What did /lit/ think of S? Also, what's your take on this form of interactive story telling in general? They did the same thing with the New York Survival Guide that goes with The Division.
Bump
Haven't read either of those but I'm slightly intrigued

From a neutral opinion on YA fiction, can someone explain to me why it is hated so much on /lit/?
Go away, girl.
Because no one here got laid in Highschool.
>>8416403
because it's poorly written and meant for teenagers, it's the pop punk of literature
What is a book that will make me believe in love?
I wish to desire love and feel more accepting of affection after reading it.
>>8416224
war and peace
then it'll crush you and make you hate everything
>>8416224
>believe in love?
Start with the Greeks
Sappho
And how you laugh your charming laugh. Why it
makes my heart flutter within my breast
I'm about to read Ulysses without any supplementary material. You mad?
Why would you read something so obtuse if you didn't care about understanding it?
You're not really robbing anyone of satisfaction save yourself.
Get ready to waste some hours reading something you won't understand
Dont listen to em OP i often wish id just done it raw the first time.
Give it hell
Thoughts on this book?
I liked it, it had really good parts, but after reading four other novels by him, I think that this one didn't reach its full potential, and it wasn't as intense and satisfying as Dick's other works. And not because it lacked hallucinogenics on mars or endless reality crushes. Still a great book though.
One of my favourite novels
There was no point to it. Nothing happens
the classic hugo is high as ass
What does /lit/ think about this one?
I loved Crime and Punishment even though I'm generally a lazy ass fucker when it comes to long books. Is this one worth it as well?

This is one of the most beautiful books ive ever read. Every part is connected with overs creating a whole universe with its own laws. If you read it really carefully and analytically then the ending will make you cry from the beauty of words. The length of a book doesnt matter if its that good. When ive done reading it , i wanted more but....
>>8416137
Ugh, I have to read other things to prepare for reading it? Dropped
Post yours /lit/

How do you say "shrugged" in latin?
>>8416077

>>8416083
Don't; OP's obviously talking about a particular 3rd person singular masculine subject
>>8416083
third
Is this an accurate summary of Eastern and Western philosophies?
>>8416062
definitely
>>8416062
It's an accurate representation of the average westerner's drawing skills.
>>8416062
It's not necessarily an accurate representation of Eastern and Western philosophies, but a sweeping generalization/approximation of the differences between the two.
How the fuck is subvocalizing a thing? Just shut your damn mouth you oaf.
>>8416003
Patricians don't subvocalize, they vocalize.
>>8416003
Stop posting my face on 4chan you dumbshit.
Why does it matter and why would care
Any other books out there like The Spy Who Came in From the Cold? Especially ones not written by Le Carré
>>8415984
Get into Graham Greene and Deighton.

About 100 or so pages out of Harlot's Ghost. The other 1000 pages deal with other matters.
Write a story about some fish.
There was a fish who was born with some of his scales all shiny and glittering.
He was proud of them because they looked nice and they made him special and different from the other fish.
But guess what, being different is wrong, and you have no right to ever feel better than the common working class pleb!
So he went and ripped out his shiny scales and handed them to all his commie fish friends so they could all be equal
Marx was right! Size the means of production now!
Read it to your children as you remind them not to try too hard in school because being superior to the stupid kids is wrong.
There was a fish who was born with no special traits.
He had become trapped in a glass bowl, which he made his home. You could look through of the glass, but you could not effect the outside world. However, if you were brave, you could jump through the water surface for a chance to escape into the world.
but this fish was a coward so he wasted his life on this fucking website and died a virgin the end
>>8415971
One fish turned to the other and said "this is whater"
"dude WATER lmao" said the other fish unironically
is reading this before Kant a bad idea?
>>8415914

ITT: Books that have had a lasting and obvious direct impact, positive or negative.
>got raped 5 years ago
>got really fucked up from it but got therapy basically right away b/c I didn't want to postpone it for years and end up a suicidal alcoholic with repression issues and 3 estranged kids at 50 like every fucker else
>still anxious & flashbacks etc kind of creep up on me now and then but nowhere near as bad as it used to be
>starting to not be depressed
>can even have orgasmic sex without it bothering me now, live with partner etc
>Read a lot, always have, currently reading everything Irvine Welsh has ever written
>He writes about Scottish white trash which is gold b/c I am Scottish white trash
>Finished Malibou Stork Nightmares last week
>Near end of the book there's a rape scene
>Spent enough time on the internet that rape images/scenes haven't affected me for many years, and never really bothered me after the incident either
>This one tho
>Making me feel queasy as I'm reading but am immersed in the story & can't put it down
>scene ends & I'm a bit rattled but essentially fine enough to continue reading
>Irvine Welsh is exceptional
>Court scene a little later
>Trying to avoid spoilers but every single sentence made my guts jangle, start crying silently, so fucking angry, memories flooding back
>Can't put the fucking book down, not even temporarily to gain composure, care too much about everything in it
>All dialogue is in Scots which makes everything hit home 10x harder
>A few lines in the story were said to me (or about me) word-for-word, being Scottish this basically never happens in media
>Got pretty emotional, a lot got kicked up
>Imagery of malibou storks eating flamingos throughout the book/protag gets nightmares etc, found that image especially powerful.
>Gets stuck in head, keep thinking about it.
>Book was really pretty fantastic but has literally given me malibou fucking stork nightmares
>Slept on couch 4 times, told bf I'm just too hot b/c summer but he's not an idiot
>Yet to fap or have sex, no desire whatsoever only rage
>I hallucinate when I get low & have felt feathers on me a few times
>I know it'll pass and I'll be fine in maybe a week and so does my boyfriend but fucking hell.
TL;DR Malibou Stork Nightmares induced a minor depressive episode.
I wanna know if anything like this actually happens to other people or if I'm a giant faggot.
I just want to say this is Welsh's best book next to Glue and Bedroom Secrets of Master Chefs
