Hey /k/! After tons and tons of research I've decided to get myself a Remington 700 SPS Varmint in .308 as a first rifle. Im gonna use it to target shoot out on BLM land, between 100-500 yards for starters, probably. The rifle itself is gonna be about $700. I have about $1500 to burn. Questions...
>what kinda scope and scope rings should I get for it? I want something with mil-dots, I think. I don't like duplex.
>how can I get into reloading/making my own handloads? How much does this cost to get started?
>is .308 a decent hunting round?
>later on, I want an AR-10. Do proper loads for the AR-10 differ from loads for the Rem 700?
Ooh, also,
>what exactly is bedding and what are some other ways to accurize a 700
>can I shoot 7.62x51 NATO out of a .308

>After tons and tons of research
>Remington 700 SPS
research some more and get a tikka.

Are you going to mind spending 2x the cost on ammo compared to 5.56x45 ?
Anyone have any informed opinions about the RAS47? LGS has a rack of them and I'm thinking about getting one to get into the AK game. Thoughts?
Get a WASR.

>An October 27, 2015, press report states: Chinese military watchers everywhere have another clear sign that China is building its first indigenous aircraft carrier, the Type 001A [aircraft carrier with hull number] "17". The hull in the Dalian Shipyard, with its high number of watertight bulkheads and compartments, has long been the subject of speculation due to its resilient construction and the prominent "no photography" signs around its drydock.
>In photos that appeared on Oct 24, the shipyard installed a module on top of the hull, with a clear 7.5 meter high, 27 meter across room, which is almost certainly a hangar for aircraft. [See Figure 6.] The new photos provide further visual evidence in the open source domain that leave little to debate that China's aircraft carrier program is moving forward. Aircraft carrier number "17" is likely to be 65,000 to 70,000 tons in displacement, have forward located ski-jump to launch fighters, and carry about 36-48 aircraft, a combination of J-15 Flying Shark fighters and Z-8/Z-18 helicopters.
>That's similar in size to [aircraft carrier hull number] "16"[, the] Liaoning, China's Soviet designed and built aircraft carrier or newer programs like Britain's HMS Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carrier presently under construction. "17" will feature automation to reduce crew size, increased fuel and ammunition storage, and a smaller island superstructure, making it far more capable than the Liaoning.
>>28680014
>If all goes to plan, "17" will be launched in the second half of 2016. At this stage, it would receive its name, most likely the name of a Chinese province or national level municipality. It would likely to be commissioned in 2019, thus doubling China's aircraft carrier capacity for theaters from the First Island Chain all the away to Africa and Latin America. As the PLAN gains more naval aviation experience from the Liaoning and "17", its fleet will then move on to more capable future aircraft carriers, like the planned catapult-equipped Type 002 and nuclear power Type 003.7

I honestly didn't think they would be this far ahead any guesses how congress and the navy will react?
Also Chinese military general I guess.

>The Liaoning is shit and their next ship is slightly less shit, maybe their future vessels won't be shit
What an amazing read.
Once they have a decent carrier fleet there is no doubt they will be capable of taking on the US conventionally.
Why does everyone defend their own guns so much?
For example:
Typical /k/ poster, owns a Springfield. "Man this grip safety is so wonderful, it's the best safety on the market, etc..."
Then example /k/ poster sells the Springfield years later. "Oh man, Springfield safeties suck, I used to own one"
It's as if you all have a refusal to admit buyers remorse.
>>28679918
Because admitting that you bought shit requires admitting that you made a mistake and may be an idiot.
That said, I regret two Mausers, an Enfield, a Schmidt-Rubin, a 105CTi II, and at least two Mosin Nagants. The SKS is okay.
>>28679918
People want to defend thier choices. Same with cars and consoles. Though don't see a lot of people defending the xdm
I regret buying a 308 vepr I should have saved up and bought a scar 17
What appeals to you in terms of gun aesthetics, /k/?
Also what doesn't appeal to you/totally puts you off?
Something's weird about this Thompson, and it's not the jaggies.
As for me, I really like things that look utilitarian to a fault.
This gets me rock hard

are there any guns significantly more reliable than a glock? At any price?
Canik tp9sfx
>>28679033
Literally everything that's not a race gun 1911.
Seriously man, Glocks aren't special in terms of reliability.
If we really want to bitch, a Makarov takes everything a Glock does and goes further.

This is basically Jin-Roh irl, what do you think about the idea of heavy troops equipped specifically to breach and assault confined urban structures in modern megalopolis? Does it make any sense dedicating entire regiments for something that can be normally done by SF?
Why would you need a whole squad? This guy pretty much cleared a whole skyscraper with just a rookie at his side.
>>28679032
I've got one of the WW2 armour sets
Manlet size, crappy steel, would only stop super low velocity frag, certainly not a round from any firearm - conclusion - they used to to protect themselves from their own demo charges...

Easy. COUNTER-terrorists
Post your carry gun, holster. Belt etc. Blog post about your gun, holster, belt and disagree with the opinions of other /k/ommandos.
Pic related, summer and winter.
>>28678526
I guess day/k/are doesn't carry at all, I guess Ill try again tonight.
>>28678600
The people that carry are out carrying right now, silly.
I either carry a Walther PPK/S in a DeSantis holster AIWB, or MP Shield in 9mm with extended mag in a kydex AIWB.
I also own a Concealment Solutions Black Mamba for the shield. Super comfortable but I prefer AIWB. Shield is always carried with a spare mag in a kydex iwb holster.
Use a 5.11 belt that I got with the black friday sale.

Instead of complaining about how I'll never make it to one of these things, who here lives in the Deep South and wants to organize a /k/ meetup? I'm from Mississippi myself. Always thought we should establish a gulf coast chapter of nuggetfest. We of all people love shooting guns in the woods the most.
>>28678281
GA is having a meetup in March. There is an active thread for it now.
Why don't you just make a trip up to nuggetfest? Where were you for MWNF?
interested to see the condition of Nuggetfest road. Wonder how much snow is out there right now. The blizzard missed the area correct?
How are german AR-15s in comparison to american ones? I imagine low tolerances might make them more prone to malfunction, but then it could be the other way around.
I like how you won't even be able to see the red dot on that

looks like it would co witness just fine.....

Interested too, never thought about that before.
Here, have some:
So my girlfriend wants to get into hunting with me, and wants a rifle, due to law it cant be semi auto, however it should be an intermediate caliber
Heres the kicker, shes a weak shit (lol dump her she cant oper8 at peak performance) so does anyone know if there is a bolt action on the market with an extremely light to cock bolt? I like 99% of us dont have the issue so i never considered it on my rifles
However whenever she shoots a bolt gun i usually end up loading it for her and i really dont like that
Was thinking a 527c in x39 originally until i thought about this issue
>>28677792
Savage axis in .270
>>28677792
What about a pump-action or lever-action rifle?
If she's recoil shy they're available in .223, .357 (which does decently from a rifle barrel), and I'm sure a number of other medium sized chamberings.
>>28677792
Get her a youth model
Obsolete weapons still/brought back into service today.
Yemen restored its S-75 Dvinda/SA-2 Guidline missile system and took down a UAV.
South Sudan has been setting up S-125/SA-3 Goa missile systems.

>>28677723
SA-2's are hardly "obsolete".
Who's UAV?
>>28677733
The Houthis fired it, so presumably a Saudi UAV.
>>28677729
They certainly are by today's standards, doesn't make them any less effective against certain targets.
