>It appears that the last active duty component of the U.S. Military has retired the tried and true 1911. In an article by the Marine Corps Times, Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC), has officially announced that it is withdrawing the .45 ACP Colt Rail Guns (M45 MEUSOC 1911)from service while completely switching to 9x19mm Glock 19s

>"We put our money behind the 9mm round fired by an extremely well-trained marksman carrying a Glock 19,” Mannweiler told Marine Corps Times.

>“Based on lessons learned in our operations, we also took into consideration how well a round could penetrate objects of varying densities and in different environmental conditions,” Mannweiler said. “We concluded that a 9mm round suited our needs.”

Do any of you put optics on your mosin/enfield/mauser/whatever? Do you actually sharpen their bayonets?

I really don't care when somebody does something that's completely reversible, or even when a rifle is sporterized tastefully, but it irks me when an idiot goes full bubba and fucks the rifle up permanently and without reason. Bonus points for when bubba tries to sell his shitheap for "as much as I put into it."

>inb4 lol it's a just a nugget they made a goybillion of them
people used to say the same thing about German Mausers, and look where we are now. Conversely, your shitty bubba'd rifle will never be worth anything. The going rate for antique bubba'd Mausers with muh Nazi stamps right now seems to be $200, and even that is pretty generous.

>Do you actually sharpen their bayonets?
I like to keep the factory edge on mine, though I do have a Type 1 AK bayonet with a sharpened edge. Only the point is supposed to be sharp on those things, faggots.

Sup /k/

Recently my SD40 was stolen (partly because of my own stupidity) from my home.

I bought a used pic related to replace it. I figured I'd get something hammer fired instead of buying basically the same gun.

I'm commifornian so I'm waiting to pick it up. Does anyone have experience with these polymer framed sigs and the sp2022 in particular? Do you like it? Good and bad experiences? Thanks in advance

Could you chaps help educate a nogunz ameritard like me on something?

Could you use gasoline as an alternative to gun powder? Sort of like in an internal combustion engine, except instead of a spark plug to ignite the gas in the combustion chamber to push the piston down, you would use the sparking from the firing pin hitting the primer to push the bullet out? As long as there was some air in the cartridge for the gas to ignite (and maybe enough gunpowder for a small explosion to help ignite it), could that not propel a small caliber round in the same way it pushes an engine-piston down?

Or would the amount of gasoline needed to send the bullet out the barrel be more than what would be practical, or the round too small/lightweight to fly right?

I'm guessing there's a legit reason why it wouldn't work (since the world militaries who have been experimenting with guns for hundreds of years aren't using it), but I'm just curious.

>pic unrelated

in gunpowder the sulfur and charcoal act as fuels, and the saltpeter is an oxidizer.

gasoline needs the other part of a redox reaction (oxygen), and is also not stable over long periods of time
>>
>>31566315
That makes sense.

However, at the risk of making myself sound worse, ignoring the lack of long-term stability, as long as there was some oxygen in the cartridge (i.e. the round was not completely filled), would that not be enough to, at a minimum, ignite the gas?

Though I could understand how it wouldn't have the force necessary to be effective.
>>
>>31566299
Technically yes, it could be done, but it could not be practical. Nitrocellulose is the primary propellant used (with nitroglycerin in double base powders and a bit of RDX in triple base) because it is self oxidizing. Gasoline is not, it's thermobaric, although it is more energetic per gram, you have to introduce 14.7g (12 L at STP) of air per gram of gasoline to get efficient combustion. The volume of air required differs based on temperature, humidity, and elevation which is why we don't use carburetors any more.

Poorfag here. I want a handgun within the 300-500 dollar range. I really like the idea of a surplus gun too. Something with some history behind it would be awesome. The question is, should I go with a surplus Browning Hi Power surplus or a Beretta 92s? I want something I can take to the range as much as possible. Doesn't have to be an ideal HD weapon as I live a few blocks from a police station. I'm more looking for something I can practice with and maybe polish up to look nice.

I was going to wait until I got a job to make this purchase but I've noticed that the price of these guns, and guns in general, just keeps skyrocketing and it's only going to get worse right before (and likely after) the election.

Hmmm...So it looks I can't buy the Hi Power knockoffs anywhere but Gunbroker now. They seem to have hit the 400 dollar range. Honestly if they are good shooters that's worth it, but I'm wondering if I should settle for a 300 dollar Beretta 92s instead. the one thing I hate is that damn magazine catch at the bottom of the grip.
>>
Also it looks like the FN Hi-Powers are listed in "Fair" condition. Will this be a problem? what is your experience with buying guns in "fair" condition?
>>
Right now i'm leaning toward the Beretta. I fired my friends M9 and loved it. If I can get something similar, even if it's not quite as good, I'll be happy.

https://www.classicfirearms.com/beretta-9mm-semi-auto-surplus-g-vg

This is about the best deal I can find on any handgun honestly. Let me know if you think otherwise.

I'd prefer a Hi Power because of the Mag Release placement but I've never shot one before and the "Fair" condition just scares me a bit.

It sure feels wierd buying a gun while unemployed but I got 3 grand in my savings account, I think I'll be fine. Just don't want these supplies to dry up

Nothing really wrong with them as a plinker, but why the fuck would any one consider them so special that everyone should own one? It's not an AR. Every neurotypical American should own an AR-15.

Hey guys I was wondering if you're carrying you want to be able to grab and shoot ASAP right? So I always thought a revolver would be best so you don't have to rack it. Then I remembered I think cops keep one in the chamber.

If using a semi auto do you keep one in the barrel and keep just the safety on? How is that safe to carry like that? I could see if it has a hammer like a beretta and just keeping the hammer on safety, but if theres just a switch wouldnt you worry it could become set to fire and the trigger go off? Either shoot yourself or someone else.

I dunno if you're stupid or this is some sort of bizarre troll

A double action semi isn't going to "go off" unless you pull the trigger. Don't be a cop, don't pull the trigger when you take out the gun

Easy

I carry my Glock 26 sitting on G waiting on O. with the patented Safe Action Trigger, it is always safe, and always ready.
>>
Not OP, but I just got my CCW permit and I'm terrified of my trigger catching the holster or me banging it off of something within the holster and the gun discharging. Is this ridiculous?

Long live Glock.

Delta, Green Berets, SEALs and now MARSOC all now use the Glock.

It's good but there's better. The only reason they're going with Glock is because they have a longer track record than the newer striker guns.

Why would anyone be mad about a 105 year old design not being issued in a modern military?

Why would anyone argue against volume of fire being more important than negligible gains in kinetic energy?
