Why do people think hitler was democratically elected?
Because most people are only familiar with a very rushed simplified (and thus prone to mistakes) history.
>>1451236
please elaborate why do you think so he wasn't
>>1451266
He was literally appointed by Hindenburg
Hitler never won an election in his life

The elections had 99% voting for the ruling party. That seems to be a bit manipulated
Perhaps thinking about the nitty gritty can get an itty bit shitty.
It turns around though

Thoughts on Zinn and/or A People's History?
>>1450828
Shitty meme tier garbage.
Academically speaking, it's a total shit.
Politically speaking, it's basically the most anti-people history of the United States. It reduces the bulk of the American people to a group of inept pussies who keep getting tricked and intimidated by a tiny minority, against their own best interests. The only change possible, and the only change necessary, is for sufficiently just guardians to appear to guide the weak masses in what to believe and what to do.
It's as much an argument for the people being subject to the house of lords as anything else.
>>1450828
dude fuck le system everything u know is a lie xDDDDDDDD

Herodotus:
>"I traveled and inquired about the known world like no one else before me [who has survived through the ages] and try my best to list all the accounts and perspectives of these events to let you, the reader, to decide them, while also occasionally giving you my opinion of what likely happened and why."
Butthurt pro-Persians, Greekaboo Romans, anti-Western skeptics, and modern historians:
>"Herodotus--father of history? No! More like the father of LIES!"
Thuycdides:
>"I'm going to write about one particular regional conflict that I served in Office in for only the first few years of it, so therefor I practically witnessed all of it. Fuck what my sources are or trying to list alternative accounts, that's nonayabusiness, plebs; let me do that for you and trust me. Btw, the main event I wrote my histories on ain't even a single war, but two, but I'll push it as one huge connected one to make it sound more important. Also, all those speeches I wrote are all made up by what I assume those niggas really said. "
Butthurt pro-Persians, Greekaboo Romans, anti-Western skeptics, and modern historians:
>"Truly Thuycdides is the father of history, and champion of non-fiction -- unlike Herodotus!"

Why was not until recently that families in the most developed countries decide to either not have children or have below the replacenent level? Why are birth rates so incredibly low in the developed world other than in poor communities?
>inb4 CAPITALISM RUINED EVERYTHING BRO. Markets are more government regulated and the state of developed countries is larger than ever. Middle and upper class families don't seem to be having children but just a generation or two ago every family had 3-6 children
It's veniality and materialism.
People want to enjoy their self and their things more than they want to be saddled with raising kids.
It's actually pretty common in highly advanced, rich societies like ours.
Infanticide and abortion, due to a lack of prophylactic measures, were huge in Rome's apex
Because back in the day you had a farm or a "business" and you needed as much "free labor" as you could get.
That and child mortality was incredibly high, so having a bunch of kids is a good strategy.
>>inb4 CAPITALISM RUINED EVERYTHING BRO.
>Plz don't give me an answer that might make me feel uncomfortable.
Why would you expect most people to invest loadsamoney and thousands of hours of labor with almost zero hope of recapitalization?
What are some really good books on American history? I'm primarily interesting in philosophy/values of early America and economic history.
A Struggle for Power by Theodore Draper is a good read on the causes of the American Revolution. Not specifically on early philosophy/ economics per se, but does touch on those aspects as well as others in the overall theme.

Could it be argued that Judas Iscariot is out of all the apostles the most important one out of all of Christianity.
I'm not religious but I was discussing this with a friend about this today of how often Judas is shunned or widely disliked in the Christian Community.
I've made the argument that without Judas, Jesus would have never been betrayed and crucified, meaning that without Judas, Jesus could not have died and resurrected which in turn, salvation and forgiveness of our sins would've never occurred.
My friend says that Jesus needed someone to betray him in order to fufill the prophecy and that he knew Judas would do so, if judas was never in the picture Jesus would've known and found somebody who would also have led to his betrayal.
Thoughts on all of this.

>Could it be argued that Judas Iscariot is out of all the apostles the most important one out of all of Christianity.
It could, that doesn't mean that it should.
From a christian perspective, Jesus was/is God.
God didn't/doesn't need anything/anyone to do what he wants. Maximus the Confessor speculated that the Incarnation would have occurred regardless of the fall so as to bring man closer to union with God.
>>1450550
Look into the Gospel of Judas.

jesus knew he was going to be betrayed, it was preordained. the betrayer could have been anyone
So /his/, what are the characteristics and personality of Satan. I grew up Baptist (although I am not one), and I get the feeling he is more complex than what I read in the Bible. Is he good, bad, or something different entirely?

Go ask a Luciferian on /x/

I'm asking from an entirely historical perspective pertaining to documents and lore from old. I don't give a shit about the paranormal.

Since there is no original doctrine on "Satan" fully, you could see is as a seperation from God, ignorance to God, self indulgence, and eventually actions that lead to negative results.
In Sanskrit it would be "Adharma" and "Maya" or "Mara", and demonic forces that drive a person to meet their material ends without considering truth or enlightenment but rather gain over the expense of others.
why was he wrong?
What do you think?
He got convicted of rape by a jury of his peers. Why is this even a question?
Now, anon, that's a different question from how he was wrong.
Why he was wrong probably has something to do with
1. He was the pioneer of a new method.
2. He may not have been perfectly precise in his thinking.
3. His Catholicism lead him to weird places.
ITT: Kekworthy pseudo-history and historical conspiracy theories
Starting out with Fomeko's New Chronology: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Chronology_(Fomenko)
>The New Chronology is a fringe theory regarded by the academic community as pseudohistory, which argues that the conventional chronology of Middle Eastern and European history is fundamentally flawed, and that events attributed to the civilizations of the Roman Empire, Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt actually occurred during the Middle Ages, more than a thousand years later.
Chinese multi-regional hypothesis propaganda.

Chinese push propaganda the the Chinese people evolved separately to other people, denying that humans came from Africa (neanderthal and denisovan admixture too). I can't believe people buy it, especially with the earliest ancestral fossils found outside of Africa is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homo_erectus_georgicus
>The fossils are about 1.8 million years old
Why do philosophers like Schopenhauer and Nietzsche value solitude? Isn't it miserable, pathetic and unhealthy to be alone?
>>1450099
They liked to think, and solitude to the best way to get some real writing done.
some people find solace in themselves
>>1450099
Like many philosophers they mistook things they personally enjoyed as being inherently good or desirable and things they personally abhorred as evil.
