How effective would medieval weapons, swords, spears, maces etc. be in a modern riot situation, against police in riot gear (assuming they won't just start shooting)?

Obviously, they wouldn't do much against modern body armor, but even back then, combat was mostly about finding holes in your opponents armor. And riot gear leaves a lot of body parts exposed.

Also, what weapons and tactics would be the most effective against them?

>Note to NSA: I'm totally not planning to organize a revolt, just courious.

Riot police have a very strict order of operations regarding the escalation of foce. They are not immediately gonna switch to live ammo and start massacreing civvies. At least, that's from what I understand.

But let's humor OP for a moment. Which weapons are you gonna select and from what time period?

If we're talking generically, crushing weapons like maces and warhammers are useful if your riot cop is wearing hard armor. As are swords from the era of heavy plate armor.

You do have to realize that being proficient with a medieval melee weapon takes a long time. Time you don't have.

Which means crossbows and pikes. Lots of them. And if your mob has a bunch of crossbows, well...

Yeah, I think if you're gonna hit them with fucking crossbow bolts, they'e most likely gonna spray the mob with gunfire. And not rubber bullets.

>germany takes moscow, stalingrad and leningrad with limited casualities
>japan sinks US carriers in pearl harbor, does not lose half of its navy at midway and destroys the panama canal
>italy sends its troops to fight alongside germany in the eastern front instead of invading random balkan and african nations
>d-day fails

I think this would have been enough for the Axis to win WW2, and everything I said would have been completely possible shouldn't Axis politicians and generals be such retards.

Do you agree?

>if literally every decisive moment of WWII happened differently, WWII would have been different

>>

>germany takes moscow, stalingrad and leningrad with limited casualities
Impossible. The Germans did not have the manpower or logistics to do so. Even a stronger drive to Moscow alone would have left the southern flank exposed to an entire Russian army group, which is why forces were diverted south to destroy it.

>japan sinks US carriers in pearl harbor, does not lose half of its navy at midway
First half is possible but ultimately only extends the war in the Pacific a year at the most, the Japs still lose regardless
>and destroys the panama canal
Impossibru. Not counting the fact the Japanese actually couldn't have made it that far because of a lack of fuel ships and fuel in general, they would have been utterly ravaged by land based aircraft and bombers and the amount of damage they actually could have done with aircraft alone is questionable. Coming in close enough to use their main guns would have definitely ended in the Japanese navy being sunk by land based defenses and land launched aircraft.

>italy sends its troops to fight alongside germany in the eastern front
They did.

>d-day fails
On what condition?

>I think this would have been enough for the Axis to win WW2
No because even if all of this happens the US and UK still win the air war, still bomb Germany to shit, and still get the Nuke first and turn Germany into a radioactive wasteland.
Japan still loses because the US still turns out more tonnage in one year (1943) than they do in six years combined. The US economy was eight times larger than the Japanese economy in 1938, by 1943 the US economy had quintupled.

Is there anything that a formal Humanities education in something like history or literature offers that cannot be replicated through independent research? Is formal education of this time just neo-sophistry?

Why did Poland stay Catholic despite being surrounded by Protestant/Orthodox states? Was it simply a case of >muh national identity or was it something more?
12 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
It made significant headway amog the szlachta initially. Something like 25% of nobles in the Sejm at one point. But the Kings remained Catholic and so when the Counter-Reformation go along by the late 16th Century they promoted the new orthodoxy and suppressed protestantism or at least discouraged it to the point that a lot of nobles converted back to the cathlolic church

What was it about this place that saw so many enormous empires form out of nowhere and so quickly? Every other century there's some power that ends up controlling everything between the Oxus and the Nile while a similar outcome only happened maybe once or twice in Europe and maybe once every five hundred years in China.

The desert is ours. It is my home. Invaders come here, but they do not leave. They do not understand the desert; they do not understand how it gives life, and how it kills. So they die, and we grow stronger. The dead, now, the dead cannot pass on their newfound wisdom...so invaders keep coming, keep trying to take our lands and our wealth. But then, wealth flows through this land. And if our people have one thing, it is the love of wealth. It is sweeter than water, it is more powerful than the sword, for any sword can be turned aside with a gold coin. Gold will buy a thousand warriors...and a thousand warriors, why, they are the start of an empire!

Sedentary hedonism makes you worthless.

Overcoming is where it's at

A NEET can hypothetically seek to overcome himself, but this is rarely the case.

A career can be an avenue or self-affirmation, or even a mundane job, but the mileage varies.
>>
>>974519
you would overcome to find yourself in a mundane job that you resent in the end

Is there any point in looking for a job you enjoy or is that a fool's errand?

Remarkable stories during World War 2

“In June 1944, a young soldier surrendered to American paratroopers in the Allied invasion of Normandy. At first his captors thought that he was Japanese, but he was in fact Korean. His name was Yang Kyoungjong. In 1938, at the age of eighteen, Yang had been forcibly conscripted by the Japanese into their Kwantung Army in Manchuria. A year later, he was captured by the Red Army after the Battle of Khalkhin Gol and sent to a labour camp. The Soviet military authorities, at a moment of crisis in 1942, drafted him along with thousands of other prisoners into their forces. Then, early in 1943 he was taken prisoner by the German army at the Battle of Kharkov in Ukraine. In 1944, now in German uniform, he was sent to France to serve with an Ostbataillon supposedly boosting the strength of the Atlantic Wall at the base of the Cotentin Peninsular inland from Utah Beach. After time in a prison camp in Britain, he went to the United States where he said nothing of his past. He settled there and finally died in Illinois in 1982" Antony Beevor.

Tell me about the history of Prussia. So far I only know this:
>Teutonic Order settles in Königsberg as vassals
>slowly invade the Region surrounding them, which is Polish
>get defeated eventually
>Poles partition Prussia, it's essentially a Polish vassal
>German nobility rises to power in Western Prussia
>all those Friedrichs eventually conquer all of it
What am I missing? Is it Polish or German clay?

It was Polish. The place has always been Polish, always. This is why it belongs to the Polish people. You're just trying to undermine the Polish claim on the land because you're a Nazi sympathizer. No, it does not belong to the Germans, and it never has. Fuck you.
