I used to post stories about the Great Game, and I've been thinking about getting back into it now that I'm getting some more time on my hands. The reason being that despite some of the dumb typos I make, posting those stories helped out my writing a lot, even if it was just a factual recount of events. I have an absolute shit-ton of things I've picked up and learned about the subject, so I don't think that there will be a shortage of things any time soon. Problem is that I'm not sure how I should structure it.

I was thinking maybe a one thread per-week that was at most a 3-4 post story but I also don't want to unfairly flood /his/ with my shit either so I was wondering if I should just have one thread instead. I'm also not sure how popular they would be. When I posted them last time, people told me they were fun but there was very little criticism of me or just discussion about the events that had transpired. Posting threads like that is kind boring to a lot of people and it seems like it'd take the space of other content. There's also the fact that I may have overloaded people with all the crap I spew out about the Great Game that some people might find the subject a bit boring. Essentially, I just want to gauge interest about these threads, as in, if people actually want them or if I should just fuck off back to where I came from.

I will most likely give a straight account of the facts, though I'll probably throw my own opinion in at the end of each post. Thoughts about this?

Alright, but how would you suggest I structure it? One thread per week, or a single ongoing thread that has to be bumped but has all the information in one place?

What went wrong? It was a German great power just like the GE, so why did GE kick ass while AH stagnated and died?

Contrary to popular belief it seems that if the allies had accepted the peace from Karl the empire would have federated and survived.

It seems that the fragments really fought to the end and that even the slavs would have been happy to have a triparte kingdom and remain a great power with the Austrians and Hungarians united.

At the peace conference everyone but Italy thought they would keep AH together but then realized it was too late. Which made things hard because AH industrialized with empire in mind.

Vienna was a center of trade and commerce and had all the rail lines.

Bohemia had some factories but not enough farms.

Hungary had many farms but little industry.

Croatia had all the ports and maritime trade.

etc etc.

when they all declared independence there was no fair way to give each country the ability to work independently from the other.

Hitler asserts in mein kampf that Germans were the only people capable of actually ruling an empire and by giving the slavs power had thus hurt the administrative capabilities of the emprie and also just left the slavs wanting more power.

Its true that the administration in AH was big and full of waste. In the Slavic areas it political trouble makers were usually bribed with high paying beaurocratic jobs that were created just to get rid of political problems.

Personally I think if the allies had made peace it would have stayed together and for everyone's benefit to work against the Bolsheviks that would later destroy the area.

Italy blocked that action though because it wanted to grab as much land as possible.

ITT, we post historical misconceptions we had as a child:

>thought that George Washington was from Washington DC and that he chopped down one of the cherry trees that the Japanese gave to us
>also thought that the cherry trees in DC were peace gifts after WWII
>thought that when people died, their skin just instantly dissapated in seconds and they became skeletons immediately
>thought that Rome was still a real place because my friend's parents hired actors to pretend to be Roman legionnaires for his birthday and they told me they were from Rome
>thought that the Queen of England had the power to chop off peoples' heads, and that that was like her only job because of Alice in Wonderland

Yale has an awesome history Program over here in the states, so any Books published out of their name are bound to be legit. They also have a variety of textbooks you can find on amazon, a simple google search of Yale history text books should help you out.

The reason i say text books is because they are very general and tend to be more informative instead of bias.

Things to know about U.S History that will probably interest you.

>The Prohibition
>Civil War
>The Industrial Revolution and rise of immigration to the States
>Anything on the Western Frontier and of the "old west"

Some things you should take into consideration.

Depending on where you're from, especially if you're from the UK, you'll find topics on the Revolution to be probably a bit obscure from what you may know.

American Patriotism is stoopid!! Like even for Our greatest Historians over here, they are still biased towards America Being the best place ever. So any books you read about souly the American Revolution, or the U.S's greatest hits like WW2, War of 1812, American Development and all that stuff that has to do with America growing, it's gona sound like the U.S is the best.

If you want to take a break from reading, and watch some short movies, the History Channel is usually not a good place to start. Though entertaining, some of it is bs and sounds like America is just gloating again.

You'll find that A lot of the U.S History has been influenced y foreign nations, so where ever you're from I'm sure you'll feel proud at one point to read up on the History.

Unless you're Irish.

It was a combination. Lee basically GOAT, and nearly every general the Union threw at him was absolutely fucking retarded. McClellan especially.

>takes 20,000 casualties

Always feel bad for McClellan, People called him the Young Napoleon till the Civil War broke out. Thought he was gonna be a genius. Ended up choking and going down in history as a scared fuck up.

Would it be wise to say Keynes has Mises' view of a static, state set interest rate, but Fisher's view of a dynamically changing inverse relationship of marginal efficiency of capital and investment quantity?

How accurate is the Marxist interpretation of history? By that I mean the "feudalism -> capitalism -> socialism" line that people say all the time. I don't know if this is the main interpretation, but some of my communist friends have told me that a nation has and can only be successful if it goes from feudalism to capitalism and from capitalism to socialism. They say that there has never been and never will be a successful nation that goes from feudalism to socialism. They also say that there has and never been will a successful nation that goes backwards, as in from capitalism to feudalism, from socialism to capitalism, or from socialism to feudalism.

I guess what I'm looking for includes:
1. A successful feudalist nation that went straight to socialism or something other than capitalism and stayed successful.
2. A successful capitalist nation that went straight to feudalism or something other than socialism and stayed successful.
3. A successful socialist nation that went straight to capitalism/feudalism and stayed successful.
4. A successful capitalist nation that did not come straight from feudalism or a successful socialist nation that did not come straight from capitalism.

Those 4 examples seem to be the only examples of nations that would falsify that interpretation of history. However, I guess if a real example comes forth people will argue about whether or not it was "successful".

In my own mind I feel like interpretation of history is a clever way to dismiss the failings of socialism. However, that's just an intuition I have since I have not gone through history and seen if that interpretation checks out.

It's funny because true, Marxist socialism is something that exclusively happened in poor, backwards countries.
>>
>>2322605
I don't know if there's a single country that went from feudalism to socialism.

>inb4 dumdums saying "Russia"
Russian feudalism wasn't a thing for 60 years by the time revolution happened.
>>
>>2322605
The "marxist" interpretation of history is more of a stance taken by Marxist-Leninists.

Marx's theories are not deterministic, rather he was more focused on how the dynamics and dialectical nature of class struggle shapes and changes societies.
