How can one empire be so absolutely gigantic and still be considered one of the lesser Great Powers? How do you succeed to such an extent while at the same time failing that hard?

1. What did you do after systematically ridding yourself of all spooks?

2. Why did the Romans become Christian? How could you do that? Was religion back then just socialising and getting drunk? They must have had fuck all to do.

3. Is religion these days just pious and / or pseudo intellectual posturing?

2. The man in charge said it was the right way.
People tend to believe those with power if they themselves do not have it. (insert monarch/dictator/regime here)
3. I see it as a way for people to feel good about themselves (via delusion) and show themselves to others with an image of "I care" and emotional, at least to their own eyes. Some people think of science as just too cold and rational.

In Greco-Roman religion, the afterlife was pretty shit. If you were just a regular person, who lived a fairly standard life like everyone else, then you just went to the Fields of Asphodel. They are just fields were souls wonder round not really doing anything or getting anything except when a loved one gives you an offering. Pretty boring, empty stuff.

You could only get to Elysium (A place where you get basically whatever your heart desires) if you lived a great and noble life, worthy of reward.

Whereas in Christianity, as long as you accept Jesus Christ as your lord and saviour, and live a """""pure and holy""""" life, then you basically get Elysium (or that's just what the missionaries told them).

It's fairly obvious why they switched when you think about it.

Country, nation, state, nation-state

What are the actual definitions and differences?

country is a land belonging to certain nation and state is authority ruling over certain land. when the state has authority over at least most of the country and that country alone it's a nation-state.

>Is Ulster Scots a real language?
no
>>
Didn't we have this thread a few days ago?

Anyway, the answer is no, it's a dialect of English. The orthography and a good chunk of the vocabulary is largely invented and has no relation to Scots as it was historically spoken in the north Ireland.

Scots itself is a language, as it diverged from English in the 900s and evolved independently of it. Ulster Scots is a conscious, artificial effort to try and create a language for the British community in Northern Ireland, who are starting to get a bit worried as the Irish language is getting more popular in both the Catholic and Protestant communities there.

I can notice some mistakes even from the image you posted. The past tense morpheme "-t" is just a debased form of the English "-ed", unrelated linguistically to the proper Scots "-it". And "vocabulary"? This was obviously done by someone who doesn't speak the dialect natively and was using some sort of dictionary or other resource. The Scots word for vocabulary that I've seen most commonly used Is "wuirdkist".

The Song Dynasty was the first modern state. They were the first to widely use paper currency and established a permanent standing navy. Social life during the Song was vibrant. Citizens gathered to view and trade precious artworks, the populace intermingled at public festivals and private clubs, and cities had lively entertainment quarters. The spread of literature and knowledge was enhanced by the rapid expansion of woodblock printing and the 11th-century invention of movable-type printing. Technology, science, philosophy, mathematics, and engineering flourished over the course of the Song. Philosophers such as Cheng Yi and Zhu Xi reinvigorated Confucianism with new commentary, infused with Buddhist ideals, and emphasized a new organization of classic texts that brought out the core doctrine of Neo-Confucianism. Although the institution of the civil service examinations had existed since the Sui dynasty, it became much more prominent in the Song period. The officials who gained power by succeeding in the exams became a leading factor in the shift from a military-aristocratic elite to a bureaucratic elite.

Then illiterate niggers came to rape and pillage. Let that be a lesson. Just because you are the most advanced society around doesn't mean hoards of illiterate faggots can't fuck it up.

Maybe if the Song didn't attack their Jin neighbors, illiterate faggots wouldn't have taken Jin and its resources, removing the buffer state between the two. And maybe if the Song didn't attack Mongol control to led Jin cities because they felt entitled to them, the horseniggers wouldn't have had a reason to rape Song to death

It is June 1944 and the Allies have successfully penetrated the last major fortification line of Axis in Italy
Controlling the entire North Africa, Corsica and Sardinia (and therefore the entire West Mediterranean) wouldnt it be easier to follow this approach?
>Push Axis north and out of Italy and then turn westwards to the French coast
>Land at Monpellie at the same time
>Push north clearing France
It would have been much easier than fighting their way through Hitlers Atlantic Wall and many lives would have been saved
Were they afraid that the Soviets would steamroll the Eastern Front occupying most of Europe?
Was the Overlord planning too far gone to ditch it?
Thoughts

They had promised Stalin to open up a western front. You seem to forget that even by the capitulation of Germany in 1945, there was still fighting going on in Germany. The alps are historically a dreadful place to break through, from any direction. It's a surefire way to sink billions of dollars worth of resources and hundreds of thousands of casualties into something that will yield relatively poor results in a long drawn out campaign.

Do you think he did the right thing kicking off a civil war?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I think he should have looked at Scipio and strived to instil a sense of honour to the glory of Rome in all soldiers and citizens alike and vow devotion above any general, sum of money or personal gain.
I also find it hard to believe he couldn't see/prevent himself being stabbed a hundred times on the senate floor.
Yourself OP?
>>
The republic was corrupt and the senate beyond saving.
>>
>>1642145
Then (as Scipio would have done I'm sure) do what was necessary to restore it to unparalleled virtues, and then stand down.
