Literally because of dysentry. Many English longbowmen went to battle without any pants on because they couldn't stop shitting.

So I'm taking early American history. How can I be edgy as fuck and convince everyone, my professor included that it would have been 100% better if the 13 colonies stayed with the crown and never revolted?

Call it the American Rebellion instead of the American Revolution, this is actually guaranteed to trigger liberals and conservatives alike.

abolished slavery before America, the so called "land of the free".

Recommended books!

What are your favorite books on American history? Doesn't seem to get much love around here, and there's too much popshit on amazon. Can be colonial, revolutionary, anything before ~1939.

Stuff on the French colonization of the Americas would be cool too.

Because "Existence hinges on my thinking about it and I can prove everything from first principles because I'm a logical god" is deeply appealing to adolescent boys and gets lots them into philosophy.

>His Imperial Royal Highness Prince Gharios El Chemor of Ghassan Al-Nu'Man VII. He is the heir of the Christian Ghassanid Kings of Pre-Islamic Arabia, as well as the Byzantine Empire through Nikephoros. In a simplestic explanation, they have one foot in the Middle-East, and one foot in Europe. They originate from South Arabia, and migrated to Southern Syria and founded a client kingdom of the Byzantine Emperor. Legend has it 100 Ghassanid soldiers took on the Persian Empire in a battle called Day of Halima and won. Later, the king at the time was asked by Muhammad to convert to Islam, which he took as a declaration of war. He subsequently lost his kingdom, and sought exile in Byzantium. They were among the elite. During the Ottoman Empire, they became Christian Sheiks in Mount Lebanon...

>They took the last name El-Chemor, and became a prestigious house among Lebanon’s nobility. They ruled Sheikdoms in a few cities of Lebanon, but refused to speak Arabic due to persecution brought on by the Islamic Conquests. Some Ghassanids migrated to Brazil, among many other Lebanon Christians, and have become prominient there as well. This leads to their present day history, where many successful and famous Arab Christians are said to be descended from the Ghassanids, such as Shakira, Selma Hayek, Carlos Slim, and many others. Today, their motives are neither political nor religious, but the promotion of Christians in the Middle East, and the preservation of peace in the area. The heir Prince Gharios is officially recognized by the United Nations, and has received several secular as well as religious recognitions, such as being knighted a member of the Order of Saint-Michael. He has held audience with the Pope several times, and is well known for his promotion of peace and tolerance in the Middle East, as well as a passion for Aikido. This is the link to the House of Ghassan; http://www.royalghassan.org/royal-family.html Note that Prince Gharios also has his own webpage.

(for Context' sake, let me state that my personal philosophies are in the evangelical christian vein, but not wholly).

>What does /his/ think about suicide?
Prior to the massive spread of christianity, suicide wasn't looked upon as evil, with it being acceptable among the greeks and romans to end their own lives/end lives on their own terms. Among asian cultures, I dont believe there is even a stigma at all, for example, the japanese have seppuku. I wager that the western thought complex that see suicide as "bad" is flawed.

>Secondary question-If I kill myself will I go to hell?
With regard to abrahamic faiths, the Decalogue states "thou shall not kill" (#6) but does that apply to the self?

thooughts?

I'm obviously disregarding the factors that would make one WANT to kill oneself, and focusing on the act itself; but i do think cause is just as important. for example,

If life is pointless, and one accepts that life is pointless, and one can't assign a purpose TO life, then the conclusion can be reached to kill yourself.

Or maybe one has depression of some sort.

Kierkegaard or Camus might disagree with the decision to kill the self, wagering that is an unacceptable solution, or a very simplistic and "easy way out" but if one reasons that life isn't going to improve and that there is no reason to exist or be alive, then is suicide NOT the most logical and reasonable conclusion?
>>
>>1639157
I hardly think killing yourself is the ultimate solution by any stretch of the imagination. Where did this notion that humans must serve some purpose larger than themselves come to be? Find a purpose, find a hobby, do something with your life that YOU want to do.

With respect to Abrahamic religions and the repercussions of suicide, I don't really know the specific answer, apart from the fact that it is discouraged.

The Taoists did appear profligate to the more worldly confucian scholars, kek.

Which is why Taoist cults are popularly associated with magicians and hermits.
>>
Taoism. Less apologetics for the Chinese state.
>>
I like both.. Taoism is more like a help to conceive the human body and the universe while confucianism provided us with a set of rules that help managing families or government.
I see truth in both of them and dontbthink of them as mutually exclusive.

there was never full colonization, just seaports with roads and railways to the mines and plantations

Because before this century the european not have the resources and the enough supremacy technology to do it. So, we have to know that some parts of Africa had been colonised before but nothinh in the deep land
