You know how everyone typically recommends ctrlpaint.com and matt kohr as a great beginner's resource for learning how to paint digitally for free/on the cheap? Is there a similar resource for learning flash/animate CC that's cheap and beginner friendly? The best thing I've been able to find on google aside from adobe's own tutorial lessons is a series on trainsimple. I can't afford lynda.

Do you go to an Atelier, an Art School or get any offline instruction at all? Share your stories, anxieties and questions here (instead of making several flippant individual threads that will die within a few days as usual)

Just visited the one local atelier today. The building it was in was a dump but the section dedicated to the Atelier itself was well kept. I was surprised with the youth of the students; I'd expected there to be a lot of old people but it looked to be predominantly normal looking people in their mid-20s so I didn't really feel out of place in that way. I'm looking forward to attending but I'm pretty intimidated by how much better the students there appeared to be than I am.

Yeah, one of their biggest strengths is the "pay as you go" billing and the versatile scheduling. Not to mention they're relatively inexpensive vs. a college, though that doesn't make them cheap by any means either.

OK, a few things:

How's my Tracer drawing? I left plenty of details behind like the british flag but overall its very faithful to the original piece.

Now some questions:

If I replicate enough of these drawings will I eventually get a grasp on how to originally create them from 0?

Is there any type of eraser that actually leaves a clean sheet (with no trace of what was erased)? I had issues with this one because I had to erase a bunch of stuff and in the end the paper was very dirty

Why do the colors look so murky? I cant get a solid color, whats a good brand of coloring pencils? I'm using faber castell

Whats a good way to keep track of proportions? Should I draw lines with a ruler across the drawing to guide myself?

How do I keep the shading after coloring?
And whats a good way to color the white parts? Should I just leave them without color?

I'm really fucking annoyed with drawing from the shoulder. I'm fat as fuck so keeping my arm in the air is exhausting, but I also have both carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome so it starts to strain me after a short while.

What even do?

>>
>>2423980
dont take the drawing from the shoulder thing too literally; draw from the shoulder if you're drawing vertically or drawing large shapes. There's nothing wrong with switching to your forearm or wrist now and then
>>
>>2423980
Learn to draw with the other hand, bruh. You are supposed to have two.
>>
>>2423987
This.
Also while you're at it make sure to learn how to draw with your mouth in case you lose your arms in a car accident so people 80 years into the future can call you a tragic genius.

Loomis has nothing to do with recent manga, unless its semi realistic manga like berserk movies, copy your favorite artist like hell and study anatomy, from life or GOOD hentai artists.

That's like my third drawing ever, what's plumbing lines mean?

>>2423863
Gotcha. From stuff I've been following, they say just copying isn't a good way to get good, so I've been following all the standard lines one goes when they say they want to get artsy.

I can draw but I can't write comedy. Any ideas to remedy this so I can start a web comic?

black comedy is always popular, write about how depressing your life is. Maybe make it so that the main chracter(s) try to kill themselves each strip but something gets in the way.
>>
>>2422805
Actually you don't need to be "good" at all to do comedic-type webcomics. (Just look at xkcd) I don't really have comedy tips for you, but do you really want to do humor? Are you doing it for the popularity or do you really want to write it over other genres?
>>
It doesn't have to be funny.
Like you could make a comic about your gf's miscarriage

How do y'all fare with makeshift mediums (regarding oil painting)?
I tried to make a DIY Gel Medium out of Linseed Oil + Galkyd Lite + corn starch + baking soda + gelatin powder. I'm not sure if this was a ridiculously stupid idea or something that every artist tries at least at some point.
Any tips? Anyone have any painting chemistry knowledge that can help a fellow arteest out?

My only worry would be longevity. Definitely test it out and wait a few weeks to see how it dries/takes humidity before committing it to a final product.

>>

Thanks! Yea I was sort of thinking the same. I think it would give good texture, but I'm also scared if it would make the paint crack when it dries.

How do I get galleries to buy my stuff? Do I just go from one place to another till someone bites?
4 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Galleries traditionally don't buy stuff. They put your work in their space and sell it for you then take a cut and give you the rest.

And yes, just like getting freelance you cart your shit around to venues until someone bites.

I'm sure it also couldn't hurt to involve yourself in any art community that is involved in the gallery scene. Get to know artists who show in galleries you want to get into and hopefully through them others that are involved in the scene.
>>
>>2421853
what are your credentials?
>>
>>2421853
>>2423296

No, no. You don't go from gallery to gallery. No respectable gallery accepts people just coming through the door. Do you think the curator sits on the front desk?

You build a reputation in the local art scene. Be based in a decent studio, get involved with artist-led initiatives, and network, network, network. And go to *every* gallery opening. It takes years to build a reputation.

If all you want to do is sell well rendered pictures then go to Sunday markets, and have affordable prints and maybe even images printed onto hats and purses etc.

I'm a co-director at a gallery.
