Can we talk about the snowniggers a bit? Not the VIKINGR RAID LOL GET WRECKED BUTTFUCKED FAGGOTS LOL SUCKED but the majority of them who were farmers and craftsmen? I'd like to get some books on them and all I can ever really find is stuff on the Vikingr themselves. While interesting, I'm more interested in domestic life and that.
Any recommendations? Any discussion to be had about the Scandinavians?
The North did nothing wrong, the Southern North Sea empire had no right to secede
The Icelandic sagas sometimes hint a bit into the life of the people in the backround of the grand tales, for example Auðuns tale is about a farmer who bought a polar bear and traveled to the pope to show him. It shows some customs and looks into the life of the Norse
Keep in mind that most Viking seafarers were traders, not raiders.
They did for Northern Europe what the Italian merchant states did for Southern Europe.

">Us Christians dindu nuffin! We preserved the legacy of Antiquity n shiet".

>The anti-paganism policy of Constantine the Great evolved from the initial prohibition on the construction of new temples and the toleration of pagan sacrifices, to orders for the looting and the tearing down of the temples by the end of his reign.
>There were also frequent episodes of ordinary Christians destroying, pillaging, desecrating, andvandalizing many of the ancient pagan temples, tombs, groves, and monuments,
>Under the Constantian dynasty, pagans saw themselves increasingly marginalized: one court official, Libanius, petitioned Emperor Theodosius to stop the chaos that Christians were inflicting on the Empire with their destructive acts, only for "Saint" Ambrose to use his influence to encourage further suppression of paganism
>"Christians destroyed almost all political literature and threatened to cut off the hands of any copyist who dared to make new copies of the offending writings."
MacMullen, Ramsay (1997) Christianity & Paganism in the Fourth to Eighth Centuries, Yale University Press, p.4 quote
"Our sole copy of the sole work about political good sense by the person arguably best able to deliver it to us from classical antiquity, Cicero," writes Ramsay MacMullen, "was sponged out from the vellum to make room for the hundredth copy of Augustine's meditation on the psalms."
MacMullen, Ramsay (1997) "Christianity and Paganism in the Fourth to Eighth Centuries", Viking and Compass
>"Saint Augustine of Hippo exhorted his congregation in Carthage to smash allsymbols of paganism they could lay their hands on"
Christcucks will conveniently forget to remember that most libraries and centers of learning were located in temple complexes, often as shrines to Apollo or the Muses.
I don't really disagree with your point but just fyi Ramsay MacMullen has a very poor academic reputation. There's a reason none of his recent works were submitted for peer review.
>>1706412
>MacMullen, Ramsay has a very poor academic reputation
>"When MacMullen was honored for a lifetime of scholarly achievement at the 2001 annual meeting of the American Historical Association with the Award for Scholarly Distinction, the award citation called him "the greatest historian of the Roman Empire alive today."[1] With important new books published in 2006 and 2009 and 2011 at the ages of 78 and 81 and 83, he remains a powerful voice for scholarly accuracy and lucidity among students of the Roman world."
Angry Christcuck detected.

It's a shame we'll never get to read just how badly Julian the Apostate BTFO of Christianity.
Was the persecution of Christians in early Imperial Rome justified?

What is it about these islands that makes them so good at creating great works of theatre?
>lists three English people and an Irish person
I don't get it
>>1705590
I'm saying the British Isles have historically been a factory of great theatre, even compared to Greece, where the whole thing got started.
That's your Anglo-centric perspective factoring in though, as I can guarantee that albeit for Shakespeare (though only for having becoming the inescapable flag-bearer for theater), germans are very unlikely to be knowledgable about Beckett, or Gilbert and so on... They would tell you that Goethe is the world's second greatest playwright, as the french would with Racine.
That said,
>Beckett as your proof for England being the home of fantastic theatre writing
>litterally the guy that wrote his masterpiece in french, then translated it into English

What exactly happened to the Belarusian people during the German occupation? Was it worse than Soviet rule?
>>1705451
cant even imagine what sort of ignorant, oblivious place you must be coming from to ask such silly questions
>>1705451
They were basically rolled over by german tanks. A lot of belorussians hid in the woods and participated in guerilla warfare
>>1705480
in some former soviet republics like Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Ukraine there are people who to this day think that the Soviet tyranny was worse. I want to know if there are similar thoughts from Belorussians.
How aware of the holocaust was the average soldier on the front lines/the average german citizen?
If aware, did they really care or was it more of a "let's just look the other way."
I often see in media that Nazi Soldiers are portrayed as holding the belief they are superior, but I wonder if it's known whether or not large numbers of men were just fighting for their country without believing in all that.
I feel like maybe a large driving force behind recruitment was "revenge" for WW1's outcome?
>>1705231
there was a lot of anti jew propoganda and most germans were brainwashed to think that jews were less than people. Most wouldnt have known aabout the death camps only work camps.
>>1705231
Most fought for nationalism. Many simply enjoyed the army life - as in any country - with nationalism being secondary. Few fought for the supremacy of the white race.
By the outset of the war:
Everyone knew jews were being treated like second class citizens and of the racial laws that were being enacted.
Nobody knew of the holocaust or extermination camps, because that hadn't happened yet.
Lots of people knew about concentration or labour camps because believe it or not, that was kind of a thing in early 1900's european empire building.
By the end of the war, pretty much everyone knew that something was wrong with how the jews were treated. While there was no official information on it, soldiers on rotation to the front and to other forms of occupation duty would spread gossip at home. The gossip spread. Add to that the suppression of various ghettos and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that jews were being treated like vermin. But by then it was too late - you were already to caught up in this war business.
>>1705231
>I feel like maybe a large driving force behind recruitment was "revenge" for WW1's outcome?
quite likely. Butthurt is main fuel of modern nationalism
Was there any point in history when an Austro-German empire was possible? Maybe the brothers war?
What would the effect of such a political entity be on the european continent, and would France/UK/Russia intervene to stop it to prevent a powerful political hegemony over europe?
>>1704818
It happened twice. WWI and II
>>1704818
nope, german always wanted to include austria into german empire, but that would mean that all of the other nations of austrian empire (namely hungarians and czechs) would revolt
>>1704836
what, thats not true at all.
The hapsburgs loved being apart of the HRE germanosphere when they had hegemony, it wasn't until the rise of prussia that austrian dominance was questioned, checked, and austria in turn grew an identity separate from being a HRE substate into her own culture, austrian or southern german as opposed to german or north german.
I know armor evolved through the ages but did Knights from different European countries have different looks and type of armor or were they all wearing the same and most effective armor of their day?
>>1704773
There is no such thing as a "national" armor since Knights bought their own shit and that could be locally made or imports ordered from craftsmen in far-away lands.
Crusaders even wore bits of middle eastern armor.
They wore whatever they could afford/scavenge. And often times the armor was "outdated" because the cost of commissioning a new suit of armor is as expensive as buying a fancy sports car today.

Fall of Constantinople. Goes to show that none can stand against the might of a righteous army of God.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mallian_Campaign
>Alexander quickly became impatient at the pace of the siege, so he grabbed a ladder and went up it himself.[30] He was followed by only two soldiers. The rest of the soldiers, nervous about the safety of their king, crowded the ladders to get up so that they could protect him. There were too many of them, and the ladders collapsed under the weight. The Mallians realised who Alexander was, and focused their energies on him. Many of Alexander's men held out their arms and called for him to jump down to them.[31] The King, however, would not.[citation needed]
>Alexander leaped into the inner area of the citadel.[32] There, he killed the Mallians' leader.[33] But an arrow penetrated Alexander's lung, and he was severely wounded.[34] The Macedonians believed Alexander dead. After gaining entrance to the city, they planned to kill everyone in revenge.

How exactly is Christmas similar to Saturnalia besides heavier eating? It's the same time of year, but John Chrysostom gave a pretty sound argument for that.

Hey what are some good study resources for this?
Is there an annotated/study book of Mormon like there is for the bible?
>>1704296
bump
The Book of Mormon has already annotations on top of every chapter summarizing them, which were added later by Church ministers, but the writing is already straightforward as it is. You may also want to get Pearls of Great Price to go along with it.
