In high school I learnt Hegel's philosophy, and at the time it seemed to me so childish and... contrived.
Later I understood that Hegel is one of the most loved philosopher in history and considered extremely important and influential. So, clearly, I just missed something important from the lessons.
So, his, why is Hegel so influential? Why are his teachings so important?

Did you just try reading his books? That might be the place to start, there are not many of them, and "The Phenomenology of Mind" is the only one most people give a shit about.
Teaching high schoolers philosophy seems like a well-intentioned but mostly terrible idea. One thing I will say about philosophers in general: if you feel that utterly dismissive toward one of them, it is almost always because YOU have failed to understand something. Even the ones you vehemently disagree with, even the ones falsified to a large extent by scientific advancements, even the ones who may never exert a profound influence on you personally — were all people with minds no less capable than your own, who devoted a substantial amount of their time to trying to understand at least some aspects of the world they lived in, and wrote down the results of those efforts as best as they could or dared convey them. Even the dirtiest, murkiest-looking bathwater will be found to have several babies floating around in it.

If the teachings of Jesus Christ (love, peace, charity, forgiveness, the golden rule, mercy, etc) were so common and well known before Jesus Christ's birth (from ancient Greek philosophers as well as Buddhists and Hindus) then why is it Christianity took the ancient world by storm and became the dominant religion of Europe and much of Asia/middle east within 500 years?
If these are such common concepts, why is Christianity the worlds most dominant religion and not Hinduism, Buddhism or some religion based on Greek philosophy?

Why is society so pronatalist?
Why is it seen as perfectly moral for a female to bring years of suffering and pain into this world? When a female decides to have a child, her motives are entirely selfish - there is no emotional attachment between a female and her ovum. She decides to have a child because it's what SHE wants. She doesn't give a single shit for the inevitable suffering that the child will have to go through during its lifetime. Life is primarily suffering. Always has been and always will be. The state of non-existence is always better than the state of existence, regardless of who you are in life. And yet women continue to shoot cuntspawn out of their cunts every second of every day. It's selfish as fuck and society sees it as a good thing. Why?
