A lot of it is systemic. Shit like EO and SAPR running the place and PT tests ruining careers is way beyond any of our levels, but don't let that discourage you.
A good supervisor can make or break someone's time in. You have the ability to shield your troops from a lot of shit, and have their back when things don't go quite right.

Ear surgery you probably shouldn't try to cover up since they'll look in your ears and do the hearing test. Depends on how bad it is but many jobs only needs you to have a 2 on your hearing test. I met a couple of people at meps who had ear surgery waivers from when they were kids. Didn't seem like a big deal.

One tip if you have mild scoliosis is that when doing the test to reach for your toes then put your thumbs together to make sure your hands are level so they don't think you have a bad case of it.

Don't know if they care about papules, I guess talk to the doctor when you get there.

Kind of want to join the army for military experience and to instill some discipline in myself. Father did it, grandfather did it, great grandfather probably did it.

Plan on joining the RCMP either after that or just not going into the army and heading straight to the RCMP when eligible.

Anyone here a fucking leaf in the army? Think it's worth it just for the experience? How'd you rate our underfunded military? Thanks.

>Germany, last year

>got months to spare
>read a lot of Conscription diaries from the 90s and early 2000s
>hmm, lets go BUNDESWEHR
>sign up for voluntary conscription, 7 months service minimum
>perfectly fits into my time plan, lets do it
>starts at 1st of Feb, well alrighty
This was 2 months and 16 days ago

Boot camp is over and man, am I disappointed.
>soldiers have a 41 hour workweek since two years ago because of EU stuff, including boots
>this means "real service" is between 0700 and 1700 every day
>get posted 650km away from home
>German soldiers get the weekends off anyway and they don't WANT you in the barracks on the weekend, so I get to ride the train home for 6 hours on Friday and back to the barracks on Sunday again

Because of limited time due to the 41 hour week, we:
>get very little mandatory PE, the instructors literally told us to get fit in our "free" time because if they'd try to force it into the day plan they wouldn't have time to teach us anything relevant like how2gun
>dimwits, motivationless bastards and scrubs don't actually get punished because punishments would cause the service time per day to go longer, which leads to the next point
>HAVE to get any extra time we do (such as 24 hour workdays like when you're out on a training exercise) either paid to us in money, which will NEVER happen when the army has its say, or exchanged for more days of holiday

The latter most point is why I am talking to you right now, at the two and a half month mark, instead of the three month mark, where the boot camp would have actually ended. We got so many extra hours they had to give us a week off to even the balance out.

I GOT MUCH MORE QUIBBLES, AMA DUDES
>>
>>33662003
wew lad. A 41 hour working week! Although it's understandable that they treat recruits nicely since I heard nobody actually wants to serve in Germany.
As for motivation it rarely exists anywhere in the military and that's understandable.
>>
>>33662154
I didn't evne get training on the MG3, which was one of the biggest reasons I signed up! Just G36 and P8. They had to cut it because there wasn't enough time! Jesus fuck!

And yeah it's true. You can quit any time you want during the first 6 months. You can also be booted any time they want during the first 6, though that's barely an issue since they can't kick out anyone... they have massive lack of personnel problems.

Also, about 90% of everyone who does sign up is FUCKING STUPID! I have never been surrounded by more people with an IQ about equal to room temperature before! These people are so fucking dim like I didn't believe possible! It's unbelievable. There's people who failed their way out of the lowest education grades here. And not in lot numbers either. Everyone smart who is here is doing something similar to me, just using it to bridge time to something else or to get some "experience for life" as you'd say. Even our group leader DI is fucking stupid, and they let that guy command a Leo 2! It's seriously depressing.

>weapon fuckups
We got our guns unloaded at all times (and only get them when we're going to the field or the range anyway) unless we're going to the shooting part on the range right then and there so nobody actually fucked anything up.

Except for my group DI, who fucked up so momentously it has to be told in a special frame.

>out on Biwak (this basically means three days of military camping)
>night attacks, patrol, watch post, the works, actually pretty cool for once
>due to our group leader being so fucking dumb, there wasn't actually any OPFOR pretenders assigned to our patrol area and the area that our shallow graves overlooked, so we didn't get to shoot literally any of our blanks, everyone's got like thirty rounds per person kicking around
>third day, the march back
>we don't shovel shut our holes on the exercise ground because the DI gives us loadsa pressure because he MISUNDERSTOOD THE TIME FRAME
>other DI takes pictures of this and shows the First LT of the platoon, dude is livid
>DI completely fucks up navigation because he was just following the roads on the exercise ground with a map but without a compass
>we march 6 km extra and arrive an hour late to the disgruntlement of all other groups who had to wait for us to get there
>more shit happens, we get hustled across an obstacle course, have to jog the rest of the way back to the barracks in full kit
>ammo checkup at the end of it all, we dump the massive pile of blanks into an ammo crate
>First LT looks at the DI like he wants to murder him because now someone has to count all this shit
>he gives the DI the order to count the ammo, then check all the armory equipment (guns, radios, NVGs and the ammo) back at the armory, then drive back out to the exercise grounds to shovel the holes shut we didn't cover because of his orders
>DI doesn't want to count the ammo
>DI makes the terrible mistake to try to use his brain

>orders the grunts to shovel the holes shut first of all
>then orders the grunts to load all of their mags to full and hose that ammo out on full auto
>zero rounds left means zero rounds to count, solid logic/10
>one of the guns doesn't cycle right on blanks, so it leaves three rifles to chew up the ammo
>G36
>FULL AUTO
>MUZZLE PLUGGED UP BY "FIRE PLUG" THINGIE TO KEEP THE GUN CYCLING ON BLANKS
>ABOUT 350 BLANKS PER RIFLE
>FIVE MINUTES
>FINAL DESTINATION: LIQUID PLASTIC
>returns smiling and with three rifles on the back of the pickup that are still smoking and hot to the touch
>the polymer carrying belt laid across the barrel on all three and became this sludge that completely melded with the metal
>he doesn't even notice, the armory guys look at it and go totally boggle-eyed
>LT is notified and tears the DI a new one, forces him to do a written explanation on why he thought this was a smart idea
>all three guns had to be inspected by a material inspector to see if the intense heat caused the hardening to fail inside the barrels, us grunts were never told what the result was but our DI was the ass of the platoon from that point onwards so we can make a good educated guess

Dumbest Oberfeldwebel in the world. That's Staff Sergeant equivalent btw.

>somehow still qualified to educated aspiring Panzergrenadiers (MechInf) like me
>bunderswehrlogic.exe
>EVERY fucking hint he gives us is wrong, so much that we've taken to doing the opposite of the things he suggests in an effort to cut out the mistakes, AND ITS WORKING
For example (this repeated in many permutations throughout the bootcamp, but always with the same setup)
>we have this tent that, when put up, has the tent poles stick upwards out of the tentcloth a good bit
>the poles are blank, shining aluminium (gg design)
>to camo this, you're supposed to pop the carrying bag of the tent cloth over it, which is nicely flecktarn
>and which we didn't bring, because DI Dimwit told us we could leave in the bunkroom since we carry the cloth inside our backpacks at the very bottom anyway
>other DI sees our terribly visible tents and gives us a good knife-handing
>we try to get in edgewise
>"B-but sir-"
>"BUT WHAT"
>"DI Dimwit told us we should do it like that."
>other DI looks over to our DI being off to the side somewhere, spots his black beret (tanks) and his pink Litzen (colored strips on your shoulder flaps that show troop allegiance; pink also means tanks)
>looks back to us
>"...well, I guess I can't blame you then. Honestly, I'm kinda sorry for you."

This repeated itself with like eight other items and situations throughout boot.

>>
>>33662352
Thanks for the stories bro. This makes me glad I waited until I moved to the US to enlist because from what I heard the bullshit with work hours and not being allowed to sleep in the barracks is a thing back home on Sweden too. EU rules was it? Not surprised, those idiots cock everything up. Swedish army is also notoriously underfunded because of our shit politicians. So now I'm shipping out for US army basics next month. Hopefully it'll be less retarded than if I joined back in sweden.

I also decided to say fuck it to engineering school , did EE, and dropped out. I don't want a desk job anymore.

I've been wondering what kind of grenade launchers you guys are using.
I guess it's AG36, GMG for small ones, but what about AT? You have Gustavs or what?
>>

We use the GraPi, Grenade Pistol. We also have the Panzerfaust 3 for AT. We have CGs, but we don't train people on them anymore, they're only used for battlefield illumination.

Why is that? AG36 can be used separately too, no biggie
>>
>>33663594
Adds unnecessary bulk and weight to your rifle. If you have time to use a grenade launcher than you have time to pull one out of a pack. US military in Afghanistan actually pulled Vietnam era M79 "blooper"s out of storage because the rifle mounted grenade launchers sucked so much.

I'm not sure anyone has the answer but in the event someonr has experience it would be greatly appreciated. What are the odds of a neet with B.S. in applied math with a 3.6 being able to get into a nuke program? Would I be an officer or enlisted and what are my odds? I'm reading conflicting things here.
>>
>>33663698
Not really going to be a problem. Depends on how severe it is. I haven't been officially diagnosed with it, but I get a pretty crazy rash on the back of my hands and on my elbows. It only really ever comes out when I spend a good amount of time outside in the sun. So by the end of boot camp it was noticeable, and people would ask about it. Usually go something like

>What the fuck is wrong with your hand
>I don't know
>Does it hurt
>No
>Oh, ok. Should get it check out
>Good to go

And then I don't actually get it looked at because I honestly don't care. It doesn't hurt and it doesn't inhibit me from doing my job, So I'm not wasting a day to go to BAS about nothing.
>>
>>33664594
You just do well on the asvab, and ask the navy for a nuke contract. Just sit on it until they give it to you. Don't do the the "Well, I want to leave soon, and signed as a boatswains mate because the recruiter said there were no nuke contracts now."
You can enlist as a nuke, and they'll train you to do it. If you're looking for a commission, it's different because it's a selection process, so if you're not top of your class in everything, you may not get it.

>>
>>33664713
I could tell you boot stories all day, and you'll think, "Wow, that sounds shitty.' But you can't really understand it until you go through it. Its only difficult if you make it difficult. Speed, volume, intensity are the things they'll harp on. Physically, it's not hard. I'm 5'8 and 130lbs. If it wasn't hard for me, then it shouldn't be hard for you. Mentally, Just get used to getting fucked. The sooner you can just take it and realize it's all part of the process, the better off you'll be.
>>
>>33664594
Take the asvab, if you score pretty high, which it looks like you will, they'll try to get you in nuke programs. I'm not sure if you can get an ocs packet with nuke or if you'd have to apply later, but you can get to be an officer with a degree (technically 60 credits)
>>
>>33664705

I'm a little older than most people when they go in, and they seem to say the older guys have an easier time handling the getting screamed at and all that. I'm not too worried about that. I'm more worried about fucking up and making everyone else have to pay for it.My grandpa has a few stories like that from when he was in,in the 50's. they used to jump people if the guy made a habit out of fucking up.

I'm also worried about some of the obstacles in the confidence course. Not scared of them, just worried i won't be able to accomplish them and ill get fucked.
>>
>>33663678
you barely have an osut is just an extended basic
>>
>>33664792
Don't worry about that stuff. People will make mistakes, and there will even be a bunch of idiots in your platoon that'll get you fucked up. It's a fact of life. You just have to take it. Sometimes they'll even pick people who aren't doing anything wrong and call them out for fucking up. It's all part of the game they play.
And this isn't the 50s anymore. That kind of shit doesn't happen. We had a few fights in our platoon., but it was always 2 dudes would square up and throw down. You just let it happen.

As for the confidence course, it's easy. They aren't meant to be physically challenging, just something you have to overcome mentally. I think the most difficult one for me was a set of ascending bars and you have to use your upper body to climb them. Also, It's natural to be nervous. I can tell you not to be, but when you're on that bus at 1am and that receiving drill instructor gets on the bus and gives you his spiel, it's gonna be rough.

Help me out /k/. I am a 28 year old Police Officer in good physical shape, married with children and considering going into the reserves. I currently run a 9 minute mile, can do 40 consecutive push-ups/sit-ups (our physical test for my job).

I'm contemplating a three year reserve sign up and possibly a four year "real" Army stint if every thing goes good.

I am not familiar with our Armed Forces, so forgive me if I sound retarded.

I'm trying to hit sub-24 minutes for my 3 mile run PFT. What are some tips to help me cut my run time?

Also, should I be leaning forward or leaning back?
>>
>>33670147
Lean forward. Run distance a a decent pace, but not enough to tire you out completely. Do some suicides. I like using a basketball course, so 3-point, half court, 3-point, full court. I do 10 to 15 with 30 second rests. For distance, I run some tank trails at a decent pace that end up being about 4 miles. Also, this might sound kinda stupid, but boots and utes runs can help. I'd run 3 miles with my RAT boots. All in all, this season I cut my time by about 2 minutes to a 22min PFT.

I don't know about swimming, but as long as you're not overweight, that's plenty of time to get your run to an acceptable level.
Work on running longer first, then faster. Run 3 instead of the 1.5, and you'll notice your cardio base increase.

I ran a 13:45 going into basic, and 8 weeks later, ran an 11 flat. Our run routine was shit, it's really all about consistency.

NATO alphabet, and find a list of all the ranks with their corresponding insignia. You will be required to know both by heart the second you arrive there and, depending on your training, salute them very soon while referring to them with the right rank or you will get ass-blasted. In case anyone was wondering what happened to me a few weeks ago (I doubt it) I'm the DEP poolee from the shipper validation thread we had on April 1st, where I ratted on myself at the moment of truth about having ADD as a child.

Everything worked out alright, they got me a waiver and I'm shipping out in August.

Friendly reminder to not tell the liaison SHIT at MEPs or shipper val - I almost got discharged for it. Despite what they say (and they will be fucking screaming at you threatening you with jail time if you lie) there is absolutely no way they can find out about your past drug use or medical history UNLESS YOU TELL THEM. The only thing you have to worry about is your criminal record if you have one, because that shit will show up in your background check.
>>
>>33674380
Are you Army or Marine. If Marine, you address him by his full rank. Sergeant, Staff sergeant, Gunnery sergeant, etc. Army will let you call them all sergeant. It's good to get in the habit of doing it so it comes naturally later down the line. Although, if your going marines, you're going to be calling DIs "sir" for your time there.
>>
>>33675317
Can't say i remember your post but i'm glad things worked out for you. I'm also a depper and i just chose to keep my head cool and not mention some of my previous issues because they weren't really an issue. It's so minor that i would feel bad about wasting their time for a waiver.

So for anyone who hasn't been to MEPS for their physical. Just be relaxed and polite and they won't give you a hard time. When i got to the doctor at MEPS he said he trusted me and rated me A for everything in reliability because i had nothing obvious to hide, minor things will just be more work for them and they're happy to not have to do it.

I am curious about the shipper val though, is it just going back to the person taking your biometrics and asking you to fess up? Or is it at the medical office? How exactly does that work, because i'll be shipping out in 4 weeks so i would like to know what will happen on that day.
>>
>>33675405
>I am curious about the shipper val though, is it just going back to the person taking your biometrics and asking you to fess up?

Most likely it's going to be Master Sgt screaming at you the entire time, not the doctor from MEPS. Shipper val is usually held at your branches respective military base.

First they make you run an IST to verify that you're ready to ship and then they take you and about 20-30 other people aside in a classroom, show you a presentation on fraudulent enlistment in order to scare the shit out of you, yell at you a bunch and threaten you some more, then they have you sign a piece of paper verifying that what you told them at MEPS was 100% accurate.
>>
>>33675458
IST? So you're a marine? I'm scheduled for the army OPAT to do my test fitness before i ship out.

I guess I have to sign a similar paper for the army then. Shit i've had to do it before and i have no problems doing it again.

>Education

>You can enlist in the Air Force with a high school diploma or a GED. However, GED holders must meet the following additional requirements: Be at least 18 years of age Must obtain a 65 qualifying score on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) Obtain 15 or more semester hours of qualifying college credit to gain the same eligibility as a high school graduate Note that GED holders must wait for GED applicant slots to become available, and this can sometimes mean waiting periods of up to one year. Under normal circumstances, 1% of our enlisted force accessions are GED holders during a one-year period
>>
>>33676031
Yet every MOS they have listed has High school diploma, GED with 15 credit ours, or GED.
Why make the distinction between GED with 15 credit hours OR GED? It implies that they will take someone in certain cases regardless of credit hours. Thats what I'm asking about, how often is this a thing?
>>
>>33676137
Ok let's spell this out again

>However, GED holders must meet the following additional requirements
>Obtain 15 or more semester hours of qualifying college credit to gain the same eligibility as a high school graduate

So if you have a GED you HAVE to have 15 hours to be equivalent to a regular high school degree. These are the general requirements.

If you want to be sure then talk to a recruiter. Simple as that.

Walk ins are generally not qualified so you have to be persistent. If the air force doesn't want to work with you then try other branches.

You've always been able to apply as an E-4. The pilot program basically just lets those with degrees pipeline right into CID. Without the new program you could already enlist as an E-4 with a degree and then drop a CID packet after completing another AIT, but this streamlines it a lot more.

I'm finishing my college degree and I am going to try to become a USAF officer, I dont know how to put this, but obviously there is some sort of on base housing, so would that be similar to say, a dorm room?

Would it be possible for one person to simply stay in the on base housing? I assume that if they did that, then it would be paid for and you wouldn't have to worry about paying for housing at all, correct?

Or is it the type of thing where Uncle sam deducts food and housing expenses out of your paycheck?

The reason I'm motivated to do this is as a means to support myself and gain something that I can take into the civilian world to live a comfortable life once finished, so paying for an apartment or a house near base isn't important to me.

Right.

Jokes aside,
It's a good job that affords you major contracting opportunities when you seperate. PMC's try hard to recruit accredited handlers certified by the k9 school at lackland that have deployment experience.

Explosive detection contracts offer 14-15k a month and most of it is tax free. Contracts rotate three months on two weeks off usually for a year.

I did it for three years and retired. No house note, car note, nothing. I'm rated at 100% through the VA too so I dont pay any taxes ie property etc. Everything paid in full within three years.

>>33677279

As an officer you can get on-base housing, but it will cost your entire BAH.

BAH = $1k - $3k/mo tax-free they give you for housing. You can either give 100 % of it up for on-post housing, or you can find a place to live off-post and pocket the difference.

For instance: You get $1500/mo BAH but you find a cheap apartment out in town for $500? Congratulations, you just gave yourself a $12,000/year raise by pocketing the difference.
>>
>>33677652
I wouldn't listen to anyone on here regarding your future.

There exceptions to everything and you won't know unless you do it. My mom was born abroad and became a citizen. I went to live in her home country for a year before joining up and becoming a dog handler. Any mp type job is required to have a secret clearance.

I got my clearance no problem.
>>
>>33677700
Do you not have officer's mess's? Or like housing estates that are owned by the base?
>>
>>33677753

The US military privatized on-post housing a long time ago. When you live on the installation you're just being charged 100 % of your housing allowance by a private corporation that owns the housing.

It only really makes sense to live on post if you have a ton of kids. Otherwise, you're much better off having your own place out in town and banking all that tax free money.
>>
>>33677774
Right, I'm UK military but I'm doing a tour with you lot in Nevada from the end of summer for a few years. I imagine the UK will charge me at the UK rate for accommodation and they'll pay the rest lol. So you actually get free accommodation?
>>
>>33677797

>free accommodation

Officers, senior enlisted, and married junior enlisted get an allowance. It's not exactly the same as free since if you get an extravagant place you'll have to pay the difference, but if you get a cheap place you get to keep the difference.
>>
>>33677701
i imagine though that there is different consideration for different country, right?

Yes, it's a new program to let civilians go into the Army on a 5 year contract as CID Special Agents. You are E-4 but your rank is concealed mostly, and you can drop a warrant officer packet in 2 years on the job.

Requires Bachelor's in a select number of degrees with a 3.0 GPA and an otherwise spotless record including good credit.

Not a whole lot of people know about it and most recruiters are obvious to it as well. Mine tried telling me it didn't exist at first and I had to be firm until he researched it and confirmed it did, but has been helpful since. As I said my packet is pending, it's been a week and can take up to 30 days. It runs continuously unlike OCS boards.

You are authorized BAH, carry a gun and a badge, and are otherwise a federal agent as well as soldier. I have a lot of eggs in this basket so I'm praying I hear some good news back.

Definitely some admin job like "admin", "personnel", "finance", "aviation resource manager", or "contracting".

Easy office job with 9-5 type hours, plenty of time to browse youtube or better yet, actually knock out a bunch of classes online.
Very doable to take night classes with those jobs, and won't use up too much of your brainpower during the day.

I'd say a lot of cyber jobs too, but almost all of them require secret, and some require TS.

They don't have access to your medical records, so if you don't want them to know don't tell them. If you fail a hearing test, it's because you can't hear well enough and you should accept that. Scoliosis, you're gonna be doing a lot of bending and twisting where you're going and that might get you a bus ticket home if you can't hack it.

Getting tired of my current job.

If they don't extend my contract again, I've already decided I'm going AF. Lord knows I need the education/training but can't pay for it.

For assignment, what are the odds of getting places like Korea or Japan if I rank them 1&2 on my dream sheet? Better than Zero?

Is there a particular specialty in those regions that would better my chances?
>>
>>33680688
That's pretty much it.
You'll do BMT and tech school right alongside everyone else, then you'll go back to your unit.
Then it's one weekend a month, two weeks a year for as long as you want. If you want, your unit can usually get you on orders for a few months at a time.

>>33680978
You *can*, but there are only so many GED slots, which means you might be waiting for a long time (like a year) before you actually enlist.

If I were you, I'd just go ahead and get 20 credits. You can do that in a semester + summer, you'll enlist with the equivalent of a HS diploma, and you'll enter as E-2 which will net you an extra $4k or so.
Don't sign for six years, you do get E3 earlier, but it's really not worth the lack of mobility. Most people regret it.

>>33681083
Nobody knows how assignments work in the AF, you see the weirdest shit. I stacked east coast on my dream sheet in tech school, got Colorado. My classmate who put Colorado on her list got Langely (VA Beach).
One thing does remain true... Korea is always open and you can almost always volunteer to go there. Comm seems to be in and out of Korea a lot.

>>
>>33664709

Is there paperwork on it? As in, did you get arrested or booked for using it in some way?

If not, then just shut the fuck up. It never happened. People get so fucking worked up for TS clearances, they don't go around trying to see if you used drugs in the past or if you look at tranny porn online. Literally all they care about is if you're a fucking terrorist or have some hidden financial issues or whatever someone could use to blackmail you.

The lie detector test is dumb as fuck and is just a mindgame to get you to rat yourself out. Your needle can be jumping like fucking mad on a question and they *might* deny you clearance but they can't punish you for it. We had a guy on our boat (submariner) who was a radioman, top secret clearance goes hand in hand with that rate, but he was from the Ukraine so they never gave him TS clearance. He did his whole sea tour without it, was the boat seamstress and did all the other odd jobs around the boat, really great guy. Could man ESM but couldn't do any of the radio shit his rate entails. Now he's off to go be a translator wherever the fuck they need someone who can speak Russian doing badass shit.

My point is, don't worry about that dumb shit. People lose/fail to get clearances for 3 main reasons. 1: unpaid debt (I have 100k in loans, but I'm paying them off so it's okay). 2: they're from a sketchy country. And 3: they rat themselves out because they're scared vaginas.
>>
>>33664788

You're a fucking idiot for wanting to go nuke.
>>
>>33681549

#2 reason people fail to get clearances is actually lying about dumb shit that doesn't matter. You're right about financial issues being #1 though.

There's a really short list of stuff that will actually disqualify someone from a clearance, so most of it is just people disqualifying themselves for no reason by trying to hide shit that wouldn't even affect it if they weren't lying about it.

How far can I get while remaining a dual citizen? I was born in the US but one of my parents is a leaf. I'd prefer to avoid renouncing if possible.

In regards to OCS, how long out of university is your GPA relevant? I graduated with a BS dual major degree but wasn't the best student (~2.8 GPA). I've been working in the industry for a couple years now, and I assume that will help me but will my GPA ruin my chances?
>>
>>33684749
You can't get a security clearance as a dual citizen so you can not be an officer without giving up your canadian citizenship.

So you'd have to go for enlisted jobs that requires no security clearance and those jobs are mostly pretty shit. I've looked around for those since i'm not a us citizen yet and it's basically just maintenance jobs or combat arms. So i went with combat arms.
>>
What happens if you get denied a TS clearance after you go through a school for the Navy?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-ZmPTjL3ik

You should make damn sure that you pick something that you can stand doing for at least 3 years. I personally would probably be suicidal after 2 weeks as 92Y because i've worked in warehouses and it sucks, and it seems like going into the 92 series in the army will put you with the most incompetent retards out there judging by the people i've talked to who are doing it. But we're all different. Maybe you actually enjoy that shit.
>>
>>33685531
Holy fuck i wanted to do something logistics related but nevermind that sounds like hell.
>>
>>33685589
Yeah, fair warning is that basically all 92 jobs will mean that you'll work with total retards. I went down to enlist a couple of weeks ago and my roomie at the hotel had been rejected from the air force for having too low ASVAB score and he went 92F in the army instead. The guy was seriously stupid, had a broken cell phone charger and couldn't figure out why his phone broke down all the time and he watched TRU TV the whole evening.

I don't know which logistics are actually good but one of my recruiters was 88H, maybe that's closer to what you want.

If you're an officer you go straight in.

If you're enlisted you go in for three years doing something else, then transfer to your branch's investigative service, unless you're a Marine in which case it's the branch's HUMINT/CI MOS.
>>
>>33681229

>OSI
Good luck getting selected for an OTS slot with an OSI contract. It's the most requested non-rated slot and has few openings.
>NCIS
NCIS is a civilian agency idiot
>The fuck would anyone do that?
Because it's impossible breaking into 1811 work without having been a detective. So you can put in years or decades with a local police department, or walk right into Army CID.
>>
>>33687555
Well to cheer you up a bit more, on average people score 6 points higher on the real ASVAB than on the EST. I did 85 on my EST and got 95 on the real test. So you should be good.
>>
>>33687632

>No commissioned officers in Army CID

>>
>>33687670
It's okay. It's a great program once you've fallen to Earth and realize how difficult it actually it to get hired into a good government agency without having all your ducks in a row. Being a college grad and a veteran honestly isn't even enough now-a-days because you don't stand out. You have had to done something highly specialized.

I actually have a Master's with a 3.6 and NCIS wouldn't even look at my application.

Also did talk to the local OTS liaison and he wouldn't even test me when I said I wanted OSI. He only gets to *test* 6 guys a month and he said I wouldn't get it so he didn't want to waste our time.

>>
>>33686617
>why did the Chair Force become a meme after Vietnam
It didn't.

In the 80s, the Cold War was burning hot, and SAC (nuclear bombers and missiles) was at the forefront of everyone's minds. The AF was the source of U.S. sovereignty against the Soviets.

Then, the Soviet Union fell, and the AF was the star of the show in the Gulf War. Iraq was neutered before a single boot touched the ground, and the AF basked in the glory.

The AF didn't become a "meme" until OIF, when the spotlight was on the Army/Marines. USAF leadership fell into "forgotten little brother" mode, trying to make the AF's history and culture into something it wasn't. That's where faggot shit like "warrior airmen" and "the Airman's creed" came from. Instead of embracing the fact that hard ass maintainers and technical operators made the AF great, they wanted to be all hua and macho like the Army or Marines.

>>33688175
>It's very much a branch for weenies
If you're interesting in doing something other than infantry shit, it's the right branch. Not sure how looking out for yourself makes you a weenie.

It's usually an unaccompanied short tour (one year, leave your wife behind), you live in the barracks until you're like E-7, and it's sorta kinda more intense compared to regular assignments. My friends aren't going to rat me out, however I am concerned that possibly my own father and another family friend may mention something of it.
>>
>>33689249

Then tell them not to. Also those are the last people who should rat you out if they care about you.

As someone with a clearance who has been frequently listed as a contact on family/friend clearance applications, I always tell the 100 % truth when the investigator comes knocking. It's a felony not to, and I'm not risking my clearance to lie for someone. I just assume they're all being truthful on their application if they actually want a clearance.

Opinions on 0352 in marine reserve?
>>
>>33689893

What about it? You would be a combat arms Marine in the reserves used as an extra rifleman because unless we go up against someone with armor you won't be using your other skillset.
>>
>>33689893
You get to blow shit up and shoot SMAWs.
But if ever deployed, will probably end up acting like a rifleman
>>
>>33689851

I can't afford to have teammates that want to lie for stupid reasons. Lying is a tool to achieve an end, it's something you should hone and apply appropriately. Lying in a clearance investigation is just retarded, and I hate working with idiots.
>>
>>33686965
Basically what I've been thinking.
>>
>>33690106

>lie for stupid reasons

The military doesn't care if you've dabbled in pot. If you have ever taken pain pills after having your wisdom teeth out then you've done drugs much harder than weed. What the military gives a fuck about is whether or not you have a lifestyle involving substance abuse and if that's going to be an ongoing problem.

Having a stick up your ass about everything is the kind of stupid, inflexible attitude that is actively counterproductive to any mission more sensitive than "guard this pothole with your life because I said so".

I don't really care what the military gives a fuck about, they don't even read your SF-86. Pot isn't an issue for a clearance investigation. It's a classic case of something that nobody gives a shit about if you admit it, but as soon as you try to cover it up it becomes prime blackmail material.

Good thing /meg/ has an obsession with being grunts, because most of you would never make it anywhere in the IC.

I'm going to MEPS this thursday to finish my processing. Took the PICAT last time I went and verified my ASVAB at 89.
I was wanting to go into avionics to try and learn a trade coming out of the Air Force. I've never been diagnosed though I believe I'll fail the test for red/green color blindness/deficiency.
I want to do something to keep me busy and challenge myself. An anon previously had suggested that Intel could be a possible opening still.
Any suggestions? I haven't had much time to think about it. Operations Intelligence seems like a good place to start.
A follow up:
I'm looking to earn a degree while enlisted, I already have over 100 credits through an Associate's and a couple years of 4 year university.
I'll be going back to school looking to earn a bachelor's in actuary mathematics. Would the AF/ military have a use for me studying in the field of economics?

You're a liar
>>
>>33691355
Sure as shit they read your sf86. I enlisted as a grunt and we sat down and walked through my sf86 for a job that didn't even require a security clearance. They were totally anal about spelling, addresses and asked about drugs.

Fact is that they said at the physical that they currently are closed for any and all previous marijuana use so even for grunt jobs they disqualify you for it.

So if the option is to lie or be DQd I'd rather lie.

Good luck! MOS?

>I'd rather waste 4 years of my life than regret it forever.

This is what I always tell people who are on the fence, but don't really have anything that great gunning for them otherwise.
Assuming you aren't a colossal retard, the worst case is that you get a half-decent paycheck for 4 years and free college.

I'm a Leaf.
I put down
>Armour Crewman
>Infantry
>Artillery
Fingers crossed that I hear back, but I was told to expect it to move slow as molasses.

Honestly the only thing that half worries me is telling my family. My dad works with in the DND and with former/current military and knows the deal but my mother still thinks it's how it was with my Grampa in the 40s. That'll be a tough sell but I'm not compromising.

Niiiiice dude
I put in my application for the reserves a few weeks ago, good luck pal
>>33691993
For the reserves that shit is really quick, or i got lucky. Took me 5 days between the online app vetting and the hand-filled-out form they email you. Supposed to take a month regularly. Now I just have to get ready for the CFAT and similar tests
>>
>>33692089
I heard they're rolling it out starting in Alberta and the Maritimes (Army and Navy respectfully) that they're trying to get Reserve application times down to 21 days start-finish.

I was considering the Reserves but the armoury in my town is Inf/Artillery only and I don't feel like going over to Hongcouver every weekend. (And a desire to get out of this city pretty bad ngl)

Unless someone has a video/pictures of you smoking weed, they can't blackmail you.
Someone calling your security manager (if they can even find out who that is) and trying to tell them you smoked weed is laughable. I can't go to the cops and tell them you stole $100k from the bank unless I had some sort of proof.

Protip: No matter how much you smoked, say you tried it once or twice (unless you never actually did smoke).
You won't get DQ'd/Discharged for it, and there's no way for you to be blackmailed since the feds already know.
>>
>>33692118
Fucking REALLY? Damn I got insanely lucky then.

I haven't gone through with more of it yet because I've been filling out the forms, been a week and a half, I should get on that faster if it's that short.

Hopefully going to be vehicle tech, put down L wep tech and inf for my other options. I might wanna change the L wep tech portion but too late for that now.

Maybe I'll go regfor later, just wanna finish school first. I'm fucking stoked for this

Non american here, how do i get to join the marines?

If you like that stuff, go finance. 6F0X1.
It's an office job where you'll be able to pursue college in your down time, and TA will cover your (very related) degree.
People here might tease you for being the most POG of all POGs, but fuck em, because you'll be laughing to the bank in the end.

Ok you convinced me. I'm in college right now and I want to go ROTC. Who should I go see?
>>
>>33692263
thanks for the answer.
with my college credits i'll be signing up for 4 years initially since I'll come out of boot E-3. depending on how it turns out i'll probably sign on for another 2 years to have a complete 6 year run.
i'll be aiming for a Masters in Finance Economics and then a doctorate. depending on what's going on, military could become my career.

Obviously, which is why it's preposterous to try and hide it. It's not something that can affect you if it's out in the open, but if you're trying to hide it you're giving others power over you for no reason.
>>
>>33692309
I'm gonna say AF, but what are you interested in?
Depending on your interests, Army/Navy may suit you better.

>>33692322
4 years is a good idea, it keeps your doors open. There are many paths to take once you're in, just keep your ears open in BMT and tech school and you'll learn.

>>33692415
The problem is that there's a very thin line between what can get you discharged for admitting, and what they'll roll with.
I had to get a discharge waiver processed IN BMT for smoking 3x.
>>
>>33666627
Maybe you could join Reserves and care for it?
I kind of get you. My cat is now old and I would not bare being away when she passes. :(
>>
>>33692496
>I'm gonna say AF, but what are you interested in?
Airforce. My family always told me to join the airforce if a draft ever happened.

Im interested in doing administration or intel work. I'm good at managing people and want to learn to be a better leader.

I was in a business leadership class and I had an army guy on the GI bill in my group. He wrote a letter to the instructor saying what a great leader I was for taking charge of the group and keeping up with everyone (a lot of drama happened with one member, I was the middleman for the entire group). Never realized until that point that I was always naturally falling into leadership positions whenever group work came up. I always just sort of stepped up and got everyone focused on getting things done.

Who do I go talk to? Should I go to an airforce recruitment station?

>I'm good at managing people and want to learn to be a better leader.

Sounds like you'd be a good fit for an officer. Those are your primary duties as a commissioned man, and the ability to do that effectively will allow you to go far.

I'm an enlisted man, but I work with officers on a daily basis, so I see the difference firsthand. Enlisted is the technical expertise, the "labor" if you will, while officers make the decisions, and ultimately take the glory or the fall.

>Who do I go talk to? Should I go to an airforce recruitment station?
There should be an AFROTC detachment at your school. Talk to them. If you go talk to a normal recruiter, you'll probably get an enlisted recruiter who won't be able to help you become an officer.

Best of luck!
