Why did Britbongs fight against Russia in the War of Crimea?

Haven't they just been helped by Russia against Napoleon?

If it wasn't for the fucking Britards we wouldn't have kebab right now.

Because continental politics in the early modern era was dominated by temporarily coalitions designed for immediate benefit, not long term alliances based on ideology
>>
>>2322405
Oh, gotcha senpai.

So there wasn't even an idea of "well, you got our back last time, so we are cool"?
>>
Well there are some 50 years ofpolitics between Napoleon and the Crimean War, which were highly complecated years with a lot of political maneuvering. Look where this world was 50 years ago. It was up to debate wether or not Germany was to be trusted and there was talk about alliances with Iran and radical Islam against communism. Politics change a lot in 50 years. In that time, everything in Europe was about the balance of power: No country should get to powerfull that it couldn't be defeated. If Russia would take Istanbul, which wasn't impossible at the time, it would mean Russia would get a lot of land, power and acces to the Mediterranean. This would
a)make Russia too powerfull
b)harm British and French interests in the Mediterranean
Britain and France didn't want this obviously, so they fought a war over it. To judge history so easily you forgo all the complexity of the time and the reasons for people's action, while judging with the knowledge now

What if the Entente attempted this in 1915 instead of Gallipoli? Could it have succeeded?

The Ottoman army was one of the worst in the war and they couldn't defeat them with a seaborn invasion. I doubt that they could defeat a far superior German army.
>>
I can't say I know much about it, but the supply lines for those landings would appear to be at enormous risk.
>>
The difficulties of any amphibious landing are huge. To attempt one right in the middle of Germany, where the Germans could quickly rush in an opposing force by railroad, would be almost laughable.

The year is 500. Huns are raiding and pillaging Europe.

Your mission is to stop them. The battlefield is a typical field in Europe. You have access to a limited amount of men and the best weapons and technology from 5th century Europe. How do you do it?

He didn't say anything about mongols, or even horse archers. Why are you inventing arguments and then trying to debunk the argument you invented?

What do you think about Richard Wagner? Why Hitler liked him so much?

ahahaha you and I would be the first to be shot if the sub 80 IQ great unwashed actually started a revolution. What the fuck can you do? erm.... shitpost on 4chan and receive handouts to study a history degree at some toilet university. You are a parasite. When the communists took over, fools like you were the first to be sent to labour camps, or forced to clean shit and piss. The underclass and scum you would be catapulting into power would kill you first and seize every shiny toy your parents bought you, you bloody fool.

You know I’m automatically attracted to means of production- I just start seizing them. It’s like a magnet. Just seize. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a bourgeois they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab them by the means of production. You can do anything.

Why isn't this more common nowadays?

No leader should be immune from the pain he expects his soldiers to face. Might make war more uncommon.

Why should or shouldn't I study history at college?
15 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Because economics
Because mathematics
Because philosophy
Because literally all of my history knowledge comes from some of these texts and I can still fucking rape people in history debates on this board
>>
Study it if you are willing to tryhard networking/et cetera, get into a high uni so you can teach at community college or something.

Doing just okay in history = you would be lucky to teach history at a detroit high school. May sound a little comfy, but it requires a phd, has a very low employment ratio (most history phds dont even teach history), and has bad pay.

If you love history but also want a solid career, i'd suggest something with better stats while doing /lit/ as a hobby. It dashes together theology, philosophy, history and anthropology, and it allows you to write once you git gud enough.

Likely founded in 997 bc, by Olav Trygvason, although there was likely people living in the area before that. Named Nidaros at first. Was originally the religious centre of Norway.
Has it's name because it's literally the home of "trondere".

[edit]
Winthrop was settled in 1630 by English Puritan colonists as Pullen Poynt (Pulling Point), so named because the tides made hard pulling for boatmen. The present town is named after John Winthrop (1587–1649), second governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and an English Puritan leader. On April 8, 1630, Winthrop departed from the Isle of Wight, England on the ship Arbella, arriving in Salem in June where he was met by John Endecott, the first governor of the colony. John Winthrop served as governor for twelve of the colony's first twenty years of existence. It was he who decided to base the colony at the Shawmut Peninsula, where he and other colonists founded what is now the City of Boston.

Let's make a small résumé of the blunders the US did in the middle east
Afghanistan:
>Be US during the cold war
>get butthurt about Russians invading Afghanistan
>start arming extremist guerrillas to fight them off
>years later, use those guerrillas to commit a terrorist attack on US soil
>use that as a pretext to invade Afghanistan
>it goes horribly wrong and you kill a ton of civilians, further empowering the afghani jihadis
Iraq:
>invade Iraq and kill Saddam, the only guy who had Iraq together and managed to tell islamic extremists to fuck off
>destabilize Iraq to no end
>fuel sectarian war and force Iran to make their own guerrillas, thus creating a clusterfuck
Libya:
>buttfuck libya by killing their leader and arming religious extremists
Syria
>start arming rebels and ISIS goons in syria, and we know what will happen next
Yemen:
>help Saudis distabilize the whole country and give them heavy arms which were used to bombard civilian areas like eden

>proceed to make a bullshit story about US ops killing bin laden and throwing his body in the sea and make propaganda movies about "WE WUZ LIBERATORZ OF THE MIDDLE EAST" like american sniper and other movies

Why do people have the audacity to say "all muslims are terrorists" when the US caused about 90% of this clusterfuck?

>>>years later, use those guerrillas to commit a terrorist attack on US soil
The rest of your post has some merit but tinfoil stuff like this and questioning the necessity of the afghan intervention really hurts your argument.
>>
>>2321108

There are a bunch of factual inaccuracies in this post, but we should probably start with the fact that neither Afghanistan nor Libya are in the Middle East.

I never read any Kissinger either, so I'll bump for interest.
>>
It's a very good book and a very comprehensive analysis of contemporary international politics. Kissinger is a very controversial figure, some scholars really dislike him - one professor once told me he is a "war criminal" but that Diplomacy is a good work and I couldn't agree more after reading it. But read about "world order" from other sources. A good IR textbook like The Globalization of World Politics or The Oxford Handbook of International Relations would be really enriching.
