"It is your God given right to not believe in God"

That's probably Ivan Kramskoy's best painting. It's kind of a meme, but it really is evocative. His inner turmoil is palpable.

No, it's your human right to not have to believe whatever bullshit people believe wherever you live

Belief or disbelief is not a right. It just is.

So I know that Alexander of Macedon famously made strong use of his cavalry forces in a time when they weren't the primary focus of most or many armies. He had his elite Companions cavalry and they are often noted as the portion of his army held in the highest esteem by Alexander himself and, perhaps, the rest of his armies too.

Given that Alexander made such ample use of his cavalry and it would be a while before Europe embraced cavalry as a primary and integral part of their fighting forces (for instance, the Romans relying so heavly on infantry and their cavalry not being as honored or as large a part of their military as Centurions and such and the Gauls and other Celtic tribes of the Roman and later eras being made up almost exclusively of infantry, it seems) and considering he had such success in his battles, why did cavalry still not become a primary part of most armies in Europe for some time?

And what kind of weapons and tactics did Alexander's cavalry use? I've read that he made great use of hammer-and-anvil tactics with his cavalry being the hammer and infantry the anvil, but how were his cavalrymen armed and how did they fight otherwise? Did they charge with spears like later lancers and use the momentum and mass of their horses to break lines? Did they simply use their spears to stab at enemy infantry from horseback? Did they use smaller arms to slash at enemy foot soldiers while riding?

>why did cavalry still not become a primary part of most armies in Europe for some time?
Because Alexander attacked the east, and many do believe the rise and popularity of cataphracts in the east (which developed a lot later than people think) was due to the influence of alexanders cavalry. Before him, most Persian cavalry was simply horse archers, and it was only really the scythians who had cataphracts and they didnt have proper ones at this point.

alexanders cavalry used the Kontos, a very long two handed lance. For heavy cavalry they were lightly armoured, they've heavy for the way they were used and who they were compared against, they would not be considered heavy cavalry later on. They would have had a sword for back up, they didn't use shields. He liked to charge frontally in the center like at Gaugamela, its so insane it actually worked
>>
>>1435391
Did Alexander himself actually lead these charges as it is often told? Was he ever seriously injured as a result?

Modern English would sound like Frisian.

Without the Angevins/Plantagenets sticking their dick into France the French Dukes would have probably become more and more autonomous until France was either balkanised and/or subsumed into the >H >R >E
>>
>>1434412
The Feudal System and Britain's obsession with class will not exist.

Simply because the Anglo-Saxons were a community of equals (well, with Thanes n shiet) that lacked the Feudal systems of the continent which bound people to lands.

It might not even spell the end of William, let alone any larger effects. Without pursuit capability, it's unlikely that Williams force will be wiped out, and as long as he raids, he can bring in plunder to hire more mercenaries.

You'd need to specify in greater detail the scope of the victory.

So, how should we warn people in the far off future (10k years from now) to not fuck around with our nuclear or chemical waste?

Currently we use

>"This is not a place of honor. No esteemed deed is commemorated here. Nothing of value is buried here. This place is a message, and part of a system of messages. Pay attention. We are serious. Sending this message was significant for us. Ours was considered an important culture."

But it makes it sound like some there's some sort of Lovecraftian horror down there, which will make people explore the area

Alternate message

>This place is a message… and part of a system of messages… pay attention to it!
>Sending this message was important to us. We considered ourselves to be a powerful culture.
>This place is not a place of honor…no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here… nothing valued is here.
>What is here is dangerous and repulsive to us. This message is a warning about danger.
>The danger is in a particular location… it increases toward a center… the center of danger is here… of a particular size and shape, and below us.
>The danger is still present, in your time, as it was in ours.
>The danger is to the body, and it can kill.
>The form of the danger is an emanation of energy.
>The danger is unleashed only if you substantially disturb this place physically. This place is best shunned and left uninhabited.

Why are we not talking about religion? As islam is encrouching on western society, specifically muslims who are not ready or willing to lose their faith, why are we not trying to make religious arguments in favor of a peacful coexistence? As in why are we not talking about biblical and textual interpretation and looking at easy to digest arguments about how biblical or quranic texts can be interpreted in new ways?
I got to thinking about it as i was driving today and saw an arab girl who was wearing sluty clothing(by muslim standards of course) and thought about how i prefer this over a hijab because it means she has little chance of becoming a fundmanetalist.

It seems that a direct "for dummies" counter to religion is simply hedonism.
Shit like "ooh i csn eat pork" or "ooh i can drink alcohol without guilt" or "can sleep around" etc...
On the other hand muslim authority figures are fighting this by saying exactly that this is the alternative the west offers.

So shouldnt our goal be to make popular and discuss catchy ways of presenting religious texts, even if they include calls for aggression, in a new way that is integratable with more personal freedom while at the other hand think about possible deficencies in secular western society?
What can we, even as atheists, adopt from abrahamic texts, that we havent yet, so as to make religious texts a part of our modern lives and adopt them as ours again, as oppose to relegating them to the wrong sort of people.

so instead of shouting to religious extremists "there is no god" or how dumb they are, we can present our own versions that are palatable to us and can allow belivers to change their views without feeling they ar ebetraying their heritage.

Because coming up with different interpretations of the Quran is considered blasphemy and Muslims are not willing to debate their scriptures like Christians are.
Also liberals are unwilling to question their Islamic masters.
And even then, even if you could come up with a softer interpretation of Islam, it still wouldn't fit in with European Christian society

>Because coming up with different interpretations of the Quran is considered blasphemy and Muslims are not willing to debate their scriptures like Christians are.
Muslims never stop debating the Qur'an. Not that theres much to debate, it's quite a clear book.
>>
>>1447226
>Muslims never stop debating the Quran
This is true but this is different to if a Christian tried to find their own morality within it.
These debates are about choosing between one evil or another slightly different evil, because as you said, the book is quite clear

Free speech was necessary to the left when the Establishment was still conservative and they needed tools to defeat it.

Once they took control of the universities and schools in the 1960s, the left became the Establishment, at least in the cultural sphere, so now free speech can only hurt them. Hence "hate speech" define as anything leftists do not like make an apparition as a concept.

Those who own and run the utility services make stupendous fortunes by investing little and charging much. In Russia and India, oligarchs acquired state assets through firesales. In Mexico, Carlos Slim was granted control of almost all landline and mobile phone services and soon became the world’s richest man.
