I apologize in advance if I'm posting in the wrong board, I think the rules are really fuzzy regarding this.
I'm interested in adult fiction pulp cover art from the 50's-70's. In particular lesbian and Nazi erotica.
Is it just me or was there an obsession with Nazi sex dungeons following World War Two? If so, why was this the case? Why was lesbian erotica so popular? Why is lesbian porn still popular?
I'll post a couple of covers I really like and explain why I like them so much.
>'She Played The Game of Love By Her Own Queer Rules' is a great line
>I think it is interesting that the devil is being sexualized as a lesbian... Great title too
>Not technically adult but within theme, I like the off the wall nature of the content
>Contrast of a butch to a femme and the slight alliteration

Hey /his/ started this thread on /biz/ and they directed me here,so I need your recommendation on the best book about Economic history, something that really gives an extensive walk through of the development of economic thought from the beginning of social groups to contemporary times with as little bias as possible.
why do you need it
just might as well state your assignment question directly
>>979135
not for any assignment, I need it for my own personal research and I couldn't find a decent book on Google so I had hoped the intellectuals of 4chan could point me in the right direction.

Slow board is slow. Your expert will pop up in a bit. Please take a number.
How would the world be different if henry viii never broke from the one church and abandoned his concubine Anne.
Then James 2nd and Charles would have ruled England quicker
Skip Anglicanism and go straight to Lutheranism, because they don't want to pay indulgences - which are basically taxes - to Rome, or even jumping on the Geneva bandwagon.
Puritans end in America regardless.
The only question is how much less frequently would the Brits kill one another.
Sir Thomas more banned protestant books. So the heresy of Lutheranism would not take on hold in england. England would remain catholic, new england would be catholic.
tell me about the lands of the czech/bohemian crown
like, what is the meaning behind proclaiming that entity?
as far as i can tell nothing had actually changed, they were a bunch of realms with a joint ruler
(some of which might have had some other ties, i.e. bohemia+moravia)
or any 'lands of X crown' concept basically
is it just the ruler saying 'alright things might have been kinda independent until now but from now on all of yous are one single together thing'? is it just some crusaderkings-tier 'prestige thing' with no actual real tangible impact? or conversely is that like a proper political and legal thing with real consequences?
Late Middle Ages in area east of Germany (Bohemia, Hungary and Poland, in fact even Denmark and Sweden) was characterized by emergence of nobility and the diet as the most important entity in the state.
Curiously a lot of monarchs of those countries had massive problems with siring sons, which led to constantly changing families on the throne. Personal unions and elections of the kings became endemic.
Oftenly king was a foreigner, lived outside the kingdom in some other realm of his, was mistrusted or unpopular.
Noblemen were native, they had seen themselves as the true representatives of their country's interests, unlike an alien monarch with various interest somewhere else.
Thus the concept of the "Crown" was established, which disattached existence of the state from the person of the monarch and his dynasty. It was supposed to preserve state's territory and protect domination of the native nobility through various ancient privileges and the parliament which noblemen firmly controlled.
>>978667
so the concept of a crown of bohemia was some sort of a 'proto federation' or a 'unified state'? as in uniting various realms together in an administrative/political way so that in the event of a crisis in succession these would not be broken apart
how did that work then? were the people (or rather the ruling nobility) all for it?
because i have a hard time imagining the concept being kept alive without their consent - what's stopping them from saying 'bye lads i'm out, t. duke of [some part of the realm]'
i just have a hard time picturing what it actually, 'tangibly' meant

How did the USA afford the Lend-Lease Act in the midst of the Great Depression? Did they simply print more money?
>How did the USA afford the Lend-Lease Act in the midst of the Great Depression?
The Lend-lease act did not happen in the midst of the Great Depression.

What does /his/ think of School of Life?
Also, we need to talk about this video in particular. What the fuck?

Haven't watched the video. What is it?
Also, what other philosophy/history/science YT channels are worth following?
>>978240
https://www.youtube.com/user/TheGreatWar and https://www.youtube.com/user/BlastfromthePast are fairly good. Though the latter seems dead. https://www.youtube.com/user/ForgottenWeapons if you want old firearms and how they worked. I also adore https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYzmanp7vNYq4_0BMRcMutw?&ab_channel=Anekantavad for how weird he is.
Is it true that during the development of the US as a successful colony and later an independent nation much of the cream of European society was drawn to America for the freedom and opportunity? Or, was it almost exclusively the working class that emigrated?
If this is true, will the same thing happen to the cream of American society when the US eventually begins to decline relative to emerging economies?
Slightly off topic but the reason the US was succesful was the transfer of social and financial capital of British settlers to the new world, in contrast in South America the settlers were exploitative in nature and did not seek to create a functional European society. In North America however there was a proper law system and its laws were enforced.

Only poor people went, why would successful people leave?

fame, fortune, power, adventure, prestige, native girls, freedom, whole bunch of reasons
If you take them both seriously, aren't Catholicism and democracy incompatible?
>>976964
Religion and true democracy is incompatible.
>>976964
Not at all Christianity is inherently secular which makes it able to adapt to all forms of governance
They're both very big ideas that can easily coexist if you strategically ignore the parts that don't.
Hey /his/ have any good movies that make you think or any good philosophical movies? Thanks in advance
I'll name some of my favourites, loosely related to analytic philosophy:
>Wittgenstein
>Travelling Salesman
>Oxford Murders
>Ex Machina
Obligatory:
>The Pervert's Guide to Ideology
>The Pervert's Guide to Cinema
>Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media
Been thinking about watching Agora as well.

What are dreams?
>>974312
The difference between a dream and your waking everyday perception is minimal. The only difference is that your waking perceptions bind to your sensory informaton, and are wholly correlated with it. Different wavelengths of light striking your retina stimulate different types of photoreceptors, which then transduce the signal down the optic nerve and cause your brain to see a certain color corresponding to that spectra.
The trick is, your brain already has that ability I see that color built into its circuitry. When you are awake, this capacity lies dormant until the appropriate stimulus triggers it (i.e the appropriate wavelength of light).
When you are dreaming, these capacities to visualize and experience become unbounded from sensory information, so your mind runs wild with vivid hallucinations of things you are not experiencing, but that feel like you are.
Why the brain does this is still mostly a mystery. One popular theory is that it helps you consolidate memories. It could be a way for your brain to "practice" having experience when you are not having it, so that you can better face the day.

This.
If you delve in the psychological side.
It allow you to realise hiden desires by the use of symbolism.
Freud didn't knew about the potential that dreams/sleep have to help memorisation but modern psychiatry recognise that living a symbolic fantasy isn't the "main" purpose of a dream.
is there anything I can do to influence my lucid dreaming?
Why was King John I the best king in English history?

You know it's true.
Is there any male equivalent that can match Elizabeth and Victoria?
>>971678
Victoria was a fat useless figurehead, people remember her fondly because it was during her reign that all the Crown's real power was stripped away and Parliament took full charge of things.
Elizabeth was Elder God Tier, though. Arguably England's greatest monarch.

Where's a good place to start on reading about the fall of the Roman Republic and the rise of Julius Caesar, to the rise and fall of the Roman Empire?

Thanks. If I wanted to get that in physical form, would I be able to find one by the same translator? Or are there other good translators for physical editions?

History of Rome podcast is pretty great if you don't mind not reading.
So how would the war be different if Operation Neptune failed? Now obviously the Axis would still lose but would this prolong the war in any significant way? How much further would the Soviets have pushed? Would it have any real effect on the Cold war that followed?
The extent of Soviet sphere of influence was already decided before the war was over in negotiation.
>>977935
If the soviets occupied more of continental europe than they had anticipated they might have reneged on the deal
>>977917
War would probably end in late 1945/early 1946.
Remember that by the time of Normandy Landing, soviets started Bagration which annihilated Army Group Center and any hopes of holding a stable frontline in the East for the Germany. After then it was just a matter of time before Soviets were in Berlin. Those troops that fought in Western Front could only delay them for so long.
