The only thing /his/ cucks use is the "muh hide on your island" retort which isn't true, ww2 for example UK fought in north/east Africa, middle-east, Malta, Persia, Greece and Italy before d-day. Or the "couldn't get European clay" retort which is a load of bs, Germany, France, Austria etc all fought over little castles to try and conquer Europe and they all failed.

Heres your (you). I hope it makes you happy.
>>1447356
>/his/cuck; infuriated with his inability to find any arguments resorts to memes
>>1447341
Why did the British stop caring about their empire and let it all fall to shit?
What kind global superpower voluntarily surrenders all of its territory, resources and influence?
How accurate is this show?
Isn't one of the characters supposed to be all the way from China
>>1445382
Accurate? Nope.
>>1445384
I think that character is a slave I guess it's technically possible if highly unlikely for a Chinese person to end up in Europe through trading routes.
Post some historical pepes, and other anons have to accurately say the culture that it's from.

Someone explain this shit to me. I can't comprehend how anyone could advocate an absolute monarchy.
>>1449262
I thought this would be a King Crimson thread
>>1449262
I am by no means learned, but the idea of a person groomed their entire life to rule, who has been instilled with a sense of responsibility, appeals more to me than a council of greedy bumblefucks only in it for the cash or to spread their own ideology, completely ignoring the long-term effects of their actions.
>>1449285
I mean, I know it's not as black and white as that. But still.
What would technology in 2016 be like if there was no WW1 or WW2? Would jet engines or rockets ever be invented? Would large passenger aircraft exist? Would electronics develop without WW2?
>>1452803
We'd probably be at the level of about the 1970s.
>>1452803
I'd imagine technology in 2016 would be closer to that picture than what we actually have in 2016. WW2 was the reason the first rocket and computer were invented. Obviously the horse would still get completely replaced by the car and there would probably be large propeller passenger aircraft. The first jet plane was flown by the Nazis shortly before WW2 but without the race to develop better planes in WW1 and without the Nazis who only existed because of WW1 the jet plane may not be invented. I wouldn't compare the technology in this alternate 2016 to any real decade because some things might develop equally fast and other things might be at the level of the 1930s.
>>1452803
No World Wars means no helium embargo on Germany, which means no hydrogen fire on the Hindenburg, which means that zeppelins would not have fallen out of favor so quickly. Winged passenger aircraft would be seen as an inefficient luxury for those who want to travel at great speed, not the only safe form of air travel.
Why didn't the Japanese use shields? Like even the Ashigaru. Seems insane.
Japan stopped using shields heavily about the same time as Europe.

Are you after quantity or quality?
>>1444920
Absolutely not.
in terms of overall quantity you are kind of right depending on what armour you are regarding exactly however numbers alone do not represent the overall effectiveness of a nations armoured force.
if you where to ask: "what was the best tank" i would have to say a later derivative of the M4 Sherman. so in such a case the USA had the best tank.
Germany however had the best tank doctrine and deployed their tanks most effectively throughout the war until the gasoline shortages.
What are some surprising things you learned on /his/ where you used to believe the exact opposite?
I learned that:
>Rome produced nothing of value in science or art, and was also unstable and mismanaged
>Germany and England were French colonies
>the Vikings were shit warriors
>the Catholic Church not only never persecuted science, but is responsible for its extraordinary development in the West and for ending the Roman dark ages
>the Renaissance was a scientific dark age which interrupted the medieval scientific revolution, and all the common negative stereotypes about the Middle Ages, from witch burnings to poor hygiene, actually apply to the Renaissance (and to Protestants rather than Catholics)
>the Germans were clearly the bad guys in WW1, and the Versailles treaty wasn't too harsh but far too lenient
Meme picture not to be taken too seriously (but a little).
>>1442677
I see the joke you're trying to make but
>the Catholic Church not only never persecuted science, but is responsible for its extraordinary development in the West and for ending the Roman dark ages
>the Renaissance was a scientific dark age which interrupted the medieval scientific revolution, and all the common negative stereotypes about the Middle Ages, from witch burnings to poor hygiene, actually apply to the Renaissance (and to Protestants rather than Catholics)
>the Germans were clearly the bad guys in WW1, and the Versailles treaty wasn't too harsh but far too lenient
These are pretty mainstream academic positions
>>1442694
I don't know about academia, but they're definitely not popular positions. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of people believe the exact opposite.

[repost from/x/]
A thread to share the lesser known crimes and historical atrocities/odd events that lack publicity on a national/international scale like the Rape of Nanjing or maybe even the Donner Party.
I'll start.
>Peter Keller was a pants-on-the-head-prepper who made videos of his plans for 'the end' before murdering his wife and daughter and fleeing to his makeshift bunker in Kings County Washington
>He is still listed as only a suspect in the murder in most publications since he committed suicide after SWAT officers had reached his bunker.
> Remember this one time when Nepalese prince become mad and killed ten members of the royal family, including The King and Queen, by himself.

I would have thought the early human migratory routes out of Africa would have moved through Arabia, Indian sub-continent, Indo-China, Malaysia and surrounding islands before arriving in Australia.
So why don't the aborigines look more like other S-E Asians, especially Indonesians.
>>1450590
Did you know there is a period of history where Aboriginal Australians actually FORGOT how to make fire?
No wonder they were considered fauna for so long
>>1450601
I doubt that, the dumb asses literally burnt down all their forests.
Truly more ape than human
>>1450601
That's not true. Early British reports speak of them starting fires in Tasmania.
>>1450590
Southeast Asia was originally filled with people like this, arguably southern mainland China was as well.
Aboriginal Australian, Southern Indians, Southeast Asia and Melanesia all had "black" people. Everyone else are invaders. Not even memeing.
I just finished a thread called "Depressing food related memories from childhood" on /ck/ >>7903947
It's full of stories of blatant child abuse from mostly poor parents, many of them drug/alcohol addicts. There's also a couple of cases of middle-class sad stories too but they're milder. This thread got me thinking:
It's generally quite hard to remove kids from their parents unless there is completely concrete evidence of their abuse and even then, the life they face in foster care or the system isn't much better than what they had. This is also why many of them don't notify anyone of their abuse.
This has made me realise how "overrated" and bourgeois the idea of the nuclear family is. Why are we so obsessed with protecting the idea of the family unit, when it only works for the richer half of the population at best? Even in the case of middle and upper class families, I know many people who have been oppressed, abused or simply stunted by their parents and the claustrophobic environment they grew up in.
Why not switch to an alternative model? Tribes in the Amazon raise the children all together and so did the Kibbutzim. The children lived in a "society of their peers", going to school and living in the same quarters, more or less like being in summer camp constantly. They saw their parents in the evenings and were raised by matrons who were rotated from within the ranks of female kibbutzim. Is the nuclear model really the best we have?
>>1450113
Here's the thread, I fucked up the link

But families with two married parents perform better than any other kind.
Shit's measurable yo.
The lower you are on the socio-economic totem pole, the less likely you are to have that.
The real question is how we get poor people to raise their fucking kids right. I have a number of cruel, mean spirited ideas.

Wtf was their problem? And why are they so underrated? Usually people jizz themselves when they hear about mysterious shitwrecking raiders yet they are as mysterious as you can get, almost stomped Greece back to stone age and no one mentions them.

If you're interested in British middle-to-high-brow radio programming, "In Our Time" did a recent episode on the Bronze Age collapse discussing the Sea Peoples.

This is how boys in Classical Greece looked like, and it was perfectly a-ok until the Christians came along and decided it was a "sin" and one should instead do it with exclusively with their ugly wives.

Why were there so many serial killers in the 60's, 70's and 80's? Why do 76% of serial killers come from America?
>>1433745
America's got a much larger population than any other western country, as well as a good police force that allows them to catch them. Plenty come out of places like China as well, though it never hits our news. The one with the highest body count (around 138 confirmed) is from Colombia, and many have been from other countries in the region. Just doesn't ever hit our news.
Also, 60's, 70's and 80's were a sweet spot where TV was popular enough for them to get the attention they needed, but before police started to be able to more successfully control what the media said and what information they got their hands on in these cases. These days you start throwing around juicy details and the station's likely to get hit with an obstruction of justice suit.
Also worth noting is that heaps of those people listed as serial killers are doing it in gang violence. It's still more than 3 and as such is serial murder, but they're not typical serial killers.
I think Bundy is endlessly fascinating. Most serial killers lose their mystique once you figure out how they tick and the forces that shaped them, but Bundy just gets more interesting the deeper you go
