or romance?
>>8420285
>vast
I don't know about that. But check out Houllebecque.
also my diary hehe xd
>>8420285
if not having sex is a result of your will, pic related might be a good starting point.
Well, OP, it depends on the origin of the abstinence, of course.
Are men living without sex because they are faithful Christians, and Christ, though Saint Paul and others, pretty clearly forbids sex before marriage?
Or are they living without sex because they desperately want to have sex, but can't because they're pathetic sad fucks, so they just shut themselves in their rooms and masturbate?
The two are very different things, and deserve different responses.
What is some Jeff Mangum-core literature?

I know /lit/ isn't my personal army, but I'm a non-native English speaker and I'm writing a paper on Christina Rossetti and looking for a definition.
How would you guys define the term 'sexual sacrifice'?
Is it the act of giving up sex (i.e. becoming a nun), or having unwanted sex (i.e. prostitution)?
>>8420115
Sexual sacrifice is when you stay a virgin for life to gain wizard powers. Through the offering of sex to the NEET gods, a higher state of existence is achieved.
>>8420115
i dont know the context but id say the first one
>>8420124
>>8420126
I'm meant to be comparing Rossetti's Convent Threshold and George Bernard Shaw's problem play Mrs Warren's profession. The essay title asks to compare the way 'sexual sacrifice' is shown.
Obviously one is about repenting the sins of sex outside marriage, one is about the morals of prostitution. When I first read 'sexual sacrifice' I first thought of prostitution but I don't know if thats the right way to go about it.
What do you listen to while you write?
What type of music inspires you to "take flight?"
>>8420111
really depends on what I'm writing mate.
If I'm writing a research paper, albums like the king of limbs really help me focus.
If I'm writing something in my journal I usually listen to Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash
If I'm trying to be extremely deep and philosophical in my writing then my favorite album is soundtracks for the blind
>>8420111
nothing with much of a beat will work, but this is good writing music.
