Why there is no philosophy in elementary school? Its logical and it teach critical thinking and morality
>le logic and critical thinking
>>8518505
How is theology not logical
>>8518500
That gets put into English class.
What does /lit/ think this book is mainly about?
>>8518472
Meursault, the main character
>>8518472
human existence
>>8518478
That's not saying much.
Do I need a math degree to enjoy it?
>>8518454
No, just a lobootomy.
>>8518454
no. its a book.
No. You probably won't totally understand Gödel's Incompleteness Theorem after reading, but Gödel numbering is incredibly bizarre and you still understand the rest of it. You should read it.
Alright /lit/ I have $9.50 left in my gift card and I want to buy 1 maybe 2 books on Amazon. What should I buy?
I tend to read about Psychology, memory, influence, "how we learn", "why we do things".
Everything is fair game but I know that the go to nonresponse of many is "we don't even know what your interests are".

If you want to read something that will blow your mind pick up David Wilcock's new book The Ascension Mysteries or start in the beginning with The Source Field Investigations. HOLY FUCK COOL SHIT
What is the meaning of meaning?
>>8518405
what do you mean by this?
Its extension: The set of all meanings, comprising of sets (extensions of predicates and relation symbols) and individuals (extensions of names and 0-ary function symbols).
>>8518409
Why do we speak of meaning so much like with 'meaning of life', why is it important, why can't we do without it? What is its meaning, content, deeper definition?
Would the Greeks have approved of starting with the Greeks?
Holy...I want more

Is this you, /lit/?

>the entire opening paragraph is one run-on sentence
I might be, but at least I'm smart enough not to waste any more time on this trash.
I think Taleb is right to some extent, even if his polemics sometimes overshoot on how badly overblown the worth of degrees and desgree-holders is today.
At least the futurists and technocracy folks from the 60's didn't realize their vision - otherwise the flaw of using academic studies and non-exhaustive statistics (in a capitalists driven context) would have been more fatal.
>The IYI pathologizes others for doing things he doesn’t understand without ever realizing it is his understanding that may be limited. He thinks people should act according to their best interests and he knows their interests, particularly if they are “red necks” or English non-crisp-vowel class who voted for Brexit. When Plebeians do something that makes sense to them, but not to him, the IYI uses the term “uneducated”. What we generally call participation in the political process, he calls by two distinct designations: “democracy” when it fits the IYI, and “populism” when the plebeians dare voting in a way that contradicts his preferences. While rich people believe in one tax dollar one vote, more humanistic ones in one man one vote, Monsanto in one lobbyist one vote, the IYI believes in one Ivy League degree one-vote, with some equivalence for foreign elite schools, and PhDs as these are needed in the club.
I fear I agree. But where is the solution?
While I see some of my friends tend more and more to the right, because of the happenings Europe - I want to refrain from doing so and the only thing that's left to complain for my about is the unregulated capitalist system.
Since we'll keep capitalism, no matter what, the only marriage that can (and will) happen is a drift into fascism, and I mean that in a potentially (but very most likely not) positive economic sense alla

Positive for some, at least.
What does literature do better than other modes of expression, such as film, perhaps? What does it do worse?
it's better for the transmission of thoughts
it's worse for transmission of sounds and images
>>8518152
What about the smellz? Why are they so underappreciated?
The book hangover is a real thing, whereas film only alters your mood and not necessarily your way of thinking, and wears off much faster.
okay I am pissed.
Just logged into audible after seeing a post on lit about it only to discover I have 6 unused credits and a membership sub.
I THOUGHT I FUCKING CANCELED IT!
This has happened twice now, anyway, what do I use with the remaining 5 credits? I'm getting "think and grow rich", what else?
>>8518130
This is gonna sound like gypsy shit, but depending on which subscription you have (one or two credits a month), you can call them and they'll refund your last month's credit(s). But the best thing to do is spend the credits you can get refunded (all of them but the ones from the most recent monthly charge), and then call them up, and they give you a refund for the one or two credits (depending on your sub), then you're down to zero credits, and you cancel your account. Viola. You have a few more audiobooks and got a bit of money back. I've done it once before. Same situation as you. The customer service is very good from my experience. It won't be more than five minutes after you're connected with someone. Good luck.

>Viola
>>8518214
Yeah, sorry bout that.

What is the best English translation of The Divine Comedy?
>>8518056
There is a chart around that says "v1.0 incomplete" or something like that. I've never seen a revised version. I've been wondering too, because there are more translations than on that chart. At least for Homer there are websites dedicated to this.
Oh and I don't have the chart right now, sorry.
