And "the better france that almost was" is called Etat Francais/Vichy

Honestly they were kinda both. Some of there land was French and other parts of it were Germanic or Flanders now Germanic.

>for years now I've loved reading about the transmission of ideas in parts of the world and how it plays into the modern day
>over time read more and more into religions
>realize that most religions are placed within their own metaphysical systems which could be rationally weeded through if placed up against one another
>see no reason why certain metaphysical systems should be examined in the bubble of "religion"

Is Interreligious Studies any good at all to pursue? Is the field filled with bullshit Unitarians?

Honestly, I love pursuing this stuff. Examining cultures, comparing fundamental worldviews so to understand and then discern truth between them, see the influence of modern thought on older ways of life.

If I were to pursue an education in this, what would be the proper name for this kind of field or major? What should I be looking for?

>Is Interreligious Studies any good at all to pursue? Is the field filled with bullshit Unitarians?

Interreligious studies will cure almost anyone of their religious beliefs. That's why there are so many unitarians and universalists, it's the only position that remains viable once you're familiar with enough of the worlds belief systems.

>If I were to pursue an education in this, what would be the proper name for this kind of field or major? What should I be looking for?

History of religion or anthropology.

>Resolute Blue Sword

Greetings from /tg/. For a 40k game I'm going to be playing in I wanted to name an extremely ancient ship in latin, and I'm pretty damn sure Google Translate isn't going to do the trick. Any chance one of you can help?

Also, "of the Emperor" was somewhat implied in this ship's naming if that makes a difference at all.
Google gave me Caerula Gladium Obstinata and that's my current placeholder name. I'm about 98% certain that it's absolutely butchered though.
Confirmatus Caeruleus Gladius seems about right. The grammar is a little off in the Google translation because it thinks you're describing the colour blue as resolute. I might be wrong, though.

That sounds likely. I mean, Google Translate is handy for getting the basic gist of something across but I've never trusted it to provide anything better than say terrible Engrish style translations like pic related. Though it has helped me speak to people who don't speak English before (after prefacing with something like "I'm using Google Translate, please forgive me if I sound stupid."

Thanks for the translation though. I'll keep a casual eye on the thread in case anyone else speaks up, but I'm not really expecting or needing perfection for this. Just something that doesn't sound like an utterly butchered translation lol

What was the eastern front like in WW1? Was it static trench warfare like the west? Were there large battles comparable to verdun or the somme?
37 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
It was more mobile.

1914 saw Russia invade East Prussia and take some territory. The Battle of Tannenberg checked this advance. Once Germany made Russia the focus of their attention in 1915, Russia was unable to cope.

Russian trenches were is no way comparable to the fortifications constructed in the West. Germany possessed superior quality and quantity of artillery. This meant in 1915, Germany relentlessly battered Russia and kept forcing them to withdraw.

Russia would have collapsed in 1916. However, Falkenhayn (the german Commander) preferred an attack in the west. Instead, you get the attrition of Verdun and the Somme.

Russia launches the Brusilov offensive which smashes into Austro Hungary. Germany is forced to bail out the Austrians yet again. (Austro-Hungary was virtually finished by mid 1915 as a major combat player.)

The offensive is the last flurry by the Russians. Falkenhayn is replaced by Ludendorff and Hindenburg because of the clusterfuck in the west, Ludendorff and Hindenburg pursue a policy in 1917 of trading territory in the west for time to squash Russia in the East. If Falkenhayn had done this a year earlier, you might have had a different outcome in the war...
>>
>>960890
West was only front in that war what was static, rest was mobile like in other wars.
>>
>>961127
The Italian/Soča front was also pretty static, with the advances happening in 1915 and then in 1917, but not really far.

animism.jpg
22KB, 236x319px
Animism encompasses the beliefs that there is no separation between the spiritual and physical (or material) world, and that souls or spirits exist, not only in humans, but also in some other animals, plants, rocks, geographic features such as mountains or rivers, or other entities of the natural environment, including thunder, wind, and shadows.

Before all the fake religions existed and holy scriptures were created Animism is what all humans believed in on the planet Earth. Most tribal people who don't have any contact with the rest of the world and haven't been lied to by missionaries always see the world through animism. Most children 0-4 years old look at the world through animism before they're programmed and brainwashed by their parents and schools. Native americans saw the world this way before they were killed and slaughtered by european idiots.

Why have we fallen for the con of religion? What happened? Where did we go so wrong? Animism is the only true way of life.

>there is no separation between the spiritual and physical (or material) world
>souls or spirits exist
If there's no separation between these two things and places, then how is it they are regarded as identical?

You're right but for the wrong reason: the correct conclusion isn't animism but materialism.

Are there any good examples where cavalry charges have been effective and decisive in battle?
It seems to me that cavalry charges are mostly ineffective throughout history. At hastings the normans would never charge directly into the saxon lines because they were massed so well on the hilltop and would just ride up, try to jab at them with weapons and throw javelins.
At Crecy french cavalry was utterly ineffective since the english archers would take down the horses which probably created a wall of dead horses and knights which the rest of the horsemen couldn't ride through and had to ride around instead. Even if they had reached the english they would have to deal with pikemen and heavy infantry. At agincourt stakes, mud and archers would stop them completely.

And another thing, horses are living beings with instincts and minds. They can't just mindlessly ride through spears and masses of people without stopping, or can they?

It's not like lord of the rings, isn't? Where the horsemen just effortlessly stampede through tens of thousands of monsters

>>
Oh and to add about Hastings, the norman cavalry was very effective once the saxons scattered and started running downhill chasing a fake retreat. The norman knights would then start riding through and between them cutting them down
