Is war good for humanity?
no, but since it is the last resort, it tends to bring about the best in its participants
it isn't ideal but you have to wonder what humanity would end up like if no one was willing to escalate things to violence
>>2710009
No. Wars can be just, but never good. This is an important distinction to make.
Of the many scourges of humanity, if there were two I could rid of it would be War and Alcohol.
Name more of a burden as an ally other than Italy.

What caused contemporary Western societies fetishization of "science"?

Rejection of Christianity but still demanding something to believe in and keep them alive
Religion is human nature
The failure of medieval scholasticism to fully bring philosophy and theology together.

Gave us better medicine, food, habitat, transportation and communicative abilities.
Hello civilized anons.
Did we fuck up? Are primitive cultures happier than us? What was the point? Was Enkidu right? 5 thousand years later, amazing progress in technology, any progress in overall happiness?
inb4: go back to the forest.
But people everywhere.
>>2709927
yes
we are far better off than hunter gatherers in terms of material wealth, the ability to pursue pleasure, and in legal justice
the problem is that we can't efficiently curtail those in power without strong unrest as a prerequisite, so change toward an "optimal" societal structure is slow and frequently rolled back due to power hungry individuals.
>>2709927
>Are primitive cultures happier than us?
Probably.
>Did we fuck up?
Not as much as they did.
Would you wish to be them? Would you wish to spend your life in a forest hunting, fucking and hanging out? They don't see how shallow it is because they have no greater example: they've got no Beethoven, no Gauss, no Ghandi, no Pascal. The primitiveness of their means never showed them how great a man can become.
I don't pity them, but I don't wish to regress to that state: in this society I've managed to find things that I value more than sheer happiness and serenity.

>muh anarcho-hunters
If you live restrained like Cato did, civilised life is amazing every day
How did battles go from tens of thousands of people fighting in the ancient era up to the Roman empire, to battles of hundreds of men post migration period?
Did the Huns just annihilate Europes population so that there were no men left to fight?
>>2709881
Yes.
>>2709881
People dying and you hear them crying, can you practice what you preach and will you turn the other cheek
But seriously it's because you went from the Roman Empire to statelets, where everyone was involved in agriculture, where before you could sustain a population of tens of millions of urbanites
>>2709881
Because it takes tremendous amounts of organization to get tens of thousands of people together, and then keep them fed; you can get away with smaller armies just by plundering the local landscape, but if you have more people moving through, let alone staying there, than the local agriculture can support, you need to bring that food in from elsewhere, and that takes quite a bit of work.
After the collapse of civilized society in the region and the rise of Germanic dinduism, that level of organization wouldn't be found again for a long time.
Is it cruel to bring a child into the world if you aren't upper or upper middle class in a first world country? The chance that they will live a comfortable life not filled with ruinous, tedious work, and constant anxiety over simply putting food on the table is very small.
even people who are poor as fuck nowadays are able to lead much better lives than most people in human history lead

So what? Given the choice between being punched in the arm and punched in the balls, I'd still prefer neither.

Well you went full retard in two posts, not really that impressive for an OP but not bad.
Prove to me WWII wasn't the dumbest fucking war of all time
Protip: you can't

>USSR attacks finland, allies again do not declare war on them

Tri harder
do you even know what Logos is
>>2709757
It's both. The son is one with the father and the Holy Spirit. The whole point of the Trinity is that they're the same.
I must write a 3-5 page paper on a piece of media set before the year 1500, and critically analyze it. I need two sources to go along with it, one must be a "scholarly book." What should I write about, it is due next Friday so I think a movie would be my best bet. Can you guys recommend sources along with your media?

What "purpose" are you referring to?
Cant really see any purpose to such a ""country""
Was it really worth it?
Ultimately, no.
It's aim, to prevent Germany becoming the dominant economic & industrial power in Europe failed.

Can someone give me a brief history of Britain's isolationism from the 20th century to today, and british euroscepticism ?
Britain has never been 'isolationist'; completely the opposite.
The British have never, and still do not, consider themselves as European, preferring a global outlook.
Why? Hard to say. Being an island and a huge coastline:area ratio, make us natural traders, explorers, colonisers, etc.
Isolationist? Are you serious? The eternal Anglo meddles in all world affairs.
