>Why do you guys like it so much?

There are a vast, vast multitude of reasons, my dude. Honestly, it's because they are by so far-and-above...different. They were somehow both the underdogs and the elite of their conflict, we are inspired by their efficiency, and many of us, in a way, are able to see ourselves in them.

>Aesthetic as fuck uniforms (both field and parade)
>Booty shorts
>FN FAL and MAG58s are both reliable, popular weapons that are still used today.

>Many of the soldiers were quite young - 18,19,20 and early 20s. That's (I assume) the age range of many of the users on /k/...When you see one of the photos of the teen soldiers, cam paint on their face and legs, donning a machine gun almost as big as themselves, somehow cracking a smile...You relate with it. You realise that these guys are more like you than most photos of soldiers that you see from other conflicts.

>We have seen combat in many different types of terrain. Jungle, mountains, desert of course. But the Bush War intrigues many due to just how unique the combat environment was. Dry, arid bushland and vast swaths of grasslands mixed in with shrubbery and such for the enemy to hide in and escape into.

I'll cont.

>Were very much the underdogs. Aside from some fledgling support from South Africa, Rhodesia's military was very much left to its vices and relied upon what stores were left from the British, what they could produce domestically with the little materials and non-existent weapons producing knowledge, and what they could capture from the enemy.

>Even with their inherit disadvantage. The Rhodies kicked the shit out of their oppositions, which received a great deal of arms and support from just about every neighbouring country and big players like China and the SU, neighbours going so far as letting the rebels launch attacks from their territory (See Green Leader raid for an occasion where Rhodesia gave a big "Fuck you" to Zambia and bombed a rebel camp within their borders)

>The Rhodesian military units had excellent esprit de corps and were hyperefficient. The rookies were taught quickly by the experienced guys how to improvise and be an excellent fighter in the bush. This sharing of experience and improvisation is something western armies have largely dropped, which is sad to see.

will cont one more.

cont. 2 - This is turning into more of a history lesson, I'll go back to why /k/ like 'em so much.

>Fireforce and other tactics that proved that guerrilla warfare could be defeated, by taking the fight to the enemy rather than being on the defensive or being aggressive only through foot patrols (Kinda like Vietnam) - /k/, rightly so, is a big fan of the Rhodie tactics. They are the epitome of quick, clever and ferocious attacks being brought in with overwhelming force against the enemy.

>/k/ has a great deal of respect for the military of Rhodesia, which only lost because the nation's politicians eventually gave in to the rebels (seen sort've like the 'stab in the back' idea pushed by the NSDAP)

>Rhodesia provides /k/ with a great study point of cold war-era weapons, tactics and ideals being pushed to the extreme. It's interesting to see this outside of Vietnam.

>Combat in Rhodesia is massively different to what Africa had seen to that date, or has seen since, as a relatively modern and well-led army fought against the dindus, rather than two armies just zerg rushing each other and shooting the sand, like you see now.
I'll try to sum it up as best I can. /k/ loves Rhodesia because it represents entirely different world that we are somehow able to relate to. It is both exotic and painfully familiar to us. We are inspired by the acts of men and boys that are our age or even younger, who under normal circumstances would have been just like us, living their lives in relative comfort. Most of all, the conflict just ended. The people that fought in it just disappeared. Thousands of soldiers fought yet only a few accounts are out there. Everyone (In Australia, at least) sort've knows someone who knows someone who fought in the war. The veterans are quiet, humble and seldom speak about the conflict they fought in, much less the country they fought for. It very much has the same sense of mystery and adventure as the French Foreign Legion has always had.

Well Europeans tend to be naturally larger and stronger than Asians, but it's likely that the Samurai would have had better nutrition since its so much further in the future.

As for weapons and armor, if it's just the people in your pic, then the Samurai would win handily since the Celt is in pajamas with a short sword. It's likely that in real life however, they would have had more comparable armor.

Likely a wash.

With this type of short stroke piston setup the piston could be made significantly thinner and therefore lighter because it isn't pushing but actually pulling.

Has this kind of system ever been used in any gun? If not then why not?

Because unless you made the pins out of an exotic and expensive alloy they'd shear on the first shot.

And if you did make them out of an exotic and expensive alloy they'd shear on the 50th or 500th shot.

And you want your reciprocating mass (the piston head) as far back as possible, not as far forward as possible like in your design, and the chief complaint with pistons is the fuckhuge and heavy gas block (which your design makes even bigger and heavier) at the end of the rifle.

>Because unless you made the pins out of an exotic and expensive alloy they'd shear on the first shot.

My picture is not in scale, though i'll admit that they would have to be somewhat thicker than they are in my picture.

>And you want your reciprocating mass (the piston head) as far back as possible, not as far forward as possible like in your design

The piston head is moved forwards like 3 centimeters in my picture, not a relevant length.

>(which your design makes even bigger and heavier)

In my edited picture the gas block is pretty much the exact same size as in the original.
>>
>>33653038
>though I'll admit they would have to be somewhat thicker than they are in my picture
Well considering your black pin is already ~90% the total diameter of your piston rod, you're pretty much up shit creek unless you make the piston rod bigger (and thus heavier and thus defeating the whole premise of "could be made significantly thinner")
>over an inch on something only a handful of inches long
>not a relevant length
Nigger that's huge. You're talking 1/10th to 1/8th the length of the piston system longer.
>In my edited picture the gas block is pretty much the exact same size as in the original.
Because you omitted the regulator, which is 100% required to function. Add it back in and you've doubled its size.

>we move on to draw+point shoot drills
>while everybody else is holstering I hear a POP to the right of me
>that's weird, I thought everybody was done shooting
>see the glock guy to the right of me completely fucking frozen, wide-eyed
>instructor calls cease fire

>he was leaning forward when it happened so all he got was a hole in his jeans
>mfw this guy actually managed to fail a ccw class

Why are trigger safeties a thing, again? I always thought they were a shitty meme, get an awkwardly shaped and uncomfortable SAFEâ„¢ trigger that isn't any safer than a plain trigger but somehow makes you feel better.

To see this shit happen irl though, holy shit.

>these are the same fuckers that denounce the gadget scd

Then again, the 43 gadget isn't out yet and it doesn't replace proper reholstering/gun safety.

This is why the fuck I carry DA/SA and use a safe reholstering trchnoque so shit like that is nigh impossible
>>
>>33649610

Just curious, in what condition do you carry your DA/SA pistol? Chambered round, DA-mode? Any risk of a snagged hammer going off from half-cock?
>>
>>33649610
>gadget scd
What's that?

Also, that's why I love DA/SA for carry too (though I usually carry a striker fired just because my beretta is hard to conceal during the summer months). You can keep your thumb behind the hammer when you holster and instantly know if something snags.

>>33649640
Not that guy but I personally carry my DA/SA chambered, hammer down.
>snagged hammer going off from half-cock?
Why would you leave your gun at half-cock?

I need some advice /k/ I bought expensive electronic earplugs for $2,600 (protection/self-defence is important after all) in case I have to protect myself during a home invasion or a similar scenario. My question is, is this enough to surely protect my hearing if I'm forced to use my gun or would I have to combine it with electronic earmuffs as well?

You'd have been better off with a suppressor and it would've been far cheaper AND it would've been faster AND it would always be with the gun.
